NYPD arrest 2 in terror plot
The New York Times reports that two men were arrested by the New York Police Department and they’re expected to be charged under New York State’s terrorism law.
Details were not immediately available, and the identities of the men were not released. A law enforcement source characterized the suspects as “homegrown,” and another said they were of North African descent.
I’m guessing their names aren’t Bill and Fred.
In related news, according to the Associated Press, an American fighting alongside al Qaeda in Somalia, Omar Hammami, known as Abu Mansur al-Amriki, has threatened to avenge Usama bin Laden’s death.
Hammami is among hundreds of foreign fighters in the ranks of the al-Shabab, Somalia’s most dangerous militant group, that is trying to topple the country’s weak U.N.-backed government.
Al-Shabab carried out its first international attack last July in Uganda, killing 76 people watching the World Cup final in two bomb explosions.
Hammami grew up in the middle-class town of Daphne, Alabama, before joining the militants in 2007.
