Thursday updates
Remember Jack Texeira? He was the Air Force computer tech who illicitly accessed, copied, and posted thousands of pages of classified information online. At least in chain-of-command terms, his arrest may have caused record fallout – not only was pretty much his entire chain of command relieved, even his unit was removed from the mission they were working.
A defense official confirmed to ABC News that Teixeira remains on active duty in the Air Force and could face U.S. military charges after the civilian criminal charges have been adjudicated. As a Massachusetts Air National guardsman, he had been placed on Title 10 active duty status in the Air Force, which would determine if Teixeira should also face military criminal charges.
On this set of charges alone, his guilty plea makes him eligible for a 16 year sentence of which he must serve 11. Note in the quoted paragraph that he hasn’t even faced a military court yet. Here’s hoping for life. ABC
And of course we all are familiar with the raging debate about whether a baby is REALLY born male, female, or some version of confused. Biologically, as far as I know the norm runs to XX chromosomes or XY – with the very few outliers so rare as to hardly count.
A West Virginia bill that would outlaw non-binary gender designations on birth certificates is headed to the desk of Gov. Jim Justice.
The Republican governor hasn’t spoken publicly about the bill. Justice, who is running for U.S. Senate, previously signed laws restricting gender-affirming care for minors and transgender children’s participation in sports.
The state’s only LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, Fairness West Virginia, opposes the legislation, calling it discriminatory.
Me, I think you are one or the other, and whatever you choose to be or want to screw is neither any business of mine nor worth making a fuss over and I applaud WV for codifying it. I was surprised to see that a dozen states disagree (bet naming 10 out of 12 would not be much of a challenge.)
West Virginia doesn’t currently allow non-binary gender markers on birth certificates. The bill’s sponsor, Republican Del. Chris Pritt, said he wanted to ensure the state doesn’t start offering the option in the future.
Non-binary people identify as not strictly male or female. At least a dozen states offer some form of third gender ID on birth certificates.
Go ahead, claim your kid is some form of other. Be prepared to pay for a DNA test proving it, though, or just put up with the normal cameltoe/dingledangle split the rest of us have for the last few eons.
And remember when Colorado was sane?
In an 8-0 vote, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) green-lit regulations that prohibit gas-powered lawn and garden equipment from being used on public property statewide.
“I always want to ensure that our state government is leading by example when it comes to pressing issues like the housing crisis, workforce and job creation, and now we are doubling down on our commitment to lead the way in reducing pollution,” Polis said after signing the order in September. “We are doing our part to save people money, protect water and our planet.” Fox
According to one advocate this is so yo aren’t subject to nasty noise or fumes when you go to the park. Want to bet private usage is next? I’m sure laying out the (serious) coin for a new mower will be a pleasure for you.

So, the buddy fucker gets 16 years of all the buddy fucking he wants.
That little baby face traitor will be well received in prison, I bet.
Squeel like a pig…
Say boy, you got a real purty mouth
Yeah, he’s going to be doing a lot of “receiving” in the gray bar motel.
“…prohibits gas powered lawn and garden equipment…”
What are they going to use? Sheep? Self fertilizing.
solar powered lawn mowers. Who mows on a cloudy day?
Only draw back is the panel is bigger than a sheet of plywood
and you would need more than one.
Goats and sheep would actually be a good solution If water were available.
Where I live, the state right of way extends from the edge of the road to the top of the backside of the ditch or to the power/telephone poles as a rough guide, but generally 30 ft from the center of the road. There are home and business owners who like to claim its state property so let the state mow it. Those same people are the first to call with sight distance complaints because the weeds get too tall to see over as it blocks their view pulling/backing from their driveways or the weeds are blocking the signage to their business.
We did 3 mows per year, 2 15′ mows and 1 mow out, where we mowed to the edge of the right of way.
I don’t see this law lasting very long at all as it definitely won’t make Colorado beautiful.
Agent Orange. It’s the only thing that will kill Coltsfoot.
Add some Hyvar with it and nothing will grow again for years.
