Phony Shane Ladner’s real records
You probably remember Shane Ladner from a few weeks ago, the fellow who had claimed he had a Purple Heart which got him a spot in a white-tail hunt and then a seat on a float in a Veterans’ Day parade which collided with a train in Midland, TX and cost his wife her leg. And then our buddy, Randy Travis at an Atlanta news station discovered that he hadn’t really earned a Purple Heart. In fact, he’d been lying about his entire career which had him wounded in Operation Just Cause in Panama, but when that lie didn’t pan out, he was suddenly secretly wounded in Honduras. Well, it looks like he was indeed in Honduras according to the records that Mary sends us from the National Personnel Records Center;
But his records still show no Purple Heart;
And his FOIA says that he wasn’t in the Army in 1989 when Just Cause happened;
But we’re just being irresponsible because we’re not waiting for the records from a now-defunct hospital and from Fort Benning, GA (which is mentioned no where in his assignments, by the way).
It all looks quite a bit different from the DD214 that he’s been flashing around, doesn’t it?
And for some reason, this picture was in his FOIA. It’s not an official photo, but he’s certainly sporting more than what’s in his records, so it looks like he was a phony while he was still in the Guard;
I can see why he didn’t get deployed. KBR couldn’t generate enough nourishment for him to maintain that particular body type. I feel sorry for the belt trying to maintain it’s structural integrity. But he’s wearing at least 19 awards on his chest there, and records say he has seven. Another math problem that he couldn’t overcome like claiming he was in Panama while he was actually in high school.

What’s the saying “the wife is the last one to know”. Wonder if it applies here? I hope that the U.S. Attorney is looking into this along with the U. S. Attorney General. If it goes to local law enforcement they’ll pass over it. He was one of them. Forging the DD214, getting a Purple Heart license, lying on his employment application to get a job with the Police Department. Where does this phony live? His attorneys must be trying to cut him loose. This isn’t small time stuff anymore – it’s way beyond foolish now for anyone to support this F—head. The writings on the wall go get him.
Irish, I was a county sheriff the last 16 years of my 34 year law enforcement career. I guarantee I would fire a deputy that jacked up his credentials and lied upon an employment application. That is one of the easiest termination causes to prevail in. In my state of Washington, arbiters are fairly employee friendly, but on dishonesty not so much.
Cacti!
The DD214 is a federal misdemeanor. The tax fraud is a state misdemeanor because he probably won’t meet the threshold for a felony theft in Georgia. Depends on how long he’s had the PH tag and how much his ad valorem tax each year was. His real problem will be OCGA 16-10-1. That’s a felony. Ex-cop or not, the Cherokee DA won’t hesitate to prosecute it. His oath required honesty in both his personal and professional life.
Re: Giglio issues, it’s a thorny issue. The probable cause he swore to in every arrest is now questionable. That is good fuel for an appeal, or at least a hearing in all but the most rock solid cases.
The problems that will cause the DAs office alone is enough to motivate them to prosecute.
That’s my $.02.
#51 – I dont know Irish, his Lawyer was going along with his lies but has been quiet since. I dont think that lawyer was that gullible to fall for that Ft Benning lie or Panama hospital story. He may have realized what kind of mess he got himself into and backed off now.
But Hondo or Jonn on here reported earlier that Lawyer was ex military.
ABB: depending on how long it’s been since he filled out his last PH license plate application and certified all information thereon to be “true and correct”, Ladner may also have a problem with OCGA 16-10-71 – False swearing. As I read it, that’s also a felony.
Statute of limitations may save him on that one. But if he’s filled out one of those applications in the last 5 years or so . . . .
And yeah – IMO he’s probably now on the DA’s shit list for exactly the reason you described.
What a seabag with legs.
Lard ass.
What is that “x” shit below his Marksmanship Badge?
In the old day it was a bar or bars depending on how many qualification on systems. (rifle, grenade, etc.)
Curious.
@ 54, Hondo, you’re right. Missed that one.
@ 56, that’s two bars hanging over the brass button on the pocket. The center part is the button, I think.
Can we hear from his lawyer again? What’s up? Maybe Randy Travis can get another statement from that Texas attorney. . Lets see the medical from the hospital in Panama you requested. Still don’t understand why Panama especially since Ladner admitted he was never in Panama. This dude makes the most bizarre statements and his attorney backs them up. How far can he go? How long will all of the excuses keep coming until law enforcement really takes charge. What a joke! How many more days until we actual see what a hero he is?
