US Marines exchanged gunfire with suspected gang members in Haiti, official says

No US service members were injured while protecting the embassy in Port-au-Prince
By Ashley Carnahan

U.S. Marines protecting the American embassy in Haiti exchanged gunfire with suspected gang members last week, a Marine spokesman said.

Capt. Steven J. Keenan told Fox News Digital in an emailed statement Sunday that Marines supporting embassy security operations were fired upon by suspected gang members in the capital of Port-au-Prince and returned fire on the evening of Nov. 13.

“U.S. Marines are committed to the safety and security of U.S. embassies worldwide and respond to all threats with professionalism and swift, disciplined action,” Keenan said.

No service members were injured in the incident, which was first reported over the weekend by The Washington Post.

The U.N. said a gang suppression force of 5,550 was set to begin operations in Haiti on Oct. 2, working alongside Haitian authorities to neutralize gangs, secure infrastructure and support humanitarian access.

Wrong Embassy.

Great job by the United Nations. Last time the UN deployed peacekeepers there a cholera outbreak began in the UN’s camp that killed thousands of Haitians.

A class-action lawsuit against the UN was brought by Boston-based Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti on behalf of 5,000 cholera victims. A federal district judge dismissed the suit, ruling that international treaties immunize the UN from lawsuits.

I’m sure the surviving Haitians are glad to have them back. So are the Marines.
*cough*

I certainly hope those Marines stacked up opponents like firewood.

They meant to attack the FRENCH embassy. They were confused by the Red, White, and Blue flag flying overhead.

Glad our Marines are OK

Hope the gangsters had their reproductive equipment permanently neutralized.

Grunt

I was on a college campus a month or so ago taking an IT exam at the campus testing center. Most of the college kids looked like they were about 12.

I noticed the field grade officer standing ahead of me in the check out line. I asked him if he ever heard the expression, “Field Grade officers know they’re getting old when they appear as old as their Senior NCO’s”? He said he hadn’t. I said I must be getting old because Field Grade officers are appearing young enough to be my children.

But but but I thought the Clinton initiative cleaned up Haiti…

Prior Service (Ret)

No. They cleaned it out, not up.

SFC D

Oh. Silly me.

I spent a year working in a US Consulate. Because i was Army and not State Department, I routinely worked late. Every couple of days I would have the opportunity to watch the Marine Security Guards moving through the empty building doing one of their many battle drills in my spaces to keep proficient. It was always cool to watch them. Never had to do it live, but I had absolute confidence in them.

Haitians are stupid.
