“Gunny” Lauve update
I’m sure you remember the story of “Gunny” Lauve from when I first mentioned him and then when TSO posted about the American Legion’s investigation of the phony. Well, apparently, the National Personnel Records Center can’t find a record of him ever serving;
The word is that he actually did serve for a few weeks at boot camp and then WWII ended so they let him go home. But if that’s true, it seems that there would be a record of that. We’re checking alternate sources.

Did this guy (A) Tell his family that he was going to put this parade of lies out to the public and ask them to keep quiet, or
(B) Look em in the eye and lie like a penny in a parking lot with no regard for their pain?
The hell with respect for his age today, he didn’t start this “today”, but long ago.
Lyin’ bastard.
Christ, what a mess. I feel sorry for his family.
I think that it might have started off small, back in the day, and then grew larger as he got older.
Just like my dad told me; “there aren’t any cooks or supply clerks standing at the Vietnam Memorial, they are all infantry, just ask them, they’ll tell you”.
Yeah, but in WWII, there were a lot of Navy cooks and supply clerks lost when their ships when down. This guy didn’t even get that far. The USS Cole lost 17, two of whom were cooks.
This guy was born too soon to pretend he was a Navy SEAL.
What a crying shame! If this isn’t a mess, it’ll do until the mess gets here…dayum!
Looks like the American Legion Post in Wanatchee has scrubbed their website and the Gunny is missing.
If he had served for even a few weeks it seems he would have been issued a service number, and could be tracked by that. If the records center cannot come up with anything, the likelihood is that this scumfuck never did a day of active service.
To COB6, We have not scrubbed our web site and George is not missing. I have a copy of his seperation papers. It lists a service number of 582 83 23 spaced like that. His rank is listed as Apprentice Seaman. His discharge is listed as “Under Honorable Conditions”. He was in USN for 2 months and 1 day according to the document I got from him. He entered on 7/12/1945 and left service 9/10/1945. His place of entry is listed as NRS Houston Texas, and place of seperation as NAVTRACEN San Diego, Calif. I do not know if this info would help Natonal Personnel Records Center locate him. Our Post is dealing with this matter and George has said he will except any punishment issued to him. We will not post the outcome on this matter as I do not believe it is Legion Policy to go public concerning discipline of any member. If George decides to go public then that is his business. I have also stated my position on this on the Burn Pit site. I know alot of people would like to hear what has been done but Post 10 will not issue any statement as to what happens. Some people would agree and some would disagree, which would only serve to cause more coments on the web.
Ralph Olson
Adjutant/Finance Officer
American Legion Post 10
I was good until the end, when Ralph Olson said that Post 10’s issuing a statement “…would only serve to cause more comments on the web.” So? The more comments that appear regarding fraudulent claims of military service and stolen valor, the better. Perhaps it will give someone else pause before he claims service and honors not his. Maybe others who have made false claims will now sleep uneasy, worrying that they too will be found out. As for what’s-his-name’s stellar military career of two consecutive months, the verdict is in and the punishment has been meted out. He is done.
