Karzai makes plea for peace to Taliban

The Afghanistan president made a holiday plea for peace to his Taliban buddies today According to the Associated Press;

Karzai has increased overtures toward the Taliban over the past year as part of an effort to coax the insurgent group into negotiations, including pushing for the removal of Taliban fighters from travel blacklists and setting up a peace council as the formal mediation body.

“I request and hope that all our brothers and countrymen who are unhappy or have taken up weapons against their own people and country for any reason, that they welcome the peace efforts of the Afghan people and accept a happy and safe life through the High Peace Council,” Karzai said.

Meanwhile, over in Pakistan, they have gunfights over who is going to say the prayer today, also according to the Associated Press;

A shootout inside a mosque in southwestern Pakistan wounded 18 people Wednesday in a dispute over who should lead prayers for one of Islam’s most important holidays, police said.

Followers of the two rival religious leaders pulled out weapons and started shooting Wednesday morning after arguing over which one should start the prayers at a small mosque….

Karzai is expected to announce the time for his next “farting in the wind” and “pissing up a rope” routine.
