Biden/DOJ leading gun control efforts

| March 19, 2011

ROS sends us a ink to a Huffington Post article about Joe Biden leading this Administration on gun control;

Aides to the vice president were present at a 90-minute meeting that the Department of Justice hosted with gun control advocates on Tuesday, administration officials said. And while those officials stressed Biden’s involvement in the gun policy discussion was still very much in its beginning stages — “at this point, we are just gathering ideas from people,” said an administration official, “and [the Vice President’s staff is] involved in that” — those in attendance were pleased to see Biden emissaries at the table, interpreting it as a sign of seriousness on the administration’s behalf.

What ideas could the gun control people possibly have? They just fall back on confiscation…and Joe Biden’s staff meeting with control nuts is absolutely frightening. Biden has the intellectual depth of a fruitfly and as the article points out, it was Biden’s staff who wrote the draconian 1994 gun bill (which, by the way, did nothing to stop gun crimes);

The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 was written, in large part, by then-senator Biden. It included major curbs on assault weapons, not only barring the manufacturing of 19 different brands of firearms, but also outlawing the possession of newly manufactured high-capacity magazines.

So, I guess the Justice Department has joined forces with the Biden anti-gun Fascists to find a way to ease us into the confiscation boiling pot.

The Assault Weapon Ban was a joke. I’ve yet to see where a “high capacity” magazine used in conjunction with a pistol grip, bayonet lug, flash suppressor, etc makes a weapon any more deadly than it would be otherwise. That law was all about cosmetics–if it looks evil it must be. Residing in the safe right now is the lower to a “post-ban” Bushmaster XM15E2S. I bought it during the height of the former ban and the long-since-sold upper receiver sported a 16″ heavy barrel without a lug or flash suppressor while the lower still has the A2-style fixed stock. Eventually (with this kind of talk, probably sooner than later) a new upper will be purchased or built. Whether I make a plain-Jane AR-15 (possible as I am looking into EIC shoots) or register it as an SBR and make an M4 or CAR-15 lookalike, the rifle will be a safe queen reserved for occasional trips to the range. Honestly, if I need a rifle for protection one of my Mausers or Enfields would be the first choice, not some prettied-up AR. Gun owners should be capable of replacing their magazines (one of the least reliable parts and the one most susceptible to damage) without having to either: a) settle for less, or b) pay a jacked-up price. If I want a magazine for a big pistol like the Beretta I want all 15 rounds, anything less and I’ll just carry the Kel-Tec. Going to a gun show and paying over $50 for a used spare magazine for a gun I paid $200 for is outrageous as well. Back during the ban I accumulated the big four service rifle clones–AR-15, MAK-90, HK91, and FAL. Ironically, now that the ban is gone I’m more into seventy-year-old milsurp than cool stuff, and have even started carrying a revolver again, so a similar ban would not impact my purchases and so on very much. This isn’t about me, though, it’s about the freedom for qualified persons to legally purchase whatever firearms they desire. I am too young to remember the time when a… Read more »

Jonn, I think you just insulted fruit flys to an actionable level with that comparison. What we are seeing is the start of a major effort on gun control, and we need to stand up for our rights and confront the misinformation/lies that are going to be used in the attempt.

Leadership? From this administration?

Seriously, what’s the catch? Is Candid Camera filming this thread?

I also “saw” where Biden el al had invited gun controllers to a summit, but not gun freedom people. How condescending. And at this point, with the political climate being what it is, with the politicians on BOTH sides being ignoramuses, I NO LONGER CARE WHAT “LAWS” THEY MAY PASS. I WILL NOT OBEY THEM.

As a favorite web site I read says:
We will not disarm.
You cannot convince us.
You cannot intimidate us.
You can try to kill us, if you think you can.
But remember, we’ll shoot back .
We are not going away.
We are not backing up another inch.
And there are THREE MILLION OF US.
Your move, Mr. Wannabe Tyrant.
Your move.

Well, they did invite the NRA, but Wayne La Pierre said “why would I want to show up in a room full of organizations that have as their mission to take away my right to own guns?” IOW Fuck off is what he said.

I had this discussion with an anti-gun type at work and there is absolutely no reasoning with them. He started out the conversation that he didn’t know anything about guns. Later in the conversation he said that he has shot guns several times. I didn’t want to point to his contradiction or tell him he was full of shit about ever firing guns before, but I did let him know that emotionalism isn’t a valid argument. I told him his fear in no way justified him to be able to tell others they can’t protect themselves with firearms or didn’t have the right to have them. I then asked him how many laws are on the books restricting firearms. He didn’t know so I informed him that there are over 20,000 federal and state gun laws involving 1 amendment of the Constitution. I then asked him how many laws were on the books restricting free speech or free expression. Yeah, that’s right, there are many, many more laws restricting the 2nd Amendment versus any of the other Amendments. What the public school geniuses don’t understand is that the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution deal with individual rights. Rights that the government, not the individual, are supposed to be restricted from tampering with, yet we keep letting these chuckleheads go further and further in order for peope to “feel” safe. There is no mention of the right to feel safe anywhere in the Constitution.

Spot on Old Trooper, you don’t have the right to “feel” safe, but the 2nd Amendment in the BoR gives you the means to BE safe!
