Here’s the irony about affirmative action. Joe Biden said his running mate will be a Black woman. However, if you merely suggest that Kamala Harris got the job as VP because she is Black and a woman – somehow you are racist and sexist… but Joe Biden isn’t? How does that work?

Biden is on the Right Side of History, if I’m allowed to use the term “Right”. I dunno, maybe the Left Side of History? We all know his mind has mostly left and he’s now a vacant shell, but what’s it matter?
If I acknowledge my peers’ accomplishments but dare to bring up their race, sex, or upbringing, I’m in the wrong. As a conservative heterosexual White male, the only things I should use are preferred pronouns. Biden’s in a different league. He’s more racist than me and from a generation known for its casual racism and lack of acceptance of women as equals, but he’s a (D) and the darling of the political left. My dad lived in DE and was born two years (almost to the day) before Biden. He was a progressive for his time, had Black friends, but wasn’t averse to tossing out an epithet or two. I suspect that Biden, in private, has probably done the same, especially in the company of his ultra-elite Democrat peers. Delware, at least the southern part, is still very much a border state, and I saw more Confederate flags there than I ever saw around Richmond in the ’80s.
Harris got the job because Trump had to be defeated at all costs, and Biden needed to artificially make “history”, kinda like his old boss Barack did winning his Nobel Peace Prize less than a year after becoming America’s First Black President ™. I appreciate the intent. Being disagreeable is not a crime, and the moderator gig here has reaffirmed my trust in leather and Nomex. Something about being a squid on a predominately Army milblog.

A lot of us long-term TAH/VG commenters have grown to appreciate dissenting opinions. We’ve all gotten some disagreement from other long-termers and newbies alike, and I know that in the past 14-odd years since I started visiting, I’ve made some statements that could be attributed to a jackass. Hell, I was a 30-year-old detailed Recruiter way back when, convinced I’d probably make CSM. Since then I’ve been more active at times than at other times, and recently I’m just some disabled retired guy who bitches about stuff and makes long-winded comments.
VG is a little different from TAH; it’s hard to keep the same vibe when the founder passes, and a lot of former Mods and Admins have dropped off. I keep coming here because we keep our own grounded and in check, but band together to dogpile the ones who just come here to troll or insult us.
