Thursday morning feel good story
Tom sends us our feel good story for this morning, this time from Detroit where a Mom took up arms to defend her family with an evil, scary black gun from some folks who decided to do some shopping in her home.
The mother tells Action News she “didn’t have time to get scared.” When she heard the door to her home on Woodrow Wilson being kicked in, she immediately warned the three teenage intruders and then opened fire.
One of the teens dropped a handgun on his way out the door. He then tried to get back inside the house a second time, but was again met with gunfire. Once again, he took off and all three were arrested shortly after the incident by Detroit Police.
Recalling the panic she felt, the mom says “I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house. They said no you don’t so I shot off the first round. I wasn’t feeling anything at the moment, I got scared afterwards.”
It was caught on video (if the video doesn’t work, go to the link above);
Chief Tango sends us a feel good story from the DC suburb, Beltsville, MD;
Police say the owner of Lloyd’s Automotive told them a man forced his way into the business while the owner was inside and there was a confrontation. The owner then shot the suspect and called 911, according to police.
The suspect then fled from the store and got in his car. He crashed it at the intersection of Virginia Manor Road and Muirkirk Road, say police.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. Police say he is expected to survive.
Charges are pending against the suspect, say police. They are also exploring whether he is connected to other burglaries.

Why do the talking heads keep saying that she was “defending her children”? Is she not allowed to defend herself?
I notice that the mother had what looked to be a High Point carbine. Cheap as bread, thick as a brick, ugly as sin, but guaranteed to work first time, every time the trigger is pulled.
Now, let’s see the gun-grabbers go on a rant about disarming mothers who want to defend their families against thugs. Go ahead! I double dog dare ya!
Mom needs more range time, otherwise well done.
@2: Hey, the High Point carbine is supposed to be much better than their pistols, from everything I’ve read. The problem is that the news is out about them and the price has jumped up to show it (last one I saw at a gun show was going for $350!!). As for the carbine, the mag holds only 10 rounds, which should satisfy the gun grabbers, but it is black, so still scary. Maybe if they made them in pink?
She got real lucky.
Apparently the thugs were known to police which means they are most likely back on the street committing crimes already.
Three intruders crowded in a doorway and multiple shots fired…with nobody at room temperature? Two words…RANGE TIME!
Although I doubt being the gun safe, passive, genteel city Detroit is, there is probably not a range in the whole county for public use. After all when you’re living in Nirvana who needs guns, right?
The carbine may be ugly but it works. Great job. And what kind of dumbass would try to go back into a house that they just got shot from?
@7: That was what I mentioned to Jonn last night. It takes a special kind of stupid to get shot at, after breaking into the house, running out the door, dropping your pistol, picking it up and attempting to go back inside the house for another go, as if you were begging, or daring, her to shoot at you again.
The actual Hi-Point Carbine looks like something I used to play with as a kid. The Hi-Point 995 looks like a respectable little firearm. I might have to look into one of those.
As for the idiots from above, a reaping what you sow phrase comes to mind. It tastes good with my coffee.
@1 Because the story has to fit the proper pigeonhole, that’s why.
@6, Sparks, the ranges in Detroit are the streets. Of course, certain neighborhoods are so desolate now that you could fire in a 360 degree circle and not hit anything, building, person or tree. Maybe a burned-out stolen car or two.
@11 UpNorth…when you’re right…you’re right. Who needs a range when you could go out in the yard, empty a clip and nobody thinks anything except to maybe, bring in the dog and put out the cat.
@9- I have a 4595, and it is awesome. The trigger is shit. It rocks instead of pulls, much like a super soaker. The gun is heavy, and feels even cheaper than it looks. But I can put together awesome groups with it out to 100 yards. It also reliably eats everything I have put through it, from gold dot to thirty year old Carollco, with the exception of Federal Hydrashock. Don’t know if the bullet nose is too square or if it is a mag problem, but HST hangs on the feed ramp, getting some interesting FTF problems every few rounds. No biggie in my opinion, as gold dot is where its at for hollow point anyway.
Hi Point carbines are diesel tough, cheaper than the glass you mount on your other rifles, come with a no questions asked lifetime service contract and always fire when the trigger is… rocked. Great gun for leaving somewhere remote like at camp or in a house in Detroit, because it will always fire accurately when you need it to (HST problems might be exclusive to my gun or to the .45 chambering) and its cheap enough where you won’t give a damn if it gets scratched up or rusty.
