‘Career Criminal’ Shot During Subway Robbery Attempt at Penn Station
A robbery attempt at Penn Station turned chaotic Tuesday evening when an off-duty NYPD officer shot a suspect during a violent scuffle on the subway platform.
PIX11 News reports the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jahmar Stewart, is a “career criminal” with five prior arrests, including one just last month for multiple assaults.
The incident unfolded around the evening rush on Track 18. Police sources say that Stewart tried to rob two off-duty officers—a couple heading home to Long Island after working UN security details.
During the confrontation, the male officer was cut on his head as he fought Stewart on the platform.
Believing Stewart may have had a weapon, the female officer drew her firearm and fired at least one shot, striking Stewart in the arm.
No weapon was recovered at the scene, but sources said the officers acted quickly to stop the threat in the crowded station.
Witnesses described the tense moment, with commuters caught off guard in the middle of the rush-hour crowd.
“These officers put themselves on the line every day,” one bystander told PIX11. “They had to make a split-second decision, and they’ll be judged for it.”
Stewart was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he is expected to survive. He is being charged with attempted robbery and assault, per ABC 7 News.

Judge dismisses felony charges in Cedar City road rage shooting, citing self-defense
By Tracie Sullivan, Iron County Today
A 5th District Court judge has dismissed multiple felony charges against a Cedar City motorcyclist accused of shooting a man during a road rage confrontation, ruling the shooting was an act of self-defense.In a 14-page decision issued Monday, Judge Meb Anderson dismissed one count of felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault against 47-year-old Jason Bryan Stolworthy.
Those two most serious charges were dismissed with prejudice, meaning they cannot be refiled. Two counts of reckless endangerment were dismissed without prejudice, leaving the option for prosecutors to pursue them again.
Stolworthy still faces charges of obstruction of justice and reckless driving. His bail was reduced from $200,000 to $10,000.
The ruling stems from a June 12, 2024, altercation near Main Street and Fiddlers Canyon Road, where Stolworthy shot the driver of a white Mercedes. The driver, identified as Robert Mabbitt, survived and later recovered from his injuries.
Anderson ruled that Mabbitt was the primary aggressor and found Stolworthy reasonably believed deadly force was necessary to stop another attack. He cited both gas station surveillance video and a bystander’s cellphone recording as key evidence.
The footage shows Mabbitt striking Stolworthy through his helmet visor, which knocked him off his motorcycle. After the fall, Mabbitt continued moving toward Stolworthy in an aggressive manner.
“The Court finds that subjective and objective imminence existed, and Stolworthy reasonably believed force was necessary,” Anderson wrote. He noted that Mabbitt closed distance on Stolworthy and shouted threats just before the shooting.
Although Anderson called Stolworthy’s decision to chase Mabbitt’s car during the lead-up to the incident “irresponsible and inadvisable,” he ruled it did not prove intent to provoke a fight.
“Once parked, it is clear from video evidence … that Stolworthy was not the aggressor. Stolworthy remains on his bike as Mabbitt approaches,” the judge noted.

One of the items mentioned in a CCW class was pretty simple. Once you have the permit and are carrying, leave the middle finger at home. Not displaying the finger can help keep you out of a confrontation, especially with a road rage situation. Avoiding having to use the gun is the best way to win a confrontation and gun fight. Do not provoke, make every attempt to avoid and use force only when there is no other reasonable option because every single round launched will have a hostile lawyer attached to it.
Or, to quote Ogden Nash; “…when called by a panther, don’t anther.”
Stolworthy has unfinished business to deal with. Albeit, he probably should have just called the cops to begin with instead of engaging with the molester.
NYC really changed since I retired and moved out
Mr Jahmar Stewart….just by your name, tell me your melanin skin content, without directly telling me your melanin skin content.
He has poor victim selection skills, but great FAFO skills.
“….he is expected to survive.”
Damn! The Mrs didn’t apply the TSS in the defense of her SO. Too bad. Another drain on the taxpayers’ pockets.
A most beauticious and lovely Ms Thang.
With her poor gun discipline with both fingers on the triggers, is she going to discharge something, or is she just happy to see me?