By the way, is the AQCC an elected position or an appointed position. Does Colorado allow agencies to just make laws or will this have to be approved through their house/senate?
Standard utility company “Practice” (Ma Bell’s version of ARs) is to place all Outside Plant within the back 5′ of the RoW. Some folks claim their yard goes to the edge of the pavement. Nope, no way, no how, in most locales. Our plats would show the RoW (from the center line) AND property parameters. Folks would plant all manner of trees, shrubs, etc in the RoW and then raise hell when we had to trim the crap back to clear the way for placing new cables or replacing cables that had been damaged by said plantings. Utility companies pay a fee to DOT, and to the city/county for the use of RoW. In some cases, the utility company has bought the RoW from waaaay back yonder. You can bet $ that where ever you see a sign stating “cable route” that strip of dirt was bought and paid for, in some cases, going all the way back to the FIRST (ht2 CW) Telegraph Lines.
Again, now that the mishandling of classified docs has been declared to be unlawful, when will we see Bitcherly and Sniffy Joe brought up on charges?
CO going all Colonel Shivington on ICE equipment? (IYKYK) Or all “Little” Phil?
IDGAF what you want to “identify” as, but would you please just leave the kids out of it? That would be great.
Cable TV companies have some of the laziest installers you will ever see. Instead of burying the cable through the yard and under a driveway, some find it easier to run the cable through the culvert. All well and good until culvert needs replaced or cleaned.
You being able to watch TV, or your neighbors for that matter are SOL if that culvert needed replaced. We didn’t hold up the job waiting for the cable company to move the line.
As far as pedo Joe, or cankles being charged, don’t hold your breath.
Yep, and I’m well familiar with them sorry, lazy, good for nothing, take no pride in their work installers. Fought their crap for decades. Most of ’em are contract employees and they just don’t give a damn. I used to keep an assortment of CATV type connectors on my T-40 Series fone truck just to move their crap out of the way, more as a service to the homeowner than to help the CATV Company out. We had a good working relationship with the Prime Contractor that did the contract work for their trunk lines/distribution plant. The owner of that outfit was old school, do it right, no nonsense, good guy.
The Highest Authority of all will sit in Judgement and His Vengeance will be epic.
An electric robotic mower that will mow my whole yard while I sit on the couch and drink beer and watch baseball is actually cheaper than I paid for my last mower and other than sharpening blades is pretty much maintenance free.
That being said, state properties are huge and trying to use currently available electric equipment to service them really isn’t practical.
Each Spring I buy a new gas powered mower that is narrow
enough to fit between shrubs. Manual but with front wheel drive.
Raise the cutting height to max, add octane booster to the fuel
and beat the shit out of it all summer. Never sharpen the blade.
I’ll buy another one in May and the old one goes to the scrap
metal pile at the recycler so I’m doing my part…
I used to have a lot more acreage than the one acre lot that I have now at my primary residence. So I purchased a high speed commercial grade 72″ Toro about 11 years ago. One of the spindles went bad about 7 years ago (under warranty), the carburetor needed rebuilt about 3 years ago, but since then you can’t kill the thing.
It just seems superfluous to be running fuel jugs all summer. Mowing the yard is kind of a time waster as well. But with that huge deck running at 7 miles an hour it only takes me about 20 minutes to mow an acre. But I keep thinking than having the robot do it is cheaper and doesn’t cost any time.
Bought an electric mower at Sears over 20 years ago for my .29 acre yard. After 4 years of use, I had to split my mowing over 4 days to allow for overnight recharging. Had the same Husqvarna gas mower ever since.
The ATF Form 4473 has a block for non-binary. I’ve seen one person check that block. I was checking the form status in the back, saw the gender identification, and tactfully called the Outfitter on the gun line to let them know they needed to confirm the ID matched the gender. I wasn’t being an ass, kept it as professional as I did when the DADT chapter case came to me to reenlist in 2011, and simply wanted to ensure there were no issues when I did my final check.
