On Basil Marceaux
Last weekend, in response to several requests, I wrote a bit about Basil Marceaux, a candidate for governor in Tennessee who claimed he had been a Force Recon Marine. I doubted it given his demeanor at the time. We just got his records fromour friends at POW Net and it turns out he was indeed involved in Force Recon.
He went in the Marines in 1971 until 1973 when the military was drawing down so he didn’t go to Vietnam, but that doesn’t detract from his service. He never claimed any medals he didn’t earn, unlike many other politicians.
Welcome home, Basil.

Finally! A politician who’s telling the TRUTH about his service.
I think I’m going to faint from the shock.
As Jonn said, welcome home.
Now where can I donate?
I have a candidate to vote for? Yippee!
Thanks for poutting this up, Jonn, we all appreciate it.
To those that think Jonn doesn’t tell the truth, or dosn’t print retractions….take note. It’s not a retraction, just a clarification on something Jonn was suspicious of and brought forth the goods.
I, also, would like to say welcome home to Mr. Marceaux and thank you for your service and honesty.
Thanks Jonn; for being un-progressive and doing a clarification. Now to check his platform and see if I should support his effort.
Basil was defeated in the primary last week, so you can’t vote for him.
Nothing like the truth. That is how it should be.
Jonn; maybe Basil can run as an independent? I don’t know how TN law goes; but it might be worth a try?
Basil was probably pretty sharp once. I suspect that after he went home, he indulged in the delights of homemade Tennessee moonshine a little too much.
In any event, he has my thanks for his service.
Guys, before getting all hooped-up on Basil running, you gotta go watch his takedown by Beck. I mean, really, you do. He makes Green in SC look positively like Oxford material. I’m sure he’s a great guy, Basil, but Gubernatorial material?
I thinks not…
I’d be happy to sit and drink a beer with Basil, but I don’t think I’d want him as my Gov.
Wolf–couldn’t be any worse than half the brain-deads out there like “The Governator”, Gregoire, Granholm, Deville Patrick, Patterson, etc, etc, etc…
Well, good on him.
He has some interesting ideas, he just isn’t eloquent in speech. I doubt I’d want him as a Governor as well.
Thank you to Basil Marceaux for his service. Thank you to TAH for yet another interesting story.
uh, didn’t the first mouthy asshole badmouth him pretty bad the first 30 seconds? I think an apology is in order.
I’m glad this one turned out good, but blame the countless imposters for making many of us cynics and doubters.
Hell, even an active duty Command Sergeant Major gets busted for fake claims.
I was one of the ones that emailed Jonn. I thought for sure there was no way a buffoon like Basil would’ve been a Recon Marine.
Apparently I was wrong.
It looks like he was in 2nd Force Recon for 1 month and 2nd Recon Bn for 7 months and it looks like he did complete the Amphibious Recon Course.
Props to him, for back in the day. Semper Fi, Basil!
That right I am a Force Recon Marine! Now a army navy civlian. What would you do if 6 cops put a gun to your face while and pulling your friend a navy seal out of the car and beat him up.
well you see what I done!
hey marine Semp Fi
Demeanor aside, I found his clothes weird. He wore a blazer with jump wings and service stripes indicating 24 years of service. He also has some kind of badge hanging around his neck – http://politics.freesitenow.com/basilmarceauxforgovernor/images/Basil.JPG
Run Forrest…Run!!!
While he was in Force Recon. His bragging about it should be kept to a minimum. After all, he spent 31 days in it and was sent down to Bn. Having served in Force Recon in 1967 and 3rd Bn. Recon in 1973 that is what they do to guys who are good Marines, but don’t meet the qualities of Force. They send them to Bn. It’s not a bad thing but as I said, not much bragging rights. He should be bragging about being in Recon which turned out much better for him.
