Friday morning feel good stories

| May 16, 2014

Your stories this morning are brought to you by Chief Tango, the first is from Montana where a homeowner warned the invaders that they get shot and they didn’t listen;

vCharging documents allege Lira and Christopher James Michelotti forced their way into a house late Sunday, causing its six residents — including a 5-month-old baby — to retreat to the basement.

The homeowner warned that if the suspected burglars followed, he would shoot.

Court records say when Michelotti started down the basement stairs with a handgun, the homeowner shot him in the leg. Michelotti was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately available. He is expected to face charges in the break-in as well.

Police interviewed the man who shot Michelotti and released him, court records said.

The next story comes from Charlotte, NC;

A man on the 1100 block of Jordans Pond Lane told police he was outside around 9 p.m. when Darlanski Sherrill walked up with a gun.

He said Sherrill forced him into the houseand pistol-whipped him, but eventually he grabbed a gun and started shooting at Sherrill.

Sherrill shot back as he ran out of the house and jumped into his car.

Police said Don Antonio Morrison was driving the car.

Officers spotted the car moving erratically a short time later on W.T. Harris Boulevard.

They said Sherrill jumped out and later died at the hospital.

The last story comes from Texas;

Port Neches Chief Paul Lemoine says, “The homeowner surprised a would-be burglar or thief on his property and he kinda chased him around a little bit and he had armed himself with a pistol and he shot in the general direction of the intruder and the intruder left the area and he chased him across Merriman running towards Miller.”

I’d say number three was barely lucky getting away…Knowing that area fairly well myself, I’ll wager he eventually runs into the open, loving arms of Port Neches one night. Heh.

As always, I’m glad that the homeowners and their families are okay. The incident in Texas gives me pause though. Running around firing shots in the street is a good way to get charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The Montana story isn’t as feel good as we would like. This is happening more and more here. Up until about twenty years ago, no one here would lock their doors or their cars — they didn’t have to. Then folks moved here and brought their troubles with them, or family sent the relations here that were thugs to “get away from bad influences.” The reality is, they were plague infested: drugs, gangs, guns, violence. And now here we are, with our neighbors having to shoot intruders in their homes.

Does anybody wonder why we run around with a bumpersticker that reads: “WELCOME TO MONTANA. NOW GO HOME”?
