NYC doesn’t want to be rescued
In a link sent to us by Country Singer to our buddy JammieWearingFool, folks from the National Guard who have resting up between shifts helping in the recovery of the city torn apart by Hurricane Sandy are being evicted from their armory to make room for Victoria’s Secret crew members preparing for a show later this week;
About 300 uniformed personnel have been bunking down at the armory at various times since Sandy hit.
But their numbers will be reduced to 60 by Wednesday for the event, which is featuring Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
Last night, about 150 of the personnel were crammed into a space meant for 50 as Victora’s Secret workers moved in equipment and set up temporary dressing rooms.
A massive transformer generator was being brought in for the show, and a huge Sony video board was hauled to the site.
So, you have New Jersey turning away non-union power crews, Nanny Bloomberg turning away National Guard members because they touched guns once, and now this. And, oh, yeah, they had to apply political pressure to Bloomberg to get the NYC Marathon cancelled – and those generators are still standing idle from the last reports I’ve read.
It sounds to me like they have leadership problems up that way that can only be remedied at the ballot box.

At the start the unions in NJ were not wanting non-unions help. They are still being “bullied” by the union workers and given the shit job details from what I’ve been told.
They could easily be fixed at the ballot box, but NYC keeps picking retards to run their city.

Besides, the union issue supposedly went away when Big Sis suspended the Jones Act for the duration of the emergency. (That was last week, after the initial stops in NJ by the union thugs. No, I do not have a cite for that. I was sitting in the dark at the time, listening to the transister radio – CBS news.)
I left Jersey back in 98 when I enlisted the first time and never looked back.
The North East elects retards and now they are paying the price. I find it very hard to have much sympathy in this case.
@1 – Snopes is wrong. Christie and the union goon tried to come back and say it wasn’t true, but the guys on the ground were told that they had to join the union or go home.

Oh, and a big part of the gasoline problem is that people aren’t allowed to pump their own gas in NJ and the stations can’t raise their prices to hire more workers.
Disaster recovery works far more efficiently if the government would just get out of the way.
@12 Well, that doesn’t make Snopes wrong – it makes the person who told the crew that they had to be union members wrong. Christie and the utility companies have come out and said that any help is welcome, union or not.
There will always be idiot union leaders, but in situations like this common sense typically prevails.

UNIONS IN HURRICANE-RAVAGED AREAS TURN AWAY NON-UNION ASSISTANCE
In a two-page Oct. 29 contract, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 1049 demanded union dues, pay hikes and benefit contributions from Florida electric utilities before its workers would be permitted to help reconnect power to Long Island communities. The demand came as Hurricane Sandy was bearing down on the Northeastern United States, stranding tens of millions without electricity.
The “Letter of Assent,” which The Daily Caller obtained from the Florida Municipal Electric Association, demanded 11 separate financial commitments from municipal power companies and electrical cooperatives in the Sunshine State. The agreement, for any utility that decided to sign it, would have been in force from Oct. 29 to Nov. 29.
Apparently the union dropped these demands on November 1… three days after Barry Moline, executive director of the Florida Municipal Electric Association, lodged a complaint with a national trade group. Moline confirmed that people in the storm-ravaged area suffered because of this delay…
So does anyone really think these crews from right-to-work states are burning up gas and overtime, driving expensive equipment to New York and back, just so they can make up nasty stories about union thuggery? It’s especially tough to buy that after seeing documentary evidence of the IBEW’s demands.

@20 I don’t think anyone is making up stories. I’m saying there’s a difference between official policy (which is they’ll take any help they can get) and what the unions try to pull (thievery, misery and intimidation).
I hope we see suits filed against the unions by people who were impacted because they turned away good, qualified help. These idiots are a miserable blight on mankind.

@24, So we can’t make fun of the AF either? I don’t think I have seen anyone on here downplaying the Guard casualties. If memory serves me the only time I have really seen anyone get nasty is a couple of Marines a while back. Besides that we all rib each others branch all in good fun. Grow some thicker skin.
