Nancy Pelosi on Sunday clinched enough votes in the House of Representatives to secure her fourth term as House speaker.
The California Democrat, who has led her party in the House since 2003 and is the only woman to be speaker, had been widely expected to retain her post. Pelosi received 216 votes to 209 for Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who again will be the chamber’s minority leader.
Earlier, 427 members announced themselves as present — 220 Democrats and 207 Republicans. Pelosi needed a majority, or 214 votes, to return as speaker, meaning that she could afford to lose just six Democratic votes.

As to the bigger question, I’m also not a Democrat. Not sure why I should have to defend them. I support whoever I think is ‘better’ at every election, regardless of party. Although ‘better’ is, sadly, often synonymous with ‘less horrible’.

We as Americans love a simple two party system, and simple black and white politics as if that were ever the case in reality. It’s why we’re so easily managed by our betters.
I’ve always thought it would be great if we had a two party system. Haven’t seen that lately, though. Seems that everyone up in Washington these days is a member of the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp party.
I think the confusion is because you only seem to criticize one party while defending the other one. The reason for that perception may just be because so many people that comment here that you are replying to are on the right side of the aisle.
If anyone was wondering, no they haven’t yet had enough. It is my fondest hope we are about to witness the end of the Democrat party. My fear is how much damage they will do between now and then, emboldened as they are for now.

I have news for everyone. A theoretical majority of American adults is completely dependent on government welfare programs. BLS estimate is that 52% of all households have no wage earner at all.
Let that sink in. The insiders in DC have created a nation of dependency and moral squalor.
If the Democrats were the only party to this, that would be bad enough. But let’s be honest about the Republicans. They are also part of the problem.
There are no conservative or libertarian parties in power (and I include the Libertarian Party and Constitutional Party here). Only leftist parties. The real difference between the two is not political, but who the cronies to be paid off are. They are all big tax and big welfare parties.
Until American working class people reject both parties and unite under a libertarian banner, nothing can change. What we have witnessed since 2001 is the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the elites since the USSR or perhaps King Louis.
Which is why both parties wanted Trump out of office.
And that is why a record number of Citizens voted him in for a second term.
I am done with both parties until they remove their special interest ticks from our hides.
From now on, whenever possible, I will operate outside the US Dollar system with its mechanisms of; taxation without representation, welfare servitude, and monopolistic tech control programming.

1) Trump forming a new party to steal sane Americans from the left-and-right-boot Uniparty.
2) Trump buying or starting a media business to rival the uniparty Media cheerleaders we currently have.

I would concur, although that number might be pretty close were one to consider the percentage of Americans/households who have a net zero or negative federal tax burden, and that includes SS/Medicare withholdings.

Assuming Ms. Pelosi is a weak minded fool is the mistake a great many of her foes make, and one she encourages. Republicans and members of the “squad” alike all assume she’s not all that sharp, while the “squad” also assumes she no longer represents the future of the party.
She’s not only smart she’s rather adept at navigating the national political stage in her role as number 3 to the throne.
The squad’s young and naive members think they have some sort of handle on the whole nation, they barely have a handle on their own understanding of economics and politics…Pelosi meanwhile understands the gritty ugly nature of politics and is more than willing to play that chess match far beyond the capabilities of her rivals.
One must learn to respect the intellect of their opponents lest they be blinded to the reality that opponent’s ability to forge alliances and obtain success.
Pelosi will remain speaker, all the while continuing to ruin the house procedural rules. Her legacy will be one that other Democrats will come to regret when they lose the house in the mid-terms. The continuing nonsense of the “majority of the majority” rule under her speakership has resulted in less ability to bring anything to a floor vote…
As much as people disliked John Boehner at least he had the ability to let legislation come to the floor even if a majority of his party disapproved of that legislation.
Some times the work of the people supersedes your notions of “party” loyalty and should be secondary to loyalty to the people and the nation…
Pelosi’s decision to not allow any bills from the floor at all over the last four years will be remembered by Republicans and will be done to the Democrats when a Republican once again becomes speaker.
