No charges after man admits to killing 21-year-old in Douglas County, prosecutors say he acted in self-defense

Story by Jonathan Raymond, Marissa Sarbak, Angelina Salcedo, Akilah Winters
The district attorney in Douglas County provided an update Tuesday afternoon on the case of a 21-year-old man who was found shot dead in a car in January, with the family alleging someone confessed to the shooting.

Malachi Mitchell was discovered in the car during a traffic stop. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle — believed to be the person who shot Mitchell— was taken in for questioning and later released.

On Tuesday, District Attorney Dalia Racine said the driver acted in self-defense and will not face any charges.

Mitchell’s mother, Kenya Mitchell, has previously spoken out on several occasions as the circumstances of Mitchell’s death have remained murky.

No Score
11 Alive

Mr. Mitchell departed his home around 2330 on 29 Jan to meet the driver for a gun sale.

It appears that the driver demonstrated the proper performance of the pistol to Mr. Mitchell. I’d say that so far according to the info, Mr. Mitchell chose……. poorly.

Leaves at 2230 for a gun sale instead of say…noon in a public place? Nothing fishy about that.

Err…2330

In addition to the Gerber MkII, I’d like to add the KaBar to my tool kit.
But were I to be confined to just one of the two, the Gerber would be my pick.

Took an M3 Fighting Knife to Asscrackistan myself.

Excellent choice. My Gerber was stolen; so I took the eminently useful Camillus Army pocket knife to the Viet of the Nam.
