Seven injured, 1 killed in Fort Bragg incident
The Raleigh News & Observer by way of the Stars & Stripes reports that eight members of the 18th Fires Brigade were injured, one of whom died, in an accident yesterday at Fort Bragg during a live-fire exercise;
Two of the wounded soldiers were seriously injured, and five suffered minor injuries, said Capt. Douglas Ray, a spokesman for the 82nd. Friday night, one remained at Womack Army Medical Center on post and one was in Duke University Medical Center.
The families of the soldiers have all been notified, but the Army has not released their names or described the nature of their injuries.
It’s at least the second live-fire incident in which troops were injured during training at Fort Bragg in three years.
No other details were released because the incident is under investigation. What is clear, though, is that training for war is as deadly as the war itself sometimes.

8. That is the crew on a M777 howitzer.
Will be interesting to see if that was the case.
Don’t really know what happened yet but I’m praying for them and their families.
Damn, I hate to see things like that happen, Prayers Out.
Terrible. I heard about a BMT trainee that died at Lackland yesterday too, circumstances unknown as yet.
The one when was sent to Duke Medical Center is a good friend of mine who I deployed with. He is stable but his injuries are pretty bad from what I’m hearing on Facebook. Please pray for all involved.
Details are very sketchy at this point, but any time there’s an incident that causes these kinds of casualties it’s not too hard to guess that the gun blew up or the round blew prematurely. I’ve known both to happen, and this is the second time it’s happened to someone I know.
It was a M777 crew according to the local news.
My son was accidentally shot at Ft. Bragg during a door breaching exercise with a 12 ga. frangible entry slug (I believe that’s the correct nomenclature).
I know exactly how those parents feel.
Excuse my manners…..my thoughts and prayers are with the families.
The Fisher House at Ft. Bragg is second to none if the families decide to stay.
Prayers out for all. Joe
@6…dang…I guessed that one right in #1 unfortunately
Sorry, I was meaning to confirm your hunch. A good one.
