Dramatic video shows man shooting at attackers following Bronx dispute

By Kerry Burke
A man embroiled in a dispute and attacked by two other men pulled out a gun and wildly opened fire at the pair in a bloody confrontation Monday in the Bronx, police said.

In a stunning video obtained by the Daily News, two men are seen grabbing and kicking a third male around 12:59 p.m. near Commonwealth and Westchester Aves. in Soundview.

The jaw-dropping video shows that during the confrontation, the gunman — dressed in a hoodie — is held in a rear waist lock by his attacker while another man man appears to be filming the assault on a cell phone. The gunman then suddenly pulls out a gun and fires a shot over his shoulder, striking one of the assailants, and runs off before firing yet another shot at the other attacker.

According to cops, a 27-year-old man was unresponsive and unconscious with a gunshot wound to the torso when police responded. EMS rushed the man to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, police said.

The victim’s trick shooting skills are impressive, in that he didn’t shoot himself in the process.

Update: KCSO said burglary attempt led to shooting on Montview

An apparently burglary attempt ended with the suspect being shot by a homeowner on the 300 block of Montview Avenue early Monday morning.

Deputies were called to the house at 5:55 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress and found the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound.

The suspect, identified as Felix Villasenor Cortez, 36 was airlifted to Kern Medical.

He remained in the intensive care unit on Tuesday but is expected to survive his wounds, the Kern County Sheriff said.

When deputies arrived a the house, they were told the homeowner and confronted Cortez in the backyard of his residence, and during the encounter, Cortez “allegedly charged the homeowner while holding an unknown object,” the KCSO said.

The homeowner then shot the suspect, the KCSO said.

Cortez was absentee-booked into Kern County jail on a charge of first degree burglary and on a misdemeanor warrant.

We now have bringing unknown objects to gun fights. Doesn’t seem to affect the outcome though.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A man is dead after being shot by the woman he was assaulting, police say.

According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, the man arrived at the home of a woman with whom he had previously been in a relationship early Sunday morning. Police say the man forced his way into the home and began to assault the woman.

During the assault, GPD says the woman was able to grab a handgun and shoot the man. When officers responded to the home in the 1800 block of Avenue E, just west of Mountain Creek Lake, they found the man shot. He was later pronounced dead by the Grand Prairie Fire Department, police say.

The department said the woman was taken to a local hospital, where she is expected to recover from her injuries.

Grand Prairie PD said the case is being investigated as a self-defense shooting and will be reviewed by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

Great work KoB

Should I really put in a T2NB2AGF page for “unknown object”?

Dude, she’s over you. But her boolit isn’t, it hit “dead” center. Get it? “Dead”….Anyway, time to move on. We’ll let the ambulance driver and mortuary staff do the heavy lifting.

Trick shooting, over his own body, while being grappled. Impressive. A GO at this station, you may proceed. Wonder if he’s a descendant of Annie Oakley?

It was indeed a target rich environment for FGS, Tox. Some days you’re the windshield…some days you’re the bug. Just means the struggle may get real before today is over.

And of course, “unknown object” deserves it’s own page in the T2NB2AGF. It’ll give future generations something to speculate on.

Need to get my happy ass over to the Toy Store and pick up the Mini 14 that home boy is holding for me. Another NIB item for my Grandson for when the time comes.

At Least the Bronx ain’t as bad as back in the 1950’s with all the gangs. While leaving the Iris eye Doc yesterday, I go on the elevator and I talk to a guy and his lady friend and turns out that he lived in Laurelton Queens NYC where I used to live and was a soda jerk in the ice cream store that I used to go to, BUT his friend tells me that she was a member of the Bronx Baldies board I imagine that was for taking in new gang members. She is in her mid 80’s and tells me that she goes to the ladies room and a number of The Baldies ladies come in and do a job on her with garrison belts. The Girls were all girlfriends of the gang members and had a beef with her.. I googled the Bronx 1950’s gangs and their were a shitload of them going into the 1960’s and beyond.

Forgot to add that the name of the Bronx gang was the Bronx Fordham Baldies not the Bronx Baldies. Another forgetfull mistake.

My critique:
The Bronx dude did all right in a very dynamic situation. But he may want to change his friend circle.

If possible, that California homeowner might want to investigate any future suspicious activity while holding a 12ga loaded with 00buck. Folks will charge a pistol, but only the drugged up ones will charge a shotgun.

The Grand Prairie gal needs to learn from her experience and choose better men in the future. Glad she survived this one.

That Ruger is more enticing to me as a truck gun than the Daniel Defense, to be honest. Maybe someday.

I concur. Back in the day during vehicle take downs the shotgun often had people on their best behavior. Thugs seemed to respect it more than rifles and more than one commented “oh shit, they got the shotgun out, they serious”. I think this is because they have known a number of people who have been shot and survived (or not) and know what the firearms are capable of.

It’s funny, back in the eighties the Mini-14 was the lower priced alternative to the AR-15, of which Colt was the sole maker of as the Stoner parents hadn’t expired yet. The Mini, depending on the seller, could be had for something like $350-$450 while the AR was $600 on up. Now the situation’s reversed, you can find decent entry level AR’s for what the original ’80’s Mini cost.
