Suspect dead after overnight shooting in Merion Village

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A 39-year-old man suspected of assaulting a 19-year-old woman has died after a shooting in south Columbus.Authorities responded to the 1400 block of S. High Street in Merion Village at 12:33 a.m. on Friday after report of an assault, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Officers found Rickey Williams, 39, lying on the front porch unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:51 a.m.
The 19-year-old woman told officers that Williams would not allow her to leave the resident. Police describe the woman as the victim and Williams as the suspect in the incident report.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police are piecing together two related shootings in West Philadelphia that landed a gunman in the hospital.
Investigators tell Action News a gas station security guard witnessed a shooting between a group of people on Vine and 63rd streets just after midnight on Saturday.
Then, officials say a gunman pointed the weapon towards the guard.
Police say the guard opened fire first, striking the gunman once in the face.

Police called the arrest an ‘open and shut case’

A robber in England was sentenced to three years in jail this week for attempted robbery, but it was only thanks to the quick thinking of his victim that he ended up in police custody in the first place.“It wasn’t the most difficult arrest we have ever made. To be honest, it was an open and shut case,” Detective Sergeant Paul Mawson of Durham Constabulary told The Northern Echo.
Martin Trimble, 30, walked into a convenience store last month in Durham City with a knife.
He picked up a four-pack of beer and used his knife to threaten the store owner. Rather than let Trimble walk away, the store owner ran outside and closed the door, holding it tight and trapping his thief inside.

Realizing he was beaten, Trimble cracked open one of the beers he tried to steal and drank it while he waited for the police to take him away.
