Bank of America hates guns
Now, I don’t like Bank of America anyway. A few years back, they started offering checking accounts to illegal immigrants who didn’t have ID that other banks require people to have to prove who they are so they can conduct their business. Yet, when I had a tax refund check from the DC government written on BofA, it took me three visits to the bank to get the check cashed and they ended up fingerprinting me and my wife, just to cash a friggen check. So they’ve been on my shit list.
But, anyway, Kelly D McMillan, the director of operations at the McMillan Group International writes on McMillan Group’s Facebook page the following encounter with BofA’s Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking;
He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.
At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possible save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business.”
“That is correct” he says.
I replied “That is okay, we will move our accounts as soon as possible. We can find a 2nd Amendment friendly bank that will be glad to have our business. You won’t mind if I tell the NRA, SCI and everyone one I know that BofA is not firearms industry friendly?”
“You have to do what you must” he said.
“So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?”
Mr Fox confirmed that it was. At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing left for him to say.
Frankly Opinionated writes to tell us that he verified that conversation and climate at Bank of America. The Bank of America hates the Second Amendment and guns – you know, the things the that keep us all from going into the BofA and taking their money away from them. I think it’s time that the Bank of America change their name to Bank of Liberalism or Bank of Anybody Except Americans. It’s obvious to me that they don’t really care about the America in their name, so they should change it to something more befitting their politics.
They fingerprint real Americans to prove their identity, while allowing non-Americans to bank with them with no proof of their identity, and they don’t want to do business with legitimate and authentic American businesses. So if there is anyone left out there still doing business with BofA, you might want to consider doing business with an authentic American bank in your neighborhood, rather than these thugs.

Which reminds me…once I know my Direct Deposit has shifted over to the credit union account I opened last weekend I need to sever all ties with my current bank who finds it necessary to charge anyone whose balance goes below $500 a monthly fee of $14 for checking. It ain’t just BofA who sucks.
They need to change it back to Bank of Italy.
I have an excellent account at a local bank. It’s been in business since the Civil War, and it’s a pleasure to work with them. I can go right to the manager’s door and knock, and she’ll tell me to “come on in”. It also helps that she’s a solid conservative, but I digress.
I had to have a talk with her recently, however, because I’m going to be switching over to USAA for all my banking needs, or at least most of them. USAA will give me free checking, AND will refund all my ATM fees to me each month. Plus, they offer all forms of insurance, mortgages, car loans, etc. I already got my renter’s insurance from them because of their very reasonable rates. Plus, they help sponsor the MilBlog conference each month.
My soon-to-be-ex wife still banks there, but she’s a registered Democrat anyway, so what the hell. There’s no way I’d ever bank there. The staff at my local branch are all members of the county Democrat committee, (seriously) and they let you know it, so I just steer clear of the place all together.
I’ve known BofA was a Bunch of Assholes since at least since 1988. They were the only real option on Camp Pendleton at the time. As soon as I could, I closed my accounts and switched to a credit union. Getting my last dollars out of them was an excrutiating experience
@3 – I’ve had USAA since 1995 and have never looked back.
I have long heard of USAA banking but have yet to see one in any town that I live in. I did a lot of trucking for them in the 90’s hauling into their Colorado Springs center. Can anyone let me know if they have branches in Florida, and if not, how one does banking with them. I am using Wells Fargo and satisfied, and can walk into my local branch where they recognize me by name.
@6 – I strangely have a USAA ATM in my small town…but I’m not actually aware of any branch offices anywhere. I bank online anyway, and USAA offers everything I need in that department.
@#4- Roger that, Stacy! Had huge amounts of fun with BoA in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Finally got rid of them though and the bank I switched used to be locally owned, then it went to being big time…
USAA is great. However, they only have and NEED one branch and it’s HQ is the San Antonio. Everything you need to do is done over the phone, online, or on your smartphone. I had them for 13 yrs and have never had a bad thing to say.
I have used a Credit Union since moving. I find it simply amazing that the tellers know me by first name and usually have my account (a seven digit number) all pulled up on the screen by the time I get to the counter. Not to mention, free checking, no fees unless I dip below $0, and I get all my ATM fees returned. Oh, and shared banking. I can go to any Credit Union in the U.S. and have access to my account.
Take that, Mr. Potter!
Ah, an online bank. But how would one make daily/near daily cash deposits there? I guess I am just too damned old to be able to comprehend how to use this sort of service.
Thanks #7, #9
@FO – If you have a scanner….USAA has Deposit@home….where you can scan your checks and make instant deposits.
Bank of America is big enough to be threatened by legislation at the national level. What we should be doing is encouraging the proliferation of small banks, so that bad decisions by any individual bank can be penalized by the market, instead of bailed out by Congress.
HH6 and I bailed on BoA just before Christmas last year. What a hassle! Reading all this just reinforces the very negative opinion we’ve had growing for years wrt BoA.
#13 Valerie: I formerly was of the opinion that big was good for efficiency reasons, but starting many years ago I began to realize that the opposite was true. Government, banks, business, they all need to slim down – a lot.
