Mark Wayne Tiemann; Round Marine found
Well, it took more than two years, but we finally identified the Round Marine. His name is Mark Wayne Tiemann and he lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was identified by a neighbor who has heard all of his wild ass stories and he’s seen the uniform in the picture above.
But here’s a picture of him without the phony finery (notice the USMC tattoo);
Yep, he was a Marine, but he was discharged as a Sergeant back in 1992 with seven years of service;
His real awards are somewhat fewer than what he’s sporting on the picture above;
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two photos for doubters;
Thanks to everyone who participated in the successful conclusion of this particularly long hunt.

Test post, my phone has gone bonkers!
Voice,
Sorry but nope. He did not see a lot of combat in that time frame, especially serving in a BSSG. He was offered the opportunity to come clean. The big thing is turn in what he doesn’t rate. He doesn’t want to play, he gets to reap what he has sown. Supreme court said he could do it, but we could counter with the truth, even if his feelings get hurt.
ExHack: New Mexico may not have a business license requirement per se. However, this is from the City of Las Cruces web site:
“All businesses operating in New Mexico must register with the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. If you operate a business and are within the city limits of the City of Las Cruces, you must have a City Business Certificate.”
http://www.las-cruces.org/Departments/Community%20Development/Sections/Building%20and%20Development/Business%20Registration.aspx
As you point out, he’s almost certainly done the former if he’s running a business. Dunno if he’s required to do the latter or not.
Average NCO: good. Hopefully he won’t try to join another post and continue to “rock the lie”. Perhaps state will put out a warning on the guy.
Nik – Glad to see you back, I was just wondering what happened to you. Unless I’ve missed you posting on other threads.
I’m with Old Dog on this one. This guy is missing a few marbles and no amount of shaming will do any good, but only IF the stories are true. My own Grandfather became a totally different person after having a stroke. He said and did things that he never would have before the stroke, even though he “seemed” clear and level headed and could function just fine. This falls on his caregivers to force him to accept reality and responsibilities. But mostly they have to force (and I do mean force) him to accept what’s the truth. Some doctors will say it’s alright to let them live in a fantasy world but those tend to be the Dr.Banks among them. The best hope for him to be a functional member of society and a family is to force them into and to deal with what’s real and true. You are doing him harm and not helping him to learn to cope with his delusions versus what’s real in his head.
No I say shame on YOU for not caring for this man’s mental health but expecting strangers on the web to care. You are the ones hurting him here not TAH and its truth seekers. But I say again only IF the stories are true!
And just to correct something. It is not Don Shipley’s Hair, it is The Hair’s Don Shipley.
If Mark Wayne Tiemann suffers from “mental illness” as described by Sockpuppet 2 AKA the “Voice 2” then perhaps he should not be holding a FFL… Since we do not know exactly what type of mental illness Mark Wayne Tiemann has, (as the Voice 2 wasn’t specific about it)I cannot say for certain he should have his license revoked. However I guess that would be something the ATF should examine given they are the Licensing Authority.
#259 et al. Regarding the ATF/FFL issue, I do not see any current FFL for any person named Mark Wayne Tiemann in New Mexico. https://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/FOIA/FFLs/2014/January/TXT/0114-ffl-list-new-mexico.txt
@257
Thanks Val. I took a break for a bit, life intrudes at times.

Hoosier Lawyer: interesting. Assuming that list is accurate, that means he doesn’t appear to buy/sell firearms – at least not as part of any legitimate business or under his own name.
A question for all: does a gunsmith who repairs/refurbished – but who does not buy/sell firearms as part of his or her business – need a FFL?
Fat Fuck.
Dude gets livid when you contact him.
@265….I’d not cry if we heard he had a massive myocardial infarction
At Green Thumb … I have a scheduled 1200 MT call with him to attempt to talk some reality.
What did he mumble?
@267.
Pretty much told me to stick it.
And I was polite, as I usually am.
Curioser and curioser. Take a look at these bits of history:

Any names there look familiar?
Hondo@263, As a former manager of a gun shop/gun range, the laws regarding gunsmithing is very simple. Any one can work on another persons firearm as long as they do not keep the firearm over night or longer. If they do, then they will have to have an FFL. Any FFL holder that keeps some one’s firearm overnight or longer has to enter the owner’s name, the weapon make and model an the weapon’s serial number in their “Bound Book”
#263 – General ATF FAQ on the subject: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/gunsmiths.html#license-activities
Short answer, in most cases, yes, he would need an FFL. The list I linked to is BATFE’s updated official list. He is not on it. If he’s doing anything other than working on parts for customers to install at their own leisure, he should have one.
@271, Well, I stand corrected. My gun shop management days were back in the late 90’s.
So, now in a nutshell, any gunsmith will now have to have an FFL period.
Hoosier Lawyer: thanks for the info. Didn’t know one way or the other – now I do.
Wonder why Tiemann isn’t showing up on the current FFL list?
to be a gunsmith without an ffl is like trying to run a whore house without girls.
most wholesalers wont even sell to you.
@266, ChipNASA, I’m sure he’ll soon suffer a heavy duty anal infuction courtesy of Bubba, Thor, & Company if he continues his stupidity at this rate!!
I take the night off to watch my guilty pleasure “Ghost Hunters” and I miss all the fun.
@138 CWORet. I have got your back brother. Sorry, been out of town and was unable to post earlier. If this piece of shit had showed up at any ball I ever attended, he would have had the ever living shit beat out of him (I mostly attended 2nd Marine Division Balls and the balls of infantry battalions I was a member of) before he was taken into the parking lot and stripped of his clown suit. I would have gladly supervised that too. I am very, very happy this fucking shit stain has been I.D.ed. Nice job TAH for sticking with it.