Looks as if he was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal for OPERATION AMIGO JTF-BRAVO during the timeframe 13-19 May 1990, supposedly where 3,000 Contra Freedom Fighters were repatriated from Honduras to Nicaragua. JTF Bravo is currently located in Soto Cano Air Base (previously known as Palmerola Air Base) in Honduras.
Wife pointed out I need to update reading glasses prescription. Was incorrect in my statement in #60 that he was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal for OPERATION AMIGO. Sorry.
59 – Dont expect anything from his lawyer. Ladner probably fired him.
@62, I doubt it. Glasheen is going represent him in the lawsuit against the railroad. Glasheen might have canned him though for lying to him. Either way, he’ll need a criminal attorney in Georgia too.
Yeah that Attorney isnt equipped for this kind of thing. Probably had no clue what he was getting into. I think he either dropped the lawyer or Lawyer dropped him. Or he is in the midst of finding a new lawyer.
MrGameandShow formerly C2@64, unfortunately, the world’s greatest litigant is no longer with us. I miss you Lionel Hutz.
@58.
Usually you remove the button.
This is getting juicier every day, I can’t wait to read about what else they’re finding out about that roly-poly snot-spined douchenozzle!!!
@66, cool. I’ve never worn dress blues; I’m not familiar with them. It is a bit goofy looking.
I am a police officer investigating the case on shane, I would like to talk to anyone who has information 678-898-7146 Thanks Jamie
So according to the Hats Off to Heroes site(the folks’ he duped into giving him a free hunting trip), Aside from his Panama fable, he also claimed service in Africa and Guantanimo. I’ve seen other posts that refer to him admitting he lied about being in Somolia, so I would assume is the Africa part he is talking about. But have we verified that he was ever a guard at GTMO? He also claims his brother was the first person he saw when he woke up in the hospital following his “battle”. Much like the guy who stepped down as president of KWVA, can we pull his brother’s records to see if that matches up?
Oops, here’s the link to that page:
http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2012/nov/14/hunt-for-heroes/
Okay, I’m answering my own question here. In his bogus biography he claims his brother visited him in the Panamanian hospital following his bogus firefight in Panama City. He stated his brother was part of the 5th Infantry Division. The 5th ID was in country for Just Cause, so that story would have been plausible had he been injured in Just Cause. But he had to admit that story was bogus because it was shown he was still in High School. So he’s now claiming he was injured a year later in a secret drug-war mission, and THAT is how he got a Purple Heart and ended up in a Panamanian hospital. But what about his brother’s visit? Well according to documented history, the 5th ID left Panama in January 1990 and returned to Ft. Polk. So Ladner claims he was told to make up the fake Panama story to cover up his secret-squirrel mission. Okay….maybe plausible. But why would he bring his brother into the mix. There is no way his brother was back in Central America a year later if he was assigned to 5th ID, as Shane claims. So what is the “classified” reason to make up a story about his brother visiting him in the hospital? Why would he tell that story…hmmmm…..maybe…maybe because…..maybe because he’s a LIAR who got carried away with his lies, and never realized his lies would end up costing his wife her leg! Is there any way we can get a comment from Chuck Ladner to verfity the hospital visit story?
@71 and 72, I went back and read his bio on your link. I missed the brother thing, but I was in awe that mere moments after the second plane hit, Shane’s phone was ringing to recall him to active duty. Huh? Moments?? FOS
@72 – Avg NCO, one lie breeds another, and the liar feeds on it. There’s nothing there but air.
“Although Ladner is a decorated veteran — earning an Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Humanitarian Service Medal, an Armed Forces Reserve Medal with a mobilization device, an Overseas Service Medal (for his Honduras mission), an Expert Badge with grenade and pistol bars, and a sharpshooter badge with an auto-rifle bar”….
This makes one “Decorated”?
Anyways, latest update on Ladner. His attorney still thinks HIS records are legit and the military’s aren’t. I have to say, the Ledger News did some great digging here.
http://www.ledgernews.com/news/top_stories/records-probe-shows-no-purple-heart/article_a3ee45dc-c236-11e2-8691-0019bb30f31a.html
EdUSMCleg: technically, yes. The Army Achievement Medal is a personal decoration vice a service medal. From AR 600-8-22:
Decoration
Distinctively designed mark of honor denoting heroism or meritorious/outstanding service/achievement for individuals and units.
a. Individual U.S. Army decorations are the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldier’s Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.
b. U.S. unit decorations are the Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Army Superior Unit Award.
Receiving any type of personal decoration would thus make him a “decorated veteran”.
