DoJ gets kidnapping indictment against 18 FARC

| December 14, 2010

I really don’t get this. According to the Washington Times tonight, the Justice Department has secured a federal indictment against 18 Colombian guerrillas from the narco-terrorist organization FARC in regards to the kidnapping of three American contractors and the execution of two other contractors eight years ago;

Mr. Gonsalves, Mr. Stansell and Mr. Howes, along with two others, were conducting counter-drug aerial surveillance in southern Colombia on Feb. 13, 2003, when their Cessna aircraft experienced engine failure and was forced to make an emergency landing on a remote mountainside where a large contingent of FARC guerrillas were gathered.

All five occupants of the plane survived the crash, but were taken captive by the FARC guerrillas.

The pilot of the plane, Thomas Janis, and the Colombian national, Sgt. Luis Alcides Cruz, were executed by FARC, and their bodies left near the crash site.

Gonsalves, Stansell and Howes were held hostage for more than five years until they were rescued by Colombian special forces. Their ordeal was chronicled in their book “Out of Captivity” which I highly recommend.

I just think it’s stupid to get an indictment on 18 guys in the Colombian jungle when in five years they couldn’t even find three Americans in the Colombian jungle. I think this is just more of the same old shit – trying to make us feel safe. If they were in the US, fine, play lawyer and policeman, but in Colombia? Why not just loan Colombia some Predators and fire Hellfire missiles at everyone wearing BDUs.

Asking this administration to take a firm stand with those who wish to harm US interests is anathema to them.
