Mike Waltz out as National Security Advisor in aftermath of Signal chat leak

| May 1, 2025 | 29 Comments

Mike Waltz, former National Security Advisor, and his deputy Alex Wong were removed from their roles with the Trump administration. More people have been identified for removal in the aftermath of Jeffrey Goldberg’s inclusion in a Signal group chat. Waltz told Laura Ingraham that he took full responsibility for creating the group and for including Goldberg in it. People were fired for this event as of early April.

From Fox News:

Fox News confirmed Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, were ousted Thursday. Sources said additional staffers removed from the office will likely be announced, and President Donald Trump is expected to speak publicly about the matter.

Waltz, who previously served as a Florida congressman and as a decorated combat Green Beret, has come under fire from Democrats and critics since March, when the Atlantic magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg published a firsthand account of getting added to a Signal group chat with top national security leaders, including Waltz, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, while they discussed strikes against Yemen terrorists.

Waltz took responsibility for the inclusion of a journalist in the group chat, telling Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “I take full responsibility. I built the group,” he said. “It’s embarrassing. We’re going to get to the bottom of it.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital earlier Monday when asked about reports claiming Waltz and others would be shown the door, “We are not going to respond to reporting from anonymous sources.”

Trump held a meeting with members of his cabinet on Wednesday following his 100th day back in office Tuesday, with Waltz attending the meeting.

Following confirmation of Waltz’s ouster, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Fox News, “The National Security Advisor Waltz is out. He’s the first. He certainly won’t be the last.”

He clearly didn’t attend the Democratic Party Power Point presentation that explained you never take responsibility for your actions and throw other people under the bus for your mistakes, murder them only when absolutely necessary to save your career.

Live and learn I guess.

Odie

Will he sue to get his job back?

5JC

Which one? The one he quit to get the one he was fired from or the one he was fired from?

Democrats spent $10M to lose the race for his old congressional seat. Of the $10M, $600k came from Florida and the rest from “outside Florida”.

This was nearly ten times the amount the winning Republican spent.

No, he is not a D-rat/Prog. Plus, it has been reported that Trump will nominate him as UN Ambassador.

Like the guy found dead in the DC woods during clintons time…..

Meanwhile, when the Dems were in the White House…

Well that should shut the Trump haters around here up. No one in pedo joes cabinet got fired for ANYTHING. Here we have people admitting fault and getting canned.

rgr769

And the only time pedo Joe let the media video a cabinet meeting is a few minutes of the one chaired by his fake “Doctor” Jill, First Lady.

SFC D

Responsible for the whole kerfluffle, or taking one for the team?

5JC

He said early on that he built the chat and sent the accidental invite.

5JC

So he is going to send Waltz to be UN Ambassador and Rubio is going to “fill in temporarily” dual hatted as SEC STATE AND National Security Advisor.

I has headache.

SFC D

I has confusion.

Prior Service (RET)

Nothing wrong with firing someone if an investigation substantiates they were negligent, or they admit fault. That’s a truth that only one political party will acknowle(d)ge or abi(d)e by about their own members, but for the life of me I can’t recall which one…

Jimbojszz

Well demcrats don’t get fired, they become wealthy politicians.

Pro tip: Don’t include a pearl-clutching liberal reporter on a chat group where guys are making locker room talk about war sh*t.

rgr769

Neither Walz nor Hegseth intended him to be listening in on that call using a supposedly secure cellphone app which came pre-loaded on their government phones.

Slow Joe

Why are Republicans always firing people when the Democrats ask for scalps?
I have never seen the Democrats doing the same. On the contrary. When one of them fuck up they cover it, and nothing happens.
Was this Mike Waltz dude a good guy?
If he were, I would have not fire his ass, especially not for this Signal bullshit. I got a bunch of people with the same last name in my phone’s contact list, and I have more than once added the wrong Smith to my group chats.

The Democrats will always do everything they can to weaken the Trump administration. Stop playing this game.

SFC D

Dems cover it up and re-elect the perpetrators. Repeatedly. Republicans are generally better about tossing out their shitbirds. They don’t always succeed but their track record is far better.

Mike Walz is a good guy. He is a retired AD SF Colonel and did a few terms in Congress. If I were president and I had to punish someone, sending them to the UN is a creative way to do that.

Devtun

Waltz. Not to be confused w/ D-Rat VP candidate, MN Guvna, & retired sergeant major…er, master sergeant? 🫤

David

Might be worth pointing out that Signal is explicitly forbidden for classified info, I read? And things like arrival times attacks are scheduled for tend to be classified.

SFAlphaGeek

It’s bad enough when I have to explain this to people who never served and have an excuse to be ignorant about how all this works. How does a CENTCOM planner decide to classify the arrival time of an attack? He has derivative classification authority to classify things according to a classification guide, issued under guidance based on authority derived from the DoD’s Original Classification Authority. The OCA isn’t bound by a classification guide issued under derived authority and can declassify things classified under that authority at any time for any reason. And it’s not like he has to say “Ominus Dominus, this is declassified.” He can just treat it as unclass information. Who the OCA is for DoD is left as an exercise for the reader.

rgr769

I suspect the SECDEF is an OCA.

SgtM

David hates Trump. That is all that matters in its world.

Green Thumb

Just glad it was not my kid flying those planes.

5JC

Well I guess I will be going to prison then David. For certainly I shared many attack times with people who I know for certain had absolutely no clearance whatsoever. Not only that but Im sure they were infiltrated to a degree where I am nearly certain they passed the information along to the enemy.

Green Thumb

I hear you.

Maybe some others on here would be willing to walk point with this nonsense going on.

I have walked point. It sucks.

Devtun

The UN Ambassadorship is a senate confirmed position. This ain’t a slam dunk for Colonel Waltz. Especially w/ RINOs Collins, Murkowski, and a few others. The hearings are gonna be a clown show.

Roh-Dog

The Houthis will be attacked in the next 7 to 10 business days, how are we going to spin this into “no new wars”, “net positive for USA”?… or something.

Did I just commit a bad?

Should I be in jail?

Is this treasonous?

And the best fucking part, no one even bothered to lie about any of it, unlike WJC and his concubine.
