Veteran sentenced for stealing from veterans

| January 30, 2014

Glen sends us a link from Syracuse where a Vietnam veteran, Michael Haven, was sentenced to five years of probation for stealing almost $17,000 from the Vietnam Veterans of America Central New York Chapter 103, in Liverpool;

The Vietnam veteran was arrested on a grand larceny charge in September 2012 by state police.

Haven’s plea called for him to admit to a lesser grand larceny charge, in exchange for five years of probation and a promise that he repay the group.

Haven will pay what he can over the course of his probation, and the VVA’s insurance covered some of the loss, Van Doren said.

Haven pleaded guilty last Spring.

Steal nearly $17,000 from fellow vets, get . . . probation due to a plea-bargain and a guilty plea to a lesser charge. Wonderful. Just freaking wonderful. I wonder if he played the “weirded-out Vietnam vet suffering from PTSD” card at his trial?

I hope like hell that “lesser charge” was a felony, but I’m guessing it might not have been. If he managed to get away with only a misdemeanor conviction, lady justice is crying under her blindfold.

And I certainly hope the VVA chapter he ripped off isn’t holding their breath waiting for any reimbursement. I’m guessing they won’t see much, if any.

I hope he violates the terms and get his ass thrown in jail. Bullshit plea deals.

Contribut 20k to campaigns while a republican that exposed Obama face 7 years max and $500,000 bond.

Rule of law in this country is a joke.

Question?……So how do we know he’s a Vietnam Vet?

@4, 3/17, not a bad call, has anyone done an FOIA on him/it yet? Ialso hope he violates his probation and ends up being another one of Bubba & Thor’s “little piggies”!

@ #4: Well, 3/17, because he said so and he wouldn’t lie about such a thing, would he? Ya know, like, because he only lies about other things, right?

Well, that, and he is such an all around honorable guy.

Standard offer: if anyone can get or has this guy’s full name (first/middle/last), DOB, place of birth, and the service in which he served, I’ll be happy to file a FOIA and we can confirm/refute. SSN would be good too, but for the Vietnam period there’s no guarantee he’s listed under that (part of the Vietnam era used the old Serial Number instead).
