Sunday feel good story

| January 19, 2014

Todays’ story comes from Phoenix, AZ where a 77-year-old had been burglarized six times and this time was the last straw;

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old William Thomas Mackey.

Thompson said officers responded to the home around 3:20 a.m. where the 77-year-old resident told them someone had burglarized his home the day before and that he was awakened on Friday by an intruder.

He said he realized the intruder was not a family member and got a shotgun. He told police he feared for his life and fired one shot at the suspect who was struck and fell to the ground.

Thompson said Mackey was pronounced deceased at the scene. A pickup truck he drove to the scene was found in front of the residence, according to Thompson.

According to the Washington Times, the homeowner had been burglarized just the night before the shooting, too.

Slow Joe got one right at least…Buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun.

Well, half right, anyway. At least this guy had the presence of mind to use it properly.

Nice shootin’ Arizona !!!

One less puke to steal our money, stuff and taxes !!!

I hope he gets buried in a cardboard box !!! That would be fitting !!!

Good on him. But I have to ask-where is it that he lives that he has been burglarized six freakin’ times?

@4 According to the article, near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home off the 17. It’s not that far from Luke AFB. Closer to Glendale than it is what I’d consider Phoenix.

Phoenix itself has cleaned up a bit in the past ten years, believe it or not. A lot of the sketchy-looking residential areas downtown have been torn down and converted to commercial zoning. The few houses that remain have been turned into small businesses by the hipster and art-house types.

In my neighborhood it would not take 6 times being a victim to decide that it was time to quit being a victim. But then, since he survived them all, I defer to his judgment on exactly how to handle the situation.

Great outcome. Too bad it had to come to this.

43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road is probably about 17 miles from Luke. Like many areas here its fine during the day but not the best place to be at night. Its far from the worst though.

Phoenix is an L shaped City with an arm that runs at the base of the city of Glendale. Glendale is squished in between Phoenix and Peoria (Which is actually larger than Phoenix)

As far as that area there are a lot of “Houseless” scumbags that hang out on the corners with signs begging for money. I suppose if you collected up 32 of them you might be able to put together a full set of teeth. Though to be fair you find more of them about a mile or two east closer to I17.

Another turd has been removed from life’s litter box!!

Thanks. But still-six frikin’ times? Even in Chicago or Detroit, that has to be uncommonly bad. Maybe he was targeted disproportionately for being elderly since they didn’t figure he could defend himself. I dunno. Either way, good on him.

43d and Bethany is one of the hoods, and there are quite a few rough areas sprinkled through the Valley of the Sun. South Phoenix has some pretty rough areas, they cleaned up Van Buren east of 7th street, but that’s still a tough stretch. Some gangs just northwest of Paradise Vally also.

Fact is, it’s a great idea to carry anywhere in Phoenix. Arrowhead Mall is in a good area, but look at the previous post on the shoplifters with a gun at Sears. Bad guys are looking to commit crimes in the nicest areas since those homes have all the good stuff.
