Lara Logan: there is a major lie being propagated…
Lara Logan the South African journalist working for CBS who was famously sexually assaulted in Egypt last summer during their “Arab Spring” spoke to Better Government Association annual luncheon in Chicago on Tuesday. According to Tiffany Gabbay in the Business Insider Logan wasn’t pulling her journalistic punches;
She explained that the Taliban, al Qaeda and its proxies haven’t gone away and are in fact re-energized and coming back in force. Logan also informed the crowd that a “lie” is being propagated by the American government.
“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated…” Logan announced. The lie is that the U.S. military has tamed the Taliban.
“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan began. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,“ who claim ”they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban.”
“It’s such nonsense!”
Yeah, well, when the whole world sees that our only strategy is a rush for the exits, what’s to deter the darker forces from being the same bad actors they were before the war?
Logan went on to say that people have been duped into believing that the threat of radical Islam is merely a thing of the past, saying:
“You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”
Well, that’s what you get when the electorate hears what they want to hear. It’s back to the complacency of pre-9-11 days.
According to the Sun Times, Logan hopes America will “exact revenge and let the world know that the United States will not be attacked on its own soil. That its ambassadors will not be murdered, and that the United States will not stand by and do nothing about it.”
Sorry, Lara, I just don’t see it happening.

Hey, I know what we can do with that aging nuclear arsenal that everyone says is too costly to upgrade and maintain….
CBS is screwed. It can’t fire her, that’s for sure and yet, there she is, actually speaking some truth. Notwithstanding Obama’s assurances that things are better, that the Arab Spring is good, that OBL is dead, she’s saying they all still hate us. Yipes.
@1: Especially the stuff that has “Best if used by” stamped on it…
“You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”
Yep.
Good for her. I sure wish Lara Logan and Jake Tapper were the debate moderators, real journalists instead of Democratic Party spoke-mouths
Good on her. She is a “been there and done that” kind of reporter. She willing goes places many would never even muster up the courage to say “maybe”. She has gotten a bad rap at times because she is not only a decent reporter, but good looking too. Her personal life is not the news. That is a shame. Bring it on Ms. Logaon … deal up your style of reporting, I am listening!
Good for her for speaking the truth.
Especially from a personal point of view, unlike many both in and out of the ranks.
The distance between Lara Logan and the WH is the roundtrip from here to the moon.
“Exact Revenge”
Indeed, if only there were the required intestinal fortitude for such action. The players in DC these days are more likely to “Offer Appeasements/Apologies” than revenge.
VOV, exactly, Neville Chamberlain is alive and well and inhabiting Foggy Bottom and the White House.
The problem that has plagued armies throughout the centuries in that part of the world, and more recently the Soviets and now us, is that the border is only a line on a piece of paper to these people. When we came in there in 2001, they just moved across the borders to safe havens in areas we wouldn’t go. Just like the NVA and VC travelling along trails outside of Vietnam’s borders (Ho Chi Minh trail is just the main one, there were others). Sure, we’re sending in the drones, but how effective will it be to the overall strategery if we can’t follow up with ground forces?
Some have said that this war is this generation’s Vietnam. In some ways it is, because the leadership still doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to do what is necessary to win. (to the trolls, don’t start in with the whole “what’s your definition of victory” crap, because I have written it many, many times on this website, so if you want to know, go back and read it)
The one thing I found odd in that interview with GEN Allen on Sunday was his saying that the Army had never run into IEDs before. Now, I do not know what his history is or when he went into the Army, but if he doesn’t know, or is not aware, that the VietCong were notorious for homemade claymore mines on the trails and roadside boobytraps, made more dangerous because they were so easily disguised by foliage and dead leaves on the trails.
They hid the doors to their tunnel system the same way, just big enough for one person to slide in and pull the ‘door’ across the opening over his head. Ask any tunnel rat how dangerous it was to go into the tunnel system to try to rout out Charlie. I knew a tunnel rat. He didn’t want to discuss it, just said it was really bad.
A lot of people were killed and maimed by those homemade weapons in Vietnam, so I have some issues with a four-star general saying the Army has never run into IEDs before Afghanistan.
Or maybe it’s just changing the name from homemade mine to IED.
Hope is NOT a Strategy!…
Many have expressed concern that the current Presidential campaign has been devoid of National Security/Foreign Policy issues, myself included. I’ve said very little about Romney, because he has previously said very little about National Defense. I’v…
