Europol chief predicts new era of terrorism in Europe
The Associated Press reports that Europol chief Rob Wainwright is warning about a new wave of decentralized terror acts in Europe.
Combating individuals acting in apparent isolation, he said, will take smarter measures in monitoring the Internet, better intelligence and international cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

“We have one law for war, one law for peace, but we don’t have a law for the current situation,” said Alain Chouet, a former intelligence director at France’s DGSE spy agency.
“If we stopped (Merah) three weeks ago, what would people have said? ‘Why are you stopping him? What did he do?'”
Yeah, see that’s problem with Europe, a problem they’re going to need to fix. There are too many touchy-feely types who are more willing to sympathize with jihadists than they are to protect themselves. Well, that and none of them are armed.
That’s the same problem that places like New York, Maryland, DC and California will have. At least in most of the US someone attempting a drive-by like Mohamed Merah perpetrated in France, might attract some return fire. Since reading Tom Clancy’s “Locked On”, I even carry my bullet launcher in the shopping malls and avoid states where I can’t carry. No, I’m not paranoid, just cautious.

I’m having a hard time feeling sorry for Europe. We were the example of what was coming, starting in 2001. They’ve had eleven years to get their heads wrapped around the situation, while the jihadists focused on us. I’ve also had serious problems with the Europeans saying that we did something to deserve the attacks we suffered. So… who are they going to blame, now that they are being attacked?
The worst part is, the damned Europeans have their heads so far up there own asses that thousands will be killed and yet they’ll still sympathize with and rationalize haji’s actions. Poor saps. I almost feel bad for them.

I don’t go to malls here, very often, because they have signs that say “weapons are banned on these premises”. So, I don’t go there.
Jonn,
The article is battlefield prep for imposing some very serious measures that will further degrade Europeans’ civil rights, if not sweep them away completely. To combat a decentralized threat, you need a persistant, invasive intelligence gathering and targeting apparatus. Given the internet, that means Euro police agencies will have to penetrate the American sphere.
Europe today, America tomorrow.
