Worker in Chile disappears after being paid 330 times his normal pay
Old news, but something the occurs everywhere. A worker in Chile received the equivalent of $180,418 in May when he was supposed to just get the equivalent of $545. He notified his manager, who informed human resources. However, instead of going to his bank so that he could return the extra money, he disappeared.

A worker in Chile submitted his resignation and could not be found after his job accidentally paid him about 330 times his salary because of a payroll error, according to reports.
The worker, a dispatch assistant at cold meats manufacturer Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos, received a paycheck of 165,398,851 Chilean pesos, or $180,418, for the month of May. He was only supposed to be paid about 500,000 Chilean pesos, or $545.
The worker initially alerted his manager of the massive overpayment, according to local media outlet Diario Financiero.
The manager would then report the issue to human resources, who asked the worker to go to his bank and return the extra money.
He agreed to go to the bank the next day, but kept the money and ignored communications from his employer over the next few days.
The man then offered his resignation through a letter sent to the company by his attorney. The worker has not been heard from since, Diario Financiero reported.

Welp, if he can live with his conscience, and looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life, I guess I can too. Not sure if it’s exactly stealing, after all, the company did cut him a check. And the bank cashed it. Still, it ain’t honest. YMMV
It is also a crime, unless Chilean law has ignored this type of wrongdoing.

The same thing happened to a proud but humble woman owned business that sells software to the federal government formerly located in Bethesda Maryland. The President of the company, a woman named Elaine Ricci, got a paycheck that actually cleared the bank. She took the $14 out of her account, and no one has seen her since.

A President of a government supplier with only $14 in her account? She couldn’t have gotten far.
That was the only time the corporate account had a positive balance.

Exact same thing happened to my great-great grandpappy in 1880. He was working in the coal mine as an 8-year old (was a year away from losing his job for being too old).
Anyway, he was paid a DIME instead of two cents. Split town and no one ever heard from him again.
