I Like It…YMMV

| July 31, 2012

I’ve dealt with Code Pink, and that crowd. I’ve been spit at and called names, but this story raises the bar.

Members of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church showed up to picket at a Seattle-area military base last week, but were confronted with an unusual counter-protest: dozens of people dressed as zombies.

Eight members of the church, known for frequently picketing military funerals and other events as a protest against the progression of gay rights, found themselves confronted with the counter-protest while picketing outside of the Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Friday. The playful counter-protest was launched by Spanaway, Wash., resident Melissa Neace, whospread the word of her idea on Facebook.

Jonn is as frightened of Zombies as I am of clowns.  This event seems somewhere in between?

WBC tweeted a few times about that yesterday. Today of course they are back to their usual nonsense as if nothing happened.

Gay Zombie Clowns are especially frightening.

PintoNag

I wish I’d been there to see that!

I think I’m gonna drop by Chick-fil-a for supper. Maybe then I’ll hit the “gay” Denny’s on 7th St for some blueberry pie and finally hit the Desert Rose lesbian bar, on 7th Ave, for a drink. All this before I go home to get a good night’s sleep.

OWB

With you on this one, Zero. Imaginative responses like this are much better than playing the game their way.

Maggie Goff

Wow, Yat Yas, is 7th St *still* the gay Denny’s? 😉

malclave

I liked the San Diego Comic Con counter protest a couple of years ago. I don’t remember a lot of the signs, but one that I do recall seeing pictures of was “God Hates Jedi”.

Yat Yas 1833

@ 6 Maggie Goff, yes it is. Not as flamboyant as it was but still gay. You from around here?

ANCCPTLucas

Wow. We have people from my hometown here. Yes, it still is. And I’m not too sure where there’s a Chick-fil-a in the Central corridor area, if you know of one, Let me know. I’ll hit it up.
Stay out of the heat, friends, and watch for the dust.

Jabatam

Hey…zombies love soldiers!

Jacobite

Dang, I’ve eaten at that Denny’s, I never knew, lololol.

ANCCPT

By the way peeps, Dust storm incoming, might want to park it for a while.
Or, if you prefer the technical term, we’re about to get slapped with another dirty ‘Haboob’. 🙂

UpNorth

Does every city with more than one Denny’s have a gay Denny’s? Learn something new every day.
Now, if only Chick would build in Grand Rapids.

Yat Yas 1833

Jacobite, it happened after Helsing’s, at 16th St & McDowell closed. It’s a late night thing, mostly. The Desert Rose has been there for years and is a blast to party at.

Maybe we need to have a Phoenix area reunion!?

B Woodman

I don’t care who you are, that’s funny. Poke fun at the WBC assholes, pop their balloon.

B Woodman

Amend that. . . that’s too funny.

Smorgasbord

One time when they protested at Arlington National Cemetery, I was one of them on the opposite side of them on the drive coming in to the cemetery. There were several bikers there, and parked the cycles with the exhost pointing towards the protesters. Each time they started blaring on their loudspeakers, the cyclists woudl rev up their engines. Eventually, they quit, and it was a quieter protest. Hurray for Harlies!

Twist

That is quite clever.

PintoNag

They showed up at the local Catholic church, and the priest finally got annoyed and started ringing the bells. Fifteen bells, the largest weighing in at about 1 1/2 tons. Nobody could hear anything but the bells. WBC got fed up and left. It was great! 🙂

ANCCPT

I was at WRAMC when Code Pink showed up. The counter protesters were there with massive American Flags, and boomboxes with patriotic music getting in front of them. It was great. I just remember looking at those fools and thinking ‘Really? Who even thinks it’s remotely OK to protest at a hospital???”
My personal favorite in Central area is the George and Dragon, Central, N of Indian School. That place is king for the World Cup.

Yat Yas 1833

@ 20 ANCCPT, if you’ve watched “the Cup” at George & Dragon we’ve probably splashed beer on each other!? Growing up on the ‘Westside’, the first “ball” game I played was soccer starting at about age sixish. I still drop by, when I can, to catch Premier League matches. Not crazy about the dark beer but love the “bangers & mash”, “shepherd’s pie” and “cornish pastie”!!!
