I typed in my old FD unit 405 new cases and hit the enter button and a number of states were claiming 405 new covid cases. I hit another 3 digit number and the same thing happened. WTF is going on. Try it.
With 50 states, of various populations, and over 100 days into this mess, I would expect that nearly every 3 digit number would show up, from the reporting of this, or that, state, on this, or that, date.
Exactly. This is a product of two things – one, how search engines work, and two, the simple statistical likelihood of there being a 3-digit number of cases given the 100+ days and 1000+ newspapers (let alone news channels/websites).
Now, had a given number shown up in 100+ sites all for the same day, that’s where you’d start getting into statistically questionable things. But it doesn’t. Pick a number, you’ll see different dates, in different places. That’s just the law of large numbers at play.
You’re not wrong, LC. However, I think distinctions should be made between “possible,” “plausible,” and “probable.”
If we had the details on how many news sites are indexed by Google, and assumed an even distribution (which it won’t be, but still, it’s a start), we could calculate the probabilities. Even at just the newspapers (estimated at 1279 in 2018 per Statista), and 100 days (for a nice round number), that gives 127900 unique places. If only one tenth are giving COVID data headlines about cases, which seems really low, then that’s still 12,790 individual news items that Google indexes.
There’s 900 three-digit numbers available, so that’s an average of 14 sites, from our one-tenth-of-newspapers, with the same number. Which Google, being a good search engine, will try to find.
You can play with the numbers, but I’d say it’s all very probably you’ll find a three-digit number pop up in a coronavirus headline. I’d also bet if we did higher numbers we’d find fewer stories – far fewer places will have had 999 new cases, for example, than 30 new cases.
We’re obviously in agreement, I just thought additional context makes it definitely seem ‘probable’ (for small 3-digit numbers), ‘plausible’ for higher ones, with fewer matches, and possible is a given.

The ones with the letters, I used the corresponding number that the letter was to the sequence on the Qwerty. I laffed and laffed, cause each one did indeed bring up stories from around the world. The last one I did was one of the chill’ens birthday. Not only did it give COVID #s it gave this picture. I laffed and laffed some more.

Of course, that was in June, over a month ago, and it was in Afghanistan, so I don’t know if that counts for anything in this match-mismatch game.

After you hit enter Look at the date for that number. I hit 777 and the dates showed from May to July for a variety of states. Any three digit random number Will show up in Most states for any random date. Nothing to see here. Now the probable Positives being counted as positives has been going on for a while as well. Gateway pundit had an article about Texas doing it in May so no wonder there numbers ares rising. They also count retests as well. One elderly relative was tested positive for covid the Nursing home retested that individual 11 plus times and counted it as a new case each time. Notice it is only happening in red states.
What Chicom flu is in actuality is a huge money sop as politicians take money away from us to spend on protecting themselves and making themselves look like they actually know what they are doing so you’ll vote for them again…

All these “new” cases are mostly “old” – folks tested as having antibodies from prior exposures or prior no-big-deal illness.
The deaths are dwindling fast. The death -rate- is now at or below “seasonal flu”, with a skew -way- towards Seniors.
The median age of death is -78-. Meaning -half- of all deaths are -over- that age.Absent the disastrous decisions in Deep Blue cities to push SARS2 patients into nursing homes, we have 1/3 less deaths.
So all this fuss was pointless, unless you are trying to wreck the USA.