Thanks #12
I can see that, and could even mail checks, but doing a mostly cash business and still needing to deposit a bit of the cash, for recurring debts; guess this is not for me.
thanks y’all for the guidance.
It’s really, really sad. I have a very long and good history with the BoA credit card. Top drawer service. Excellent in every regard. But, not sure you can trust a group that has been taken over by idiots like this, so the nearly 40-year relationship must finally come to an end.
(Does Hallmark have a card for this kind of break up??)
Damn Ted you beat me to it.
The only encounters I have had with BOA had. Have been bad.
BOA Bend Over A******
One more thing about USAA that will help if you’re not comfortable with local branches. They are partnered with the UPS store for deposit services and a few other in-person branch type things.
Well, USAA does have branches of sorts. There are two offices in Killeen, TX that reach back to San Antonio. Of course, for a real sticky issue that I had, they put me on a video teleconference with San Antonio to solve it.
Do all my banking with the local Credit Union, take care of all my insurance needs through USAA.
I quit banking with BoA immediately when my wife and I split 7 years ago, they suck.
I have two account one with a local credit union and USAA for my two year old. What pissed me off about the bail outs was that banks like BoA could have been busted up and sold off to smaller regional banks, but nope they were “too big too fail”. That just reinforced their ability to have shitty business practices and if they become insolvent they can be bailed out.
It is funny when you go to a bank and compare their services to a Credit Unions…
USAA opened centers in San Diego and (I believe) Pentagon City. My main accounts are with them, have a small secondary account at the local credit union for those pesky cash transactions. I deposit checks to USAA with my iPhone, which works well…and with immediate funds availability.
@11 Hey, FO: might want to check into Navy Federal Credit Union http://www.nfcu.org They are a part of the Coop Network, which is owned by credit unions, and there are lots of Coop ATMs where you can make cash deposits at no charge. Info about the Network is at https://www.navyfederal.org/branches-atms/co-op-network-atms.php
I’ve been with NFCU since 1979 and I can’t recommend them highly enough! When I was on active duty and needed a signature loan to get me through a divorce and some really tough times, they came through quickly for me. I’ve continued to use them through several deployments, one overseas PCS tour, one tour to the Gulf, numerous PCS moves, and several moves after retiring. I send my retirement pay there and I’ve never had a lick ‘o trouble. And when I lose my ATM card (usually by leaving the damn thing in the machine cuz I get in a hurry and drive off without it), I get one within a few days of calling them and fessing up.
They rate a BZ in my book.
The fact that they’re big doesn’t seem to detract a bit from the quality service that they provide.
As several have already said, I have two accounts. I have a bank account with First Command out of Texas, where I have direct deposit of my paycheck and DFAS retirement. I use it for most of my bills paying and checks writing. And have NO complaints so far.
And then I have a local CU account, where I do the cash depositing, savings, loans, and credit card.
It works for me.
BOA is really stepping on theirs this time. I know that several people with extensive mailing lists are spdreading the story and urging local buswinesses to cease accepting BOA credit/debit cards. And some businesses are doing so.
Even worse for BOA is the timing, this is the season when corporations send out their annual reports and ask the shareholders to reelect corporate officers and approve executive compensation, and similar matters. Many shareholders may choose to show their annoyance by voting NO.
I have had USAA for 26 years. They rock. They even assigned a facilitator to me & the ex to separate our accounts during our divorce. I maintain a local account at the credit union. I keep $5 in a savings account and that’s all I need to do to have full rights to their services. I had an acct with M&I and they jacked me for almost $50 in fees when they moved everyone over to different “levels” of accts for “convenience.” I went nuclear in their lobby. Frankly Opinionated-check out your local community credit unions for cash transactions. USAA immediately credits your acct with transfers, so I do cash at the credit union, then get online & transfer to USAA. Works PERFECTLY
The wife and I have an account at a local bank. They know both of us, and still let me in to the branch. No fee checking, no minimum balances on checking or savings, no ATM fees.
I got a quote from USAA, they would have ended up costing us about $220 a year more for auto insurance than our present carrier. And, being a small town agent, they know us, by name.
You know, if truth be known, all of this is much like interviewing ten witness’s to an accident or homicide….None are ever able to tell you what happened.
[…] This Ain’t Hell comes this news you can use: Kelly D McMillan, the director of operations at the McMillan Group […]
I just saw a commercial on a DC sation sation for Bank Of America. They were listing all of the companies they are proud to be affliated with. One was the Washington Redskins (says something about their judgment if they are proud of that association), the other is Casa De Maryland. For the uninformed, “CASA’s vision is for strong, economically and ethnically diverse communities in which all people – especially women, low-income people, and workers – can participate fully benefit, regardless of their immigration status.” To translate that in common English, they get money taxpayer money from the state of Maryland to raise all kinds of hell when someone proposes some type of legislation to prevent illegal immagration in the state. They are very vocal advocates for children of illegal immigrants to be granted in state tuition at universities and colleges, and every time an illegal immigrant is arrested for a crime, they raise a big stink in the press. I have no issue with immigrants. I do have a problem with illegal immigrants. Juts my two pesos.
