Couple Charged With Defacing Black Lives Matter Mural

The reality? BLM’s leadership is a radical left organization. (imgflip.com/The Donald Win)

A resident received a permit from the local government to paint a temporary “Black Lives Matter” on the street in Contra Costa County. After the resident completed the task, a couple came up and placed black paint over their work. The county district attorney is bringing up charges against the couple. These charges include a violation of civil rights.

From CBS SF Bay Area:

Both defendants have been charged with the following alleged offenses:

Violation of Civil Rights
Vandalism Under $400
Possession of Tools to Commit Vandalism or Graffiti

There have been additional incidents at the site of the mural since the vandalism. On Sunday evening, a 30-year-old Martinez man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a loaded firearm and possession of a loaded and concealed weapon after an argument with another person at the downtown mural, police said.

Witnesses told police the suspect Joseph Osuna yelled, “All lives matter” as he drove past the mural. Police said Osuna then stopped, got out of his vehicle and started arguing with one person in a group at the mural site. During the argument, police said, Osuna brandished a .22 caliber revolver at that person. Police later found that revolver to be loaded.

If convicted, the two defendants charged Tuesday face up to a year in county jail. The alleged offenses are exempt from a specific bail amount due to the current county bail schedule in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  1. Hack Stone says:

So there appears to be good vandalism and bad vandalism. And before someone jumps on Hack saying the people who painted the BLM slogan had a permit, the people painting over were making their own political statement, and even though they did not have a permit, let’s just file it under civil disobedience.

    • thebesig says:

The statues that were toppled? Protected by statute. Let’s see which one outrages the left and which one isn’t as much of a concern to them.

      • Hack Stone says:

How many people need to be “offended” before it is justified to tear down a statue? If it is just one, then with little effort you could find someone offended by MLK, so should that be coming down?

  2. 5th/77th FA says:

Hmmm, painting over a yellow letter with black paint is a hate crime, but spray painting a War Memorial, burning down building, looting stores, and attacking white folks is not?

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

    • Anonymous says:

It’s okay when Leftists do it or something… Democrats and their “mostly peaceful” protests said so.

  3. SgtBob says:

Many references to the incident refer to the BLM paint as “a mural.” That makes it more legal than “Letters painted on a street.”

  4. Slow Joe says:

It seems the backslash on the communist agitators using poor black people as an excuse for the revolution has started.

  5. George V says:

I guess we’re all livin’ down on the farm now, as defined by Mr. Orwell. All animals are created equal, but some are more equal. This is definite proof.

  6. Keepin' It Real says:

You owe it to yourself to watch civil rights legend Bob Woodson on civil rights movements. He eventually left the Civil Rights Movement over it being hijacked.

Woodson contends that poor Black families were exploited to raise awareness and once that was accomplished, there was a need to keep them poor.

    https://www.foxnews.com/transcript/bob-woodson-on-supporting-high-achieving-families-in-low-income-communities-countering-ny-times-1619-project

“Well, when I was active in the Civil Rights Movement as a young worker, we were seeking opportunity for people to achieve, but the Civil Rights Movement, I think part of the company, when they used what I call a bait and switch game, they used the demographics of low-income blacks as the bait, and when money arrived, the switch occurred.

And so they began to exploit the people.

    [lines deleted]

And so what I have sought is to help low-income people to become empowered. And so that’s why I departed the company with the Civil Rights Movement.

Also when the poverty programs came, I knew that this was a scam. See, in 1960, when the government starts spending $22 trillion, 70 cents of every dollar did not go to the poor, it went to those who served the poor. They asked not which problems are solvable, but which ones are fundable.

And so what happened is we’ve created a commodity out of poor people. And so, as a consequence, there were no incentives to solve problems of the poor because the careers of those serving them were dependent upon having people to serve.

And that’s why in the black community, you’ve seen the families disintegrate over the last 50 years, when prior — but a hundred years prior to that, black families were intact.

We have a whole history of a hundred years when black families left slavery, 80 percent of all those black families had a man and a woman raising children. And this family composition continued generation after generation.

But in the ’60s, that changed because of government policies. There was a deliberate attempt on the part of Cloward and Piven at the university — Columbia University. They said one of the ways that we can emphasize the contradictions of capitalism is to separate work from income. It will make the father redundant.

And so that’s what the poverty programs and welfare programs did, separate wealth from income. Make the father redundant. And so, the nuclear family was redefined as Eurocentric, and therefore irrelevant. Christian faith was demeaned.”

