Tennessee man charged with felony reckless endangerment after returning fire on armed auto thieves
Suspects who opened fire on man are reportedly still at large
By Andrew Mark Miller | Fox News
A Tennessee man found himself behind bars this week after returning fire at thieves who were trying to steal a van outside his home.A Shelby County man was notified by his surveillance system at around 2 a.m. Saturday that several people were outside his home and using burglary tools in an effort to break into a van, Fox 13 Memphis reported.
After the man walked outside, the thieves fired shots at him as he stood beneath the porch light of his home, according to the outlet.
Security video shows the homeowner and the suspects shooting at each other several times.
The thieves fled the scene and the man went back into his house, but when police arrived, the man’s wife said they began interrogating him.
“When they were talking to him, from what I saw, it was like they were trying to find ways to charge him,” the homeowner’s wife told Fox 13 Memphis.

Deputies say the man told them that he couldn’t clearly see what he was targeting and admitted to firing shots with his eyes closed due to being scared…

Repeat after me: “I was in fear for my life. I fired to stop the threat. I will make a full statement with legal counsel present.”
Then the important part- STFU.
Either you will control your government, or government will control you.

What the shit?! With all due respect from up here in the nosebleeds, Southern Man best stand up and fight to maintain reason down there!!!!!
Two main points:
1) where the fuck were you assholes
&
B) you clown fucks think you coulda done better?!
Ah yes, Memphis. The old DA made the mistakes of sending a BLM leader back to prison for voter fraud as well as supporting anti-abortion laws.
The new DA’S priorities are finding and overturning previous convictions and *fostering restoration and prevention” of what? Isn’t quite clear.
Find them.
Fix them.
Fight them.
Finish them.
Short version:
We win. They lose.
Get some!
Seems to me that if you can’t see the thing, but it’s shooting at you, it’s better to shoot at it in return. And if you can’t see it clearly, since it IS shooting at you, having your eyes closed doesn’t make a difference, as long as you’re slinging lead back at that thing.
Now if you change that concept from homeowner returning fire to Police Officers returning fire like that you would still feel the same??? Or would you be one of the folks claiming they were acting recklessly instead?
Ummm…..po-po are (or should be) better trained in how to handle such situations.
I doubt if Mr Homeowner has had any tactical training, other than gun basic safety. And at tax-payers’ expense.
Sooooo, yeah, I’m going to hold the po-po to a higher standard.
I’ll wait for the defense attorney to find video of cops closing their eyes, or returning fire at an unknown or concealed target. It’s out there. I would have shaken the guys hand instead of arresting him. Weird cops in Tennessee.
All targets are concealed when you close your eyes.
So the home owner will get off the hook as the old saying goes, “Justice is blind”
I would have offered to take up a collection to send Mr Homeowner to a tactical class.
Pray and spray…
It’s not stupid if it works.
Hey, if it hit the bad guy…
Ms Thang looks very nice, but DAY-UM, pull down that t-shirt and cover up that muffin top.
Or, better yet, remove all restrictive clothing that’s creating that muffin top.
I wouldn’t kick’r outta bed for eating lumpia.
I’d top that muffin…and restrict her from wearing clothing! (I’ll put myself in time-out, OAM.)
Standing under the spot lite while repelling boarders was his first mistake. Not having a massively powerful torch to spot lite said boarders was his second. Firing blindly is just careless in the extreme. This is the home place we are talking about. Should have a better defensive plan in place. Cone of return fire should have focused on the threat , not the neighborhood. A motion lite on the driveway would be a good improvement..
None of the comments address the real issue. Despite apparently zero practical forethought, shockingly brazen thugs and stormtrooper questioning tactics at least he brought a gun to a gunfight used it and survived.
That’s a win right there.
His probability of drawing blood from the thugs instead of his neighbors would be greatly higher if was at least somewhat prepared. Once again, this is the home place.
Another incident where a lady was in the shower and she heard a knock at the door and yells, whose there and a voice yells out “Blind Man” so she runs out of the shower without any clothes on and picks up a couple of bucks for a donation and when she opens the door, the man says where do you want these blinds hung lady.

Shelby county – Memphis. No surprise there. I lived there for three years back in the late ’80’s and it was already a liberal stronghold in an otherwise very conservative state.
When he’s convicted, a pardon from the governor wouldn’t surprise me.
Of course by then his finances, reputation and life will already be ruined.
The process is the punishment.
Stand your ground and castle doctrine be damned, there are those politically driven prosecutors and cops who will stop at nothing to see an innocent man go to prison for daring to use a firearm–especially against a protected class of person. No idea of the race or declared gender of the
victimarmed and dangerous aggressor orthievesvictims but daring to attempt to thwart someone from rightfully taking their well-earned goods (in this case a van) is absolutely not permitted in some parts of this country. He should have walked out with a few Bud Lights to let them refresh themselves before handing over the keys and thanking them for his upcoming insurance claim. Not all of us have military or LEO training and experience, and even those of us who do cannot really say how we’d react in a similar situation, but I think this guy made two major mistakes: closing his eyes (scared or not, you can’t effectively engage a target without a good sight picture) and silhouetting himself with his porch light. The charges should be dropped with the caveat that he attends a tactical pistol and/or rifle course.