@75/76. Okay, he’s decorated. So are cupcakes and Christmas trees.
@Hondo: Guess my idea of decorated and the actual definition are off lol. Thanks for schooling me again.
However, my intention was simply to draw attention to the article and what his lawyer had to say. They are grasping at straws.
What makes this even sadder is that, when you read the FOIA response, I would have respected someone with that kind of service. He should have been proud for what he was and wore the medals he really did earn with pride. Instead, he turned into a liar and a forger. How pathetic.
@77 With your permission, I am SOOOO stealing that line! 🙂
EdUSMCleg: no offense intended, amigo. Many in the military don’t grasp the distinction between decorations and good conduct/service medals. Decorations mean “ya done good” to one degree or another (or to be blunt in the case of the PH, “right place, wrong time”). Good conduct and service medals mean you did your job somewhere; the where just varies. Ditto for ribbons w/o medals.
Yeah, with an AAM Ladner qualifies. For whatever that’s worth.
This guy should fess up now, because he is getting in deeper & deeper each day. He is a disgrace to the uniform & to his poor wife, who is a victim, because of his lies. Ladner would be wise to come clean and make a deal. Though, from the looks of this OBVIOUS & pathetic lie, this guy doesn’t know how to tell the truth.
@81. Why ask? Do what everyone else here does. If you can use it, take it! I haven’t found the right spot to use Pygmy Puncher’s “Oh. I just threw up a little” but it’s in my pocket.
I went over the latest news story and found this quote from his lawyer:
“Ladner’s attorney said one thing he found interesting was there was no DD-214 for when Ladner separated from active duty in 1997, only from his discharge in 2004.”
If you look at the above FOIA response…Ladner wouldn’t have a DD-214 from 1997 because he was separated from active duty in 1994! You don’t get DD-214s for inactive reserve and guard time on drill status, which exactly explains why there would be no DD-214. The attorney is grasping at straws trying to create a smokescreen of altered and incomplete records; a claim most military phonies make when they’re exposed like this.
His lawyer HAS to grab at straws. He probably sees his fees from the railroad lawsuit going up in smoke.
@76 Hondo, what about the Joint Meritorious Unit Award? Is that considered a decoration?
@ 75, thanks for the link. That article summed it up. Looks like he’s got some criminal problems coming.
@87: Yes. As per Section III of AR 600-8-22, the JMUA is a U.S. Unit Decoration.
Joe Williams: bingo – as are the other Army unit decorations (PUC, VUA, MUA, and ASUA).
For completeness: though not listed above, the Defense medals – e.g., the Defense Distinguished Service, Defense Superior Service, Defense Meritorious Service, Joint Service Commendation, and Joint Service Achievement Medals – are also considered personal decorations.
Hondo, check the IP on #88??? That wasn’t me Joe
Joe – yeah, looks like we got another accidental screen name duplication (2 commenters using the same screen name without intent to impersonate). We’ve seen that a few times. Usually sorts itself out reasonably quickly.
Thank You Hondo Joe
It’s Memorial Day weekend and I want to thank all of the individuals who have served our Country! Thank you for your service in protecting our Country. Shane Ladner -hang your head in shame. Although you did serve for a year you ruined it with your lies. Don’t put on your costume with your 2 stolen Purple Hearts and prance around as a wounded warrior with your American flag cane and drive around with your purple heart license plate. Real men earn their Purple Hearts and metals.
The 1 year anniversary of the Show of Support – Hunt for Heroes parade debacle will be November 15th! Will they do it again? Will they invite a poser back to the scene of the crime – still claiming he’s been wronged. He stopped claiming 2 Purple Hearts and now only claims one, but the government can’t find the documentation and neither can he. Will he be celebrated as a combat hero who never saw combat – only talked about it? Will he bring his wife along with her one leg and paraded her around like a freak in the circus? Or will he finally confess he lied and take what is coming to him? Inquiring minds want to know…….
Loser organization. Especially after they “rehonored” that sack of shit.
I was actually talking about him with my wife about 20 minutes before I found this thread posted on my facebook wall. Weird. I get the impression that the Cherokee County District Attorney has no intention of indicting him. I bet they are waiting for it to all go away and people forget.
According to the Cherokee County Superior Court calendar his case is still involved in motions. It’s been over a year and no indictment? That’s way too long. Should’ve been in front of a grand jury last year.
Very disappointing.
The DD214 he has is a fake. I can see a few errors he got a disability severance which means his disability is interfering with his job and therefore is discharged and will not be subject to a federal recall.