Sure enough, I went out for the final and the form had been changed. It wasn’t coaching or anything, just a question clarifying the accuracy of the Transferee’s (no pun intended) identity. She (a very effeminate dude with a whisp of facial hair) had decided that she identified as a female that day, due to her license reflecting such. I never thought that the possible refusal of a gun transfer could affect gender so easily.
To me, there’s men and women, girls and boys, males and females, buns and hotdogs. I’m polite and don’t try to insult or anger strangers in real life, so I’ll give as much respect as I get if faced with someone… different. That said, I find that avoiding the ambiguous types is best. By the early 2010s we were already getting Soldiers that were very androgynous. If you see an officer you don’t recognize with a high and tight and boyish face, briskly walk away before you have to salute and address them. It’s a 50/50 shot–“Sir” or “Ma-am”. Get it wrong and you might be reporting to the CSM’s office within minutes.
PFC: “First to fight, sir!”
(Very butch fireplug MAJ Shreiking) “DO I LOOK LIKE A G..D.. MAN, PRIVATE!?!?”
“Yes maam!”
(Spazzout)
LT:”First to fight, sir.”
(Nuclear detonation at LT, PFC fades…)
Still funny, all these decades later. Somewhere there is an LT I owe a beer.
I didn’t use the Bad Boy but so much last year. In a month or two, though, I’m getting the overhead cover and rollbar (needed for the cover, there isn’t much elevation down here in the Pelican State) with a goal of cutting the grass at least every two weeks.
Electric is cool–or not. Batteries heat up quick in the sun. I have the EGO 21″ mower, backpack blower, hedge trimmer, and string trimmer. I still use the hell out of the string trimmer (relatively speaking) but rarely use the other OPE. I also have the DeWalt 20v Max 12″ chainsaw I used to cut part of a tree down with a few weeks back, as well as their string trimmer, hedge trimmer, and blowers. There’s at least $50k in cordless tools and batteries sitting around the house and garage now. So, I like cordless tools and OPE, and I really appreciate the advances in technology.
That said, I looked at the EGO ZTR mower. For twice what I paid for my Bad Boy, I could have just enough battery power to mow my acre four times with fully charged batteries. Factoring in the 100+ summer temps and my innate ability to abuse everything I own, and I might be spending $3600 on batteries every few years. I’ll think I’ll stick to gas for the mower…
The trick I hear is to let the mower run at night. The robot doesn’t need to see, so it being dark doesn’t mean anything. A good lithium battery should last about 7 years.
Maybe they can use that conviction as the legal precedent to go back and address Clinton’s handling of classified docs a little bit more appropriately.
Let’s not forget Joe Biden’s staff. Who he said took a bunch of classified documents and threw them in a closet and his garage
He may be active duty Air Force at the moment, but he doesn’t have a listing in the Air Force GAL. And for those keeping track at home, Aaron Bushnell, despite being dead for several weeks, still has an account as of 10:00 this morning.
So in Colorado since “gas powered” is banned from being used on public property, it is hoped they mean literally!
Battery powered systems on average run for about 90-120 minutes before recharge is needed (or swap). Hopefully they recognize that diesel is not “gas” and they can cut their road sides with a good five series tractor pulling a batt-wing or brush hog! Otherwise there will be an awful lot of overgrown road sides in Colorado!
Think wildfires in eastern Colorado, just like Texas panhandle is experiencing now. Lots of fuel to support one if they don’t mow. I feel this will be a short lived rule.
DENVER (KDVR) — State agencies in Colorado will be banned from using certain gas-powered lawn equipment during the summer, according to a new rule adopted by the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission.
The rule applies from June to August. During this time, state agencies will not be allowed to use gas-powered lawn equipment with engines of 25 horsepower or less.
The new regulation also prohibits the use of gas-powered push lawnmowers and other lawn equipment under 10 horsepower on other public property within the Denver metro and north Front Range ozone nonattainment area.
Bet the capital building is exempt.
Just in… John Kerry says people would feel better about the war in Ukraine if Russia just tightened up on its carbon emissions:
