Oakland jewelry store owner opens fire on armed robbers; fed-up merchants seek emergency meeting with police
By Kelsi Thorud
An attempted armed robbery that ended in a gun battle between the suspects and the owner of a jewelry store has shaken those who live and work in an Oakland neighborhood so much that they are calling for an emergency meeting with police and their local council member.Just after 10 a.m. Monday morning, employees of MSM Jewelry at International Boulevard and 42nd Avenue were walking in, preparing to open the shop for the day when two suspects burst through the door, guns drawn.
The owner of the store said he shot at the suspects, and they fired back multiple times in an incident captured on security camera video. No one in the store was hurt, but the owner said he may have hit one of the suspects.
This is just the latest in a string of violent armed robberies in the city’s Fruitvale District.
Oakland City Councilman Noel Gallo said it’s gotten so bad, that local merchants are calling for an emergency meeting with city officials.
“To express their concern, but we’re working with the police captain for the area. We did assign ongoing officers on a daily basis. We do have ambassadors in the violence prevention program,” said Gallo.

No arrest after police say self defense used in SW OKC shooting death

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City police have identified the man killed in the city’s second homicide of the year.
Officers said 55-year-old Marvin Thomas was killed Monday at a shooting inside SW 29th Street Motors, a business that sells cars and does repairs. Gates surrounding the building were locked Tuesday.
Officers received a 911 call of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. Monday night.
“Homicide detectives just got on the scene and they’re conducting their investigation right now,” said Sgt. Rob Robertson, moments after police arrived at the business.
The investigation uncovered Thomas had been shot twice.
“Turns out, that person that was shot arrived at the business, got into some type of altercation with another person inside,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, spokesperson for the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Police said Thomas walked into the dealership and got into a fight with an employee over a business deal. That was when Thomas reportedly pulled out a knife.

The customer is always right until he pulls a knife. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.
These are the times that try men’s souls.

Perps opened their eyes when the store owner gave them a big surprise by fighting back. In such a hurry to take care of pressing business else where, perp left his weapon on the floor.
Yep, the customer was right…dead right.
Mr. Paine saw the future and it is now.
The 99…A weapon to calm the Savage Breast. Better than music when playing a swan song.
Much though I am a fan of John Mahnon Marlin, the 99 is arguably the best and slickest-running lever gun ever made.
Smooth as a ’73 and loads more power and range available.
When you tell the criminal element that stealing is now legal up to an arbitrary dollar amount you should not be surprised when the criminal realizes NO ONE is auditing the theft take for exceeding the limit. To them all stealing is now legal. It’s up to the shops to defend themselves or simply close the doors. There is no law requiring a business operate in the PDRK (peepuls demokratik repugnant of kaliphonya)
Forget discussing with the po-po. They take their marching orders from the elected and appointed political beasts, not you, the store owner.
Instead, form your own local store owners mutual self-protection “club”. Anyone can join.
Very few requirements….owning a gun, keeping it loaded & in the store, and willing & able to use it being a few of them.
If you hear shooting, send someone out (with the gun) willing to assist in the detaining of the perps (up to and including shooting, once the targets are clearly ID’d).
Call the po-po ONLY after all the fussin’ & shootin’ is done & the bodies are counted.
(or….DON’T call the po-po and dispose of the bodies in a dumpster…call for immediate pick up. this would fall under The Four Esses #3 “shovel” and #4 “shut up”)
DON’T listen to the “tut-tutting” of those who will scold you “leave the protection to the professionals”.
There’s strength and safety in numbers.
Way past time to go Rooftop Korean.
I know a lot of farmers up here in Minnesota, who have very large farms, that need oodles of fertilizer….
Jus’ sayin’…
I have my great grandfather’s deer rifle it just happens to be a Savage Model 99 in .303 Savage. Anytime I go to a gun show I try to find ammo for it. I haven’t had much luck in the last decade. Luckily I have the makings to load my own.
Its been in my possession for the last quarter century but I have never shot it even when it was in my grandfathers and fathers possesion.
.303 Savage is spendy but available on-line.
