Military officers to assist with prosecuting local D.C. crimes
Select Military officers of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps are set to assist the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia. Starting next week, they will begin their training to work with misdemeanor cases. One justification for this move was that the U.S. Attorney’s office for D.C. is short on staff. The linked article was quick to note the removal of the prosecution staff involved with prosecuting the January 6, 2021, Capitol rioters as a cause for this shortage.
From NBC News:
Twenty members of the Defense Department are set to begin working as special assistant U.S. attorneys — federal prosecutors — in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia next week, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News.
Tim Lauer, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, confirmed the move, saying members of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps would be joining the office, though he did not know how long the detail would last.
The Trump administration has overhauled the Justice Department since January, shifting federal law enforcement resources toward immigration-related offenses, overhauling the Civil Rights Division and targeting career law enforcement officials involved in cases disfavored by the administration, including the two criminal cases against Trump.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is unique in that it prosecutes both federal crimes in U.S. District Court and local adult criminal offenses in D.C. Superior Court. The office led the charge in prosecuting members of the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
A person familiar with the plans said that the 20 new employees were expected to work misdemeanor cases and that they would begin their training next week.
Steven Vladeck, a law professor at Georgetown University, noted that in 1983, the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel said JAG lawyers could not serve as special assistant U.S. attorneys because it violated a statute barring military officers from exercising the duties of a civil office. But just a few months later, Congress authorized them to do so.

We need to bring this back….
If the company makes enough of those stocks and goes public, then I’ll buy stocks on the stock market. Courts should stock up on those stocks.
Stocks with locks. Put criminals in them around the clock.
Watch them become a laughing stock as people line up around the block just to see morons in those stocks.
I once asked someone better educated than I, why not bring back the stocks; or even better, put convicts on display as they did in Doris Piserchia’s A Billion Days of Earth. His reply was stocks or display would be cruel and therefore unconstitutional. I’ve always had a disconnect between punishment and cruelty. I would never tolerate Gestapo tactics; but, rehabilitation must contain some contrition.
I hear that there is an AAG in Rhode Island that’s looking for a job!
Hopefully.
She is suspended without pay. Those bar tabs aren’t going to pay themselves.
Wait, she’s only an “ASSISTANT?!?!?!?”
I thought she was an ATTORNEY GENERAL!!!!!!! SHE’S AN AG!!!!!! SHE’S AN AG!!!!!! SHE’S AN AG!!!!!! (is she an AG?!?!) SHE’S AN AG!!!!!!
Nope, she’s an ASSISTANT AG!!!
Bitch.
As her boss most likely said to her … WTF!!! You do realize the bind you’ve put me in, and I don’t want to hear I’m an AG, I’m am AG coming out of your mouth.
With all the attention this is getting, I don’t see anyway she keeps her job, or gets another anytime soon.
They don’t complain when the military docs help out at the civilian hospitals with the trauma cases, no reason to think things won’t be different here.
Agreed. It’s a bunch of hand waving and shrieking at the sky.
Around my neck of the woods, probably a third of the folks working at the covid mass jab events were military, in one form or another.
Hmmm, I wonder if this will count as a “deployment” and a new medal will be created just for it? /s
The war on drugs.
The VA should get ahead of it…
“Defense of DC” medal.
And I just sent this to Mason and Ed.
HOLY. FUCKING SHIT!!
The Fucking OPTICS of Q+ …. 😉
Trump plans to patrol DC with National Guard on Thursday

Not enough time to hire protestors. What will the left do? Protest in person? Nope too hot.
Maybe he could buy the police all dinner now that he doesn’t have to worry about the bullshit $500,000,000 fine anymore. Commissary was supposed to tell us all about the other people that were punished the same way for the same hideous crimes, but it turns out there weren’t any.
Nope. This was a non-crime specially designed for Trump. The witch even went before the cameras and stupidly said that other real estate businesses needn’t worry about this happening to them.
I’m not real big on this. Looks wayyyy too close to martial law to suit me. I know it’s legal, but it’s gonna start a fire.
I heard that we didn’t start the fire, it’s been burning since the world has been turning.
Great song.
Could this be the start of the tribunals some are saying are coming?
If so I hope they prosecute John Bolton first. That SOB has a lot to be called to account for over the last 25 years.
The list is long, and there will be much arguing over who gets prosecuted first. Me? I’ll be happy to see the first get perp walked, whoever that may be, and listen to them sing like a songbird about how they were just following orders, and who was giving them. Some of these ass hats are old enough that if given 20 years, they will be rolled out of prison horizontally.
It’s a start, let’s see where this goes.

Apparently there isn’t going to be much crime to prosecute. Homicide is down 100%, Car jackings 86%, Robbery 43%.
