Playboy Flees California’s Hostile Business Environment

Playboy Leaves ‘Anti-Business’ L.A., California for Miami Beach
Joel B. Pollak
Playboy is moving its corporate headquarters from Los Angeles to Miami Beach, Florida, with the CEO of the pioneering men’s entertainment company — and liberal outlet — describing California as hostile to business.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
Playboy Enterprises announced on Wednesday that it will relocate its headquarters from Los Angeles to Miami Beach, becoming the latest high-profile company to abandon California in favor of what some call more business-friendly environments.
Ben Kohn, chief executive of Playboy, described California as being “anti-business,” saying the state is an “extremely expensive place” to operate.
“We are excited to move the company to the city of Miami Beach, which has been phenomenal to deal with, very pro-business,” Kohn said. “When you look at the cost of doing business in California against the cost of doing business in Florida, and you combine that with the energy of Miami Beach, it made all the sense in the world for Playboy to move there.”
Breitbart News reported earlier this year that Playboy is also returning to nudes and fit women after a failed “woke” rebrand that featured plus-size models and a transgender playmate, plus a temporary ban on nudity.
The California exodus continues apace.

I’m a lifelong Playboy connoisseur. Well, a half-lifelong one anyway. I was reading my dad’s magazines (and yes, seeing what women were supposed to look like) in my single digits. I haven’t picked up any since the early 2000s but have a bunch in my garage. I wish I’d have taken better care of them; the Trump interview issue is still worth a decent amount in the condition my copy is in but could be worth thousands if it were basically new.
Back in the dark days of analog content, when we had to flip pages to see attractive women in various stages of undress (in this digital age, I can simply switch to another tab and search for anyone [or anything] I want to see whether its wholesome or completely profane). Playboy tried to live up to its namesake, offering not only nude women, but ones that seemed to have at least a bit of dignity, and having some great articles and interviews to boot.
The two major competitors, Hustler and Penthouse, took different approaches, especially the former. Around 1999 I was in GM School and picked up a copy of Hustler. It promised their most daring pictorial yet. The centerfold was an attractive blonde, from what I recall, well-proportioned until the third page where I saw “she” was a bit too proportioned. Yep, Hustler was doing the trans thing before everybody and their
brothersister was doing it, though it was more about the shock value. That was the last copy of that magazine I ever picked up.Maxim is kind of a Playboy lite, but I recall they fell off for a while when they changed their format. Sports Illustrated found out the hard way that men like attractive women. No need to toss in “biological”–a woman is a woman, and a man is a man.
I don’t see Playboy regaining the “sophisticated” men’s magazine image it once had, but doing away with the “woke” nonsense and moving out of CA is a positive step forward.
We had Playboy and other girlie magazines aboard the ship back in the day. The 2nd deck chiller space had a couple of chilled water tanks stacked against the bulkhead and the top set back tank had a fart sack so one could catch a couple of zeeees while skating and a number of girlie magazines to keep him company.
A friends dad had a stack of issues hidden in the garden
shed when we were kids, probably thinking his wife didn’t
know about it. Or maybe they were hers…..
I seemed to notice a lot of lupines hopping across the landscape of late.
They seemed to have a largesse of loppy ears and luscious tails, as well as a lavish amount of lovely long legs as well as a collection of very high heels, and extravagant hosiery….
Aw, fuck it, I can’t keep up the Playboy style of writing…them babes was lookin’ fiiiine…..and I was a sportin’ wood.
Let’s hope they don’t run foul of Daytona Beach spring break mayhem and shenanigans.
Newsums has been simultaneously suing and threatening oil refiners and then begging them to stay in the state. Phillips 66 and Valero are pulling up stakes and moving on to greener pastures.
He sounds like narcissistic wife beater when he talks about them leaving, blaming everyone but himself, saying things will be different this time. They don’t seem to be in the mood to kiss and make up because they know what happens next.
Newsome sucks. California sucks.
Fuck them. Hope everyone leaves that state and it collapses even further into absolute shit.
Newscum is going to make gasoline cost upwards of $8 a gallon in California with his idiocy, then he’ll screech that it’s corporate greed on the part of the oil companies, and hordes of brainwashed liberal minions will fall in lockstep with his propaganda, especially in the mainstream media.
Next up: California will try to run a refinery.
As I wrote that, I immediately thought of “Bohpal”.
Government can’t even run a brothel in Nevada, and the government-run grocery store in Kansas City went kaput showing their capability in that business!
Also my same exact thought. I started thinking what was the worst that could happen? Then I remembered how the last few chapters of Atlas Shrugged went down.
Progressives are against anything normal.
Progressives Against Goodness And Normalcy
Well done.
Wouldn’t be surprised if that shithole California tried to tax them long after they leave. Wasn’t this the same state that just a few years back tried to claim that if you made your nut out there, you somehow owed them even after leaving? Yeah. Fuck them.
Sort of like the Nazis charging Jews an exit tax to escape Germany.
After reviewing the play Hack is 100% spot on!
NY and NJ do much the same thing.
I left there nearly two decades ago. I registered my vehicle immediately upon arrival in NH and transferred the title.
Fast forward six months and my uncle passed early the following year. CA tried withholding state taxes from the relatively modest amount he left me, and when that didn’t work, the DMV tried garnishing nearly as much because I was “delinquent” in renewal of my vehicle registration.
Took nearly seven months of fighting with the Franchise Tax Board and DMV before I got my money back. Fuck California.
Playboy featured a shemale? 🤢
AND fat chicks? If one wanted to stare at a fat chick, all they have to do is wait for the wife to get home
Or just walk down an aisle at a Wal mart!
Or go the Commissary Saturday morning. They are the ones wearing “Marine Corps Wife; Toughest Job in the Corps” sweatshirts.
Same ones who tell others to respect them for their husband’s rank.
Noooo!

Or you can go to a bathing suit fashion show. Safe money says if her name didn’t end in Hasselhof this wouldn’t be thing, still the irony… it burns like the penance of the fires of hell.
I think she has the top and the bottom mixed up.
More bounce to the ounce!
My saddest story…a couple of friends who were into the vintage issues showed me an old issue and waited to see me get excited about Linda Evans appearing in it. Me, I had found a previously unpublished Travis McGee story in it and was reading the story. (I did get around to Ms. Evans eventually, but still…)
Who could ever forget her Oscar worthy performance as Greta in the 1975 masterpiece Mitchell?
Saw a few copies of the girlie mags when I was younger, but what stands out in my memory was my roommate in the 2nd year of college. He had a large collection of magazines, but no girl friends.
I had a goodly collection of very attractive girl friends. Very attractive.
Didn’t see any need for the girlie mags after that.
When the -porn- industry bails, CA is truly in the cakky.
Hey Commissar! What was that tripe you spewed about California’s economy being so strong it was like 5th in the world? About how it put more into the federal coffers than it took? The ship is sinking and the smart folks are filling the lifeboats. What say you?
People still subscribe or buy Playboy?
Maybe, their going woke a few years ago about killed that magazine!
Internet pr0n eliminates having to claim reading it for the articles for the younger generation.
I read the articles.