Calling now!
Called as promised just after 1200 MT.
Twice.
Answered and hung up both times without saying a word!
Game on!
Full Salvo Weapons Release Authorized!
@280 Sic ’em….
He was a Marine and an NCO at that. His first instinct is to fight back. (I know what you said, you said his first instinct is to eat.) Anyway, here’s hoping that after he calms down and thinks for a few minutes, he’ll just end this charade quickly. Right now, The Bulldog (MCPO) is pissed and that’s not a challenge, just a fact. Just end this, please, Tiemann. Contact Jonn Lilyea (see contact button at top of page) if you need to learn how.
@280. MCPO….
Did I call it??
NUKE HIM
Damn, I was hoping roundy would do the right thing, since he’s a DS/DS vet and all. Sorry dude, you blew it, not much else to say…
THE ULTIMATE NUCLEAR WEAPON OF THE DAY HAS BEEN LAUNCHED!
HE WILL BE FAMOUS NOW!
JONN WAS CC’D ON LAUNCH CODES!
Thanks Master Guns… I was into my beers a bit the other night, and was under the impression he had ATTENDED two balls in that silly suit of his. That threw the rage-o-meter into the red-line and invoked the Keyboard of Fury. Turns out he attempted to attend two of them, and was probably asked something stupid like “Mmm… ID Please?”. How he escaped with that double wide jacket intact is still a mystery to me. Hopefully someone will remember and post the story. Yea, took a while to track him down, but he’s got him some serious MCPO problems now. – CWORet out…
Are you going to tell us or just let it be a surprise?
Crap – forgot the forum doesn’t like when you mess with the name thingy. My other post is awaiting moderation…
@250-Thanks. Wasn’t aware of that. I assumed the criteria was basically the same as the CIB.
Ah .. I will leave it to Jonn and it is his house!

HSSophomore: best as I can tell, it’s more similar to the CAB, actually – there’s no MOS requirement. Though from what I’ve seen, in general it seems that today returning fire is also required in the USMC if there’s a firefight vice simply taking fire in order to qualify for the CAR. Not USMC, so I could be wrong; USMC readers please chime in and confirm/correct as required.
Both apparently are subject to, um, shall we say . . . being “liberally awarded” at times. Blanket orders for the CIB by Army units aren’t unknown (I’m pretty sure I’ve seen at least one from Vietnam, and other units are reputed to have done much the same at various times). And from what’s posted above, that seems to have been true for the CAR in some USMC units during DS/DS as well.
ghp95134: actually, I believe Tiemann’s on all three of the lists I posted. The latest of those is from 2011.
However, he doesn’t seem to appear on the Jan 2014 NM FFL list linked by Hoosier Attorney above.
If the Jan 2014 list is accurate, it seems that somewhere along the way Tiemann’s FFL . . . became invisible.
OT:anyone heard from Sparks? Getting concerned.
The CAR is the catch-all for Navy/Marines/Coast Guard. It is, or was pretty liberally awarded. There is no requirement to fireback at the enemy. Under very loose interpretation the requirements are that you be in an area designated as a “hostile fire area” and be in a place that is “under threat” of enemy fire. A special part of its criteria addresses actions of Special ops groups ( SEALS). If they go into a hostile area, do an operation and extract without being shot at or returning fire, or without even seeing the enemy they can still be awardes a CAR because of the POTENTIAL of being fired on. Several crews of Navy Vessels during DS/DS were awarded the CAR simply because the Persian Gulf had Mines in it.
@292/295-Thanks. Interesting. Do they award hostile fire pay the same way, out of curiosity?
@294-I’ve been a thinkin’ the same thing. Where is he? Is he doing a long trip into the wilderness with animals perched on his head a la TSO, or should we be worried?
@296. “Hostile fire” Pay or “imminent danger pay” is even more liberal in being awarded. I drew that, plus Sea Pay, and to boot my base pay was non taxable while I was in the Gulf from June-October 1991.
Not a Marine, but my BCT in Iraq was under 2 MEF and I was with a joint command with Marines in Afghanistan. In both instances, the Marine’s definition for “active engagement” for a CAR required that the Marines return fire. In one instance, where one of our joint patrols came under fire in Afghanistan, no one returned fire because the shooter couldn’t be clearly identified. The Army guys all got CABs and CIBs, the Marines and Sailors got nada.
@294\297- Sparks is back. He posted earlier on one of the other threads- I think it was the original one about Jabba the Fuck
After much thought…someone that’s in the military, that truly has earned their rank and medals, and is truly a Navy Seal wouldn’t let themselves get so big! You have to be disciplined to be a Seal. You stay disciplined once you retire. You take care of yourself and make sure that you get psychological help when you need it. Mark Tiemann should return everything he didn’t earn, apologize, and get his self respect back. If that is possible. And get some help with his emotional and mental health.
Finger puppet.
