Missing Men

| August 2, 2020

On a recent training run at San Diego, an AAV vehicle lost several of its crew members. The search went on for 40 hours, but they have not yet been found and are presumed dead.

From the article:

The seven Marines and one sailor who’ve been missing since their amphibious assault vehicle sank in the Pacific Ocean on Thursday are believed to be dead, ending an extensive 40-hour search-and-rescue mission.

Officials with the 15th Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit announced early Sunday that leadership determined little likelihood the service members survived the accident. Sixteen troops with that unit were in the AAV during amphibious training near San Clemente Island when their vehicle began filling with water off San Diego’s coast.

Training in anything like this is extremely dangerous. There is no way to be prepared for something as drastic as losing this many people to a training accident.

Que vayan con Dios.

Was hoping this would have a better outcome, when this story popped up in the comments the other day. I would imagine these things sink pretty damn fast when they start taking on water.

RIP Devil Dogs and may God’s Peace bring His Comfort to the Families and Compatriots.

Another example of the fact that training for war can be and is as dangerous as the war itself.

Prayers for the families and friends.

Been following that story. Very sad.
Hope they can be recovered and those
who dared rescue are comforted in their grief.

Ugh.
A construction ship with a simple hook should be able to bring it up.
It won’t be pleasant.
RIP US Marines.
RIP Sailor.