  7. OWB says:

Technically, I do agree that defacing a permitted display should be prosecuted. That principle should also apply to everybody who does so.

Seriously – this is NOT complicated. Arson should be prosecuted, as should all the assorted vandalism we have been forced to observe in the past couple of months. Doesn’t matter your “cause,” your ethnicity, your age or anything else other than you violated the law. Prosecute them all.

You can’t have equal justice until you have equal accountability.

    • Retired Grunt says:

I agree that if it was a permitted display then they need to be prosecuted for vandalism just like everybody else should be prosecuted for vandalism but a hate crime? I think not… I don’t even agree with the term hate speech there is idiotic speech but unfortunately and also quite fortunately it’s protected by the 1st amendment even when it’s stupid.

  8. ArmyATC says:

So, the couple were charged with vandalizing BLM’s vandalism? Somehow I doubt BLM received permission to sling paint on a public highway.

  9. Retired Grunt says:

    Good luck getting a conviction…. a hate crime… i quit

  10. Arby says:

Whenever I see a story such as this, I google the name of the the district attorney and “soros” (i.e., “Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton soros”) I was not surprised when I found http://contracostaherald.com/05271801cch/ Just another soros lackey.

  11. Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman says:

Were the couple “defacing” the BLM “mural” caught (other than on video, while wearing masks)?
If not caught, I hope they stay not caught.

    • Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman says:

Damn! I just watched the video. She’s NOT wearing a mask. Too easy to ID. There goes that fantasy.

  12. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

BUTbutbut painting things like “Kill whitey”, “Die pig” and “kill the pigs” is just fine because it was done by someone identifying as an “oppressed class” thus making them more equal in an Orwellian universe.

  13. Comm Center Rat says:

Hopefully, these two “painters” will lose their day jobs because their hate is real and their stupid is heavy.

    • Retired Grunt says:

Oh, ffs….. lose their jobs, Seriously…. I tell you what I’m retired Why don’t you go ahead and write the guy at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue… And tell him how much I don’t deserve my pension anymore….

    • Retired Grunt says:

Right now certain groups are only calling for the elimination of police pensions… Don’t worry my marxist friend soon enough no pension will be safe especially the military since we promote all of the violence and evil across the globe that the United States has dealt. Given the fact that certain elements in the United States Congress want to give away every benefit that I joined the army to get for free, no one will serve.

      • Comm Center Rat says:

As a Capitalist I encourage all business owners and employers to take swift action to terminate workers who potentially reduce profitability through disgraceful public acts. As an investor in publicly traded company stocks share price growth is the bottom line.

As a military retiree myself I don’t give a fuck about your pension or benefits. You’re just another whiney Socialist pig wanting a bigger handout from Uncle Sam. Why don’t you invest in American companies and earn dividends? Live on Main Street but get paid by Wall Street. If you think Washington is your key to a financially secure retirement then you’ve already drank the Kool-Aid and can’t be reasoned with.

        #PAINTITBLACK

        • Retired Grunt says:

Hmmmmm…. whiney socialist pig, I’ve never been called that before. As far as the handout from Uncle Sam I only want what I earned. I also did invest so my retirement check is in the only thing I get but whiny socialist pig wow OK.

          • Slow Joe says:

Don’t worry, Communist Center Rat has an habit of projecting his fantasy upon other people.

Then he claims is all pro free market, but he is obviously a communist.

            • Comm Center Rat says:

Please don’t lecture me about the free market Slow Socialist Joe. I doubt you’ve ever submitted a tax return listing business income, deductions, and expenses. You probably take the standard deduction rather than itemize on your personal tax return. I’m sure you can’t read a P&L Statement or even a brokerage account statement that doesn’t have a colorful pie chart like the TSP. You’re a free market capitalist every day of the month except government pay days. You’re the most dangerous of Socialists because you wrap yourself in the flag of patriotism, but you’re too stupid to know what you don’t know. Try to increase your IQ above the normal body temperature range then maybe you’ll begin to understand Capitalism.

You seem to be trying to make a point in there, somewhere, but buried it in vitriol.

Why bother with such self-defeating effort?

  16. Messkit says:

How was permission obtained? To alter PUBLIC PROPERTY, requires a formal request before the city council, public discussion hearings, and a vote on use of public property. Likely, would even demand an EIR from the paints/solvents used, street closure, chemical access of drainage to water sources, and cost of materials and personnel.

Otherwise, it is known as “graffiti”.

  17. akpual says:

Seems to me comm center rat didn’t think he earned his pension. Maybe he should send it back. That would be a little more for those who did.
