Another bullet tax proposal

| October 18, 2012

Jerry920 sends us a link to an article about yet another municipality which thinks that a bullet tax is a good idea. This time it’s Chicago;

Preckwinkle’s office estimates the tax will generate about $1 million a year, money that would be used for various county services, including medical care for gunshot victims. Law enforcement officials would not have to pay the tax, but the office said it would apply to 40 federally licensed gun dealers in the county.

Yeah, it’ll generate a million bucks, unless gun owners and bullet purchasers drive a few miles in any direction and buy their bullets outside of Cook County. Dingus.

“We think that’s an appropriate thing to do, especially in the light of the gun violence we struggle to deal with in our criminal justice system and our public health system,” she told a local newspaper editorial board this week, according to a transcript of the meeting provided by her office. “The legal gun shops in suburban Cook County are a conduit for crimes in Chicago. There’s no way around it.”

Why don’t you just ban legal gun shops instead of burdening them with more bureaucratic BS? You know what else is a “conduit for crimes”? Mothers. After all, they give birth to people who might someday commit a crime, maybe you should tax babies. That might bring in even more revenue – well unless people start having their babies in another county. Dingus.

Preckwinkle, eh? Hey, Toni – tell your cousin Bullwinkle I said, “Hi!”

Too bad he’s the smart one in your family.

Oh….. my….. goooooodness!!! You mean to tell me that the Chicago gangbangers, before they plan a drive-by, head out to the suburban gun shop for ammo for their Mac-10s? Why, I’ll bet they even charge it on their AMEX card, the one with their real name on it. Right…

Just when you think you’ve seen the limit of stupid, something like this comes out.

ACtually, Tony’s done her best to clean up the mess left behind by her predecessor, Todd Stroger, who looked and sounded like Steve Urkel but wasn’t even close to as smart as Urkel. She cut a lot of wasteful spending — think, “down a black hole”.

But this does make her look downright silly, because the people (criminals) who have the most bullets aren’t going to pay any kind of tax on them. Are they, now?

No. I don’t think so.

Make bullets more expensive, and we will have less ammo to train with. With less ammo to train with, we’re less accurate and, by extension, less safe. Yeah… sounds about like Chicago logic.

Thank God I live in Arizona.

What is this, a national day celebrating stupid? From Chicago to Martinsburg, and all points in between, it’s stpid, stupid, and stupid. This might be the day the monitor takes one. Nothing fancy, just a few +P rounds from a snubnose .38

Yeah and they buy their crack at CVS.

Jonn … you are on to something. Tax the babies of non-tax paying citizens. The tax burden could be paid off by the parent non-tax paying citizen working for their Food Stamps … wait … that won’t satify the new definition of WORK. Never mind!

Whitey_wingnut

Being that I’m living in NJ, I always here this come up. I laugh and say the same thing. It is only putting a burden on law abiding citizens, criminals don’t follow laws and will continue to.

f Chicago really wanted to clean up crime, they’d start a bribery of public offcial tax.

Flagwaver

You know, if they make bullets too expensive, then the bangers will simply shoot the clerk and rob the store of their guns AND bullets. Won’t that make the streets safer?

National Stupid Day! I like that! More beer! Let’s celebrate.

This is a trial balloon, a gateway-drug bit of legislation ginned up by Obama lackeys in Cook County/Chicago. I’ll bet Mayor Bloomberg and his new super PAC (mmmmm…..Citizen’s United might NOT be such a great deal……) either already have their hand in this or are eying it with envy and anticipation. This is the long, patient, implacable subversion of the 2nd Amendment. No laughing matter. These people know what their doing.

Socialist Republik of Chikago pupulation is thinning – now at 1910 estimates. More and more high earners and businesses fleeing the off the charts corruption, violence, high taxes, unions, excessive regulations…Even Obama from recent reports doesn’t plan to settle down in Chikago after his Presidency – he knows as well as anybody 2nd city is a basketcase.

Clearly Chicago is not interested in ended the violence and bloodshed, but would rather capitalize on it. Even if you’re too lazy to leave the county to buy your guns and ammo, how does $25/gun or .25/round deter anyone from killing anyone? I don’t care how much extra money they claim will end up into resources combating the violence. They’ll just squander the “extra revenue” just like they do to other revenues. If they want the violence to end, they need to empower the law-abiding citizens. Based on their comments though, it seems as though those who are following the law are the real criminals in their minds.

@14, right. It’s on track to becoming another Detroit, where even the cops are warning people to stay out.

I for one, am all for this. I also think there should be a “domestic violence” tax on all malt liquor sales as well…. Zing! 😉

@ 17 …. BAM!

UpNorth

@17, don’t forget the brown paper bag tax. Or, as it will be known, the malt liquor container tax.

@14. No Chicago for obama when gets the boot. I hear he’s all ready put down some bucks on a doublewide hut in Kenya.
