Karzai supports Russia in Ukraine
The New York Times reports that Hamid Karzai, chief spokesman for the Taliban in Afghanistan, and president, has joined with Syria and Venezuela in supporting the Russian annexation of the Crimea.
Russia’s insistence that it is righting a historical wrong in retaking Crimea, which was ceded to Ukraine by Soviet authorities in 1954, resonates in Afghanistan. Here, many believe that the Pashtuns, the country’s largest ethnic group, were unjustly cut off from their brothers and sisters when Britain laid down a border to separate Afghanistan from imperial possessions in South Asia.
Yeah, that makes sense. Especially if Karzai ignores the fact that the Soviet Union also invaded his country, left a mess in their wake that was instumental in the rise of the Taliban who forced Karzai into exile. Having Venezuela and Syria in his his corner make him look like he’s grateful for the US has done for him, if not his country.
Karzai also suspects that the US was behind the murderous assault on the Serena Hotel in Kabul last week, according to Prensa Latina News;
President Hamid Karzai’s management denied that groups of the political, social and military movement Taliban and Haqqani network were behind the attack.
Governmental sources said that the modus operandi did not match that of Afghanistan’s main groups of armed opposition.
Yeah, he doesn’t come right out and blame the US, but just a few weeks ago, he did just that in regards to other incidents he blamed on “foreign intelligence agencies” from the Washington Post;
Karzai has formalized his suspicions with a list of dozens of attacks that he believes the U.S. government may have been involved in, according to one palace official. The list even includes the recent bomb and gun assault on a Lebanese restaurant in Kabul, one of the bloodiest acts targeting the international community in Afghanistan, the official said. The attack, which left 21 people dead, including three Americans, was almost universally attributed to the Taliban.
The Obama Administration should freeze his assets right now and see how badly we can really piss him off.
Thanks to Ohio for the link.

And we care what this lying, dimwit, terrorist thinks of world affairs why? He can’t even manage his own country. If I were Putin I would be saying, “Please Karzai, don’t try to help me here…it just makes me look worse.”
Yes freeze his assets, and make sure he does not get asylum anywhere when we leave. Which is SOON I hope.
Why is this not cross-posted under the ‘Shitbags’ category?
Not surprising but still quite annoying.
Treacherous swine.
Once our forces pull out, the only question for Karzai will be whether or not he can skip town fast enough to keep his neck intact.
Ya know what? I say we waste this ratfuck son of a bitch right now! Then we pull out and nuke the place from orbit! Game over, man! Game over!
The Other Whitey…”it’s the only way to be sure!”. Bravo Zulu
Actually all we have to do is cut all the funding and training the U.S. provides to/for his presidential security detail. Let him rely on his own Afghan military for his security. He claims that they are ready and that they don’t need the U.S. forces, let him prove it.
Question: So, just for grins, suppose that Mr. Karzai wants us to leave so the Russians will come in and … help … or something. There were two primary reasons that the Cold War ended. (1) Mr. Reagan had a country with a stronger economy and he simply outspent Mr. Gorbachev. Does everyone remember Star Wars? The Soviet economy collapsed, the government changed, and so on and so forth. (2) With a collapsing economy, the Soviet (Russian) people were exhausted by their sons returning (or not returning) home from Afghanistan. If Mr. Putin tries to go back into Afghanistan in any form, _I_ think that he will find an issue that his population feels strongly about — strongly enough to tell him, “Not only NYET, but HELL NYET!” Imagine Mr. Bush trying to take us back to Vietnam in 1989. Some of you may remember how poisonous that topic was – for some, it still is. All of this talk of Karzai / Putin footsie may have convinced Mr. Karzai but I don’t see Mr. Putin as a fool. He didn’t forget anything in Afghanistan and I don’t see him going back for it. His only national interest in Afghanistan is having the Americans gone. Once achieved, Mr. Karzai will receive a nice shiny Russian Air Brigade at Baghram and some money. The only Russians on the ground will provide security for the air base. So back to Mr. Karzai and the US. 1. Foot / mounted patrols only to protect our installations, no coordination with Afghan Police or Army. Return ROE to the Law of Land Warfare. 2. No Tac Air, nothing fast or slow, high or low, no spooky, no dustoff. If you don’t need us then well you don’t need us. 3. Shut off the intel feed. Keep flying drone missions for our security. Tell the locals that we love them but Mr. Karzai doesn’t want us there and he is the big chief and we will respect his wishes. If they don’t like it, take that up with Mr. Karzai. 4. Pack up our sh!t and… Read more »
Fuck him, give him a claymore and see if he can read what it says on the front!
Two words.
Out. . . . Yesterday.
I support Kharzai doing a HANO insertion(that would be high altitude no opening) over the Indian Ocean.
