One shot-six kills

L115A3

Paul sends us a link to a story in the UK’s Telegraph about an unnamed British sniper who managed to take out a Taliban machinegunner who happened to be wearing a suicide vest and the resulting impact of his bullet took out the original target and five of his mates;

“The guy was wearing a vest. He was identified by the sniper moving down a tree line and coming up over a ditch,” said Lt Col Slack. “He had a shawl on. It rose up and the sniper saw he had a machine gun.

“They were in contact and he was moving to a firing position. The sniper engaged him and the guy exploded. There was a pause on the radio and the sniper said, ‘I think I’ve just shot a suicide bomber’. The rest of them were killed in the blast.”

It is understood the L/Cpl was using an L115A3 gun, the Army’s most powerful sniper weapon.

I guess that’s a good example of saving the military some money with conservation of ammo.

Earlier in the day, the same sniper had zeroed his weapon on another Taliban soldier at a range of 1,465 yards.

It’s not the troops who are losing the war, it’s the politicians who are failing the troops.

That’s my kind of Tuesday morning feel good story.

NHSparky

Yet this man is not trusted with a weapon back home. SMH.

The Other Whitey

I was thinking the same thing.

I would like to have seen the expression on the sniper’s face when his target exploded.

I admire the heck out of the snipers; my best is still only about 300 yards. :/

James in Gulf Breeze

Yeah.. who ever heard of secondary explosions from an Anti Personnel Sniper Shot?!?!?

GOD BLESS our Snipers and those of our Allies. Thanks to them, a lot more of us everyday types come home alive!!

Buddy of mine bought a rifle in that caliber. The longest shot we’ve made with it so far is 900 yards (ok, 897 yards to be precise). Why only 897 yards if it’s capable of farther? Because the range doesn’t have a target any farther out.

Hondo

That’s certainly what I’d call getting your “bang for the (five) bucks” . . . . (smile)

I hope he was field promoted after such masterful application of his trade.

Here’s the official description of the L115A3 rifle at the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence web site:

http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/23223.aspx

In May of 2010, a British sniper in Afghanistan, using the L115A3 made the longest kill ever, on record.

At that same web site, I also looked at their SA80 individual weapon, and was surprised to read:

“On its introduction, it proved so accurate that the Army marksmanship tests had to be redesigned.”

Pretty nifty stuff, huh?

Wonder how long before we get some poser claim this was him?

Hondo

Yeah, and he’ll probably use a monumentally dorkish screen name when he does – something like ReAlLyLoNgRaNgEsNiPeR 14. (smile)

Green Thumb

I have always wondered that.

How does Dumbass Whittenturd find the time (or why) to switch from capital to lower case when he engages in his nonsense?

It would seem to me that it is an exercise in futility.

But hey, it is what it is.

Dumbass leads the way…..not.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Now this story makes me very happy….what a nice ending…

I want to see the video.

I love it when a terrorists alternate plan comes together!

Ex-PH2

I know it’s not quite polite to say this, but… I feel like laughing and dancing over this story.

Me too

I have had the pleasure of shooting the .408 Cheytac, and for the 600 meters we shot this at, it is by far the easiest round to dope your wind and elevation with. This cartridge shoots flat.

Cost of the ammo is $136 per twenty rounds

Back Stone

That is why terrorists should not multi-task.
