VA to Terminate Home Loan Relief Program

Veterans across the country are grappling with unexpected changes in their benefits and support systems, as recent reports indicate significant shifts in VA programs. These alterations have left many veterans confused and uncertain about their future, with some facing a sudden loss of crucial assistance.

In a move that has caught veterans and advocacy groups by surprise, the Department of Veterans Affairs recently announced it would halt its mortgage rescue program, which had been designed to help veterans avoid foreclosure. Launched just a year ago, the program provided financial assistance to veterans at risk of losing their homes. Now, veterans who were counting on this support are left scrambling for alternative solutions, further complicating their already challenging financial situations.

The Sudden Discontinuation of the VA Mortgage Rescue Program
The mortgage rescue program was introduced with the goal of preventing foreclosure for veterans who were experiencing temporary financial hardship due to medical issues, job loss, or other life circumstances. The VA had committed to helping veterans stay in their homes, but now, that safety net is being pulled away.

Veterans who are currently in the process of receiving assistance are now facing uncertainty as the program winds down. Reports indicate that some veterans were only notified of the decision at the last minute, leaving them little time to make alternate arrangements.

“I’ve been depending on this program to keep my home, and now it’s gone. I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said one veteran affected by the program’s termination.

Now you see it, now you don’t.

The grubermint giveth and the grubermint taketh away. Don’t really know much about this program…or the individual cases of the vets that were a part of it. Howsome ever…We, The People were put on the hook to bail out, car manufacturers, big banks, scamming “Green Energy” Companies (can you say Solyndra(sp)?), and various an assorted welfare queens, foreign grubermints and so on. We have a responsibility to look after “The Veteran, his(her) Widow, and the Orphan Children”.

I didn’t think the VA should be involved in mortgages from the start. The VA has had a program to help veterans get/offer VA backed loans. But the loans were through banks who processed and serviced them. Any difficulties in repayment was handled by the loan company. Default was backed by the VA. Loans could be obtained at lower rates and points eliminated for certain veterans.
Last year the VA got directly involved in helping veterans avoid default on loans by providing assistance. That should have been the banks job. I didn’t think it was sustainable for the VA, and now it’s going to affect veterans who would have lost their homes, but didn’t initially due to VA intervention. Nice idea, but it’s not The VA’s roll. Medical care is what the VA is supposed to do.

Oh, so the VA home loan program that has been around since WWII shouldn’t exist?

I wonder how many of your upvotes used the VA home loan benefit. I wonder if you did.

Read it again. Better yet, have someone else read it to you. He didn’t say that.

Graybeard

Lars, how in the hail did you get through Bezerkly without reading for comprehension?

I would have failed you and sent you to remedial classes.

Jimbojszz

I paid cash. You’re still a dipshit. And I never said get rid of VA backed loans. I said the VA should not act as the banker. Typical demon-rat reading abilities.

I know someone directly effected by this. He contracted sepsis after a steroid shot last summer and has been in a wheelchair ever since dealing with surgeries and other associated care. This guy has worked hard his whole life as a machinist and has volunteered literally thousands of hours on top of that mentoring youth. Now he might end up homeless.

I do wonder why they cancelled the program? Normally that happens when the unfunded costs explode. When Michelle Obama helped create a tuition assistance program for military spouses back in 2009 it went from a few million a quarter to tens of billions in less than a year so they pulled the rug out from underneath the spouses.

Jimbojszz

I think the exploding cost of this program also killed it. No one bothered to look at the failure rate of the program and add the numbers up before starting an unsustainable program.

Green Thumb

Mixed emotions on this one.

Back in 1972 I took my VA loan certificate to the bank to get a construction loan. The loan officer told me ” We haven’t made one of those loans in many years.” I eventually did get a loan from another bank without any VA assistance.
I never set foot in that first bank again.

Roh-Dog

Lots of people not paying their notes and getting propped up by other people’s money.

Millions by this program and FHA, getting loan extensions with high interest with prices at record highs.

Time to shake the tree and unass the rotten fruits.

Graybeard

I also have mixed feelings about this program, however

the manner in which this is being handled is typical (IMHO) VA scr3wU to our vets. Fair warning of changes to programs that folks are depending upon (whether they ought to or not) is a virtue that the VA (and most gubbmint offenses offices) lacks.

Commissar

This was cancelled by the Trump administration without warning.

Graybeard

An event which occurs during an administration is not, necessarily, thereby and action of that administration.

There are alternate possibilities, the ability to consider said possibilities constitutes mature thinking.

It may be true that the cancellation is in line with the money saving efforts of the Trump administration, yet the nature of the execution of the action may be attributable to others not in the Trump administration.

That is only one of several different possibilities.

Jimbojszz

Your god Biden was spending money like a drunk in a whore house. Trump was forced to stop all this crazy spending by the demon-rats. Lars we can’t afford everything your dipshit party thinks up.
