AverageNCO sends us a link that was posted at Don Shipley’s Facebook page. This dude is at his own wedding dressed like this;
Yes, that’s a 2d award of a CIB over his right pocket, but it’s only because his left pocket is so crowded, I suppose. Of course, he couldn’t have pared down the number of weapons qualification badgesand the hangie-down thingies could he?
On the 2d award of the CIB, the AR 600-8-22 says;
f. Second and third awards of the CIB are indicated by superimposing 1 and 2 stars respectively, centered at the top of the badge between the points of the oak wreath. To date, a separate award of the CIB has been authorized for qualified Soldiers in the following qualifying periods:
(1) World War II (7 December 1941 to 3 September 1945).
(2) The Korean Conflict (27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953).
(3) The Republic of Vietnam Conflict. Service in the Republic of Vietnam conflict (2 March 1961 to 28 March 1973) combined with qualifying service in Laos; Dominican Republic; Korea on the DMZ; El Salvador; Grenada; Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea; Panama; Southwest Asia Conflict; and Somalia, regardless of whether a Soldier has served one or multiple tours in any or all of these areas. The Republic of Vietnam Conflict Era officially terminated on 10 March 1995.
(4) War on Terrorism (Afghanistan, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM) and (Iraq, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM).
g. Subsequent awards of the CIB is not authorized for the same qualifying period, as outlined above.
So here’s a close up of his finery;
AverageNCO says that there are two Humanitarian Service Medals, but I went cross-eyed looking at that mess. He has a star on one of them, so I don’t why he’s wearing two. He’s also wearing a star on his Overseas Service Ribbon. Subsequent overseas tours are denoted by a numeral, not a star.
And that looks like an Army Distinguished Service Cross next to the Purple Heart. I see a Kosovo Service Medal next to the Iraq Campaign Medal, but no GWOT Expeditionary Medal or GWOT Service Medal, but like I said, I went cross-eyed and may have missed it. And is that an Antarctic Service Medal?
All I know for a fact is that the CIB should go on top of all that crap, the jump wings should go on the pocket and the two marksmanship badges should close up to his right.
He really needs to invest in some Brasso and clean up that brass with it instead of inhaling it.
And this is what he looks like from the right side;
Yes, that’s a Ranger Tab on his right pocket – all of those marksmanship hangie down thingies were more important than his Ranger Tab. I’m not up on current standards for unit patches on the Class A uniform, but I’m pretty sure that the unit patch isn’t a pin-on metal 82d Airborne Division thing.
It may be the light, but those buttons on his uniform look silver, not brass, and his service stripes indicate that he has more than 24 years of service and no Good Conduct Medal, unless there’s a Reserve equivalent I don’t see.
The wedding album said his first name is Paul and his name plate says “Tillson”. But there are no Paul Tillsons in AKO and there’s no Tillson who is a senior NCO.
Added by Sporkmaster: For shame, for shame. I thought that you guys would have IDed these two medals. The Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Korea Medal. The funny thing I would like to hear how he earned them considering the ending date for the medals was 1953 and 1954.

ADDED: Paul Tillson was convicted for defrauding the VA for 13 years and sentenced.

Maybe things have changed over the looooong passage of time, but when I was in the United States Army, you were only permitted to display a MAXIMUM of two (02) qualification bars on the Weapons Qualification Badge and/or the Driver and Mechanic Qualification Badge.
As I recall, graduates of the Seventh Army NCO Academy in Bad Tolz, Germany are the only ones in the United States Army authorized to wear silver-colored instead of brass-colored coat buttons and collar insignia.
Is that correct?
I graduated from III Corps NCO Academy, not the Seventh Army NCO Academy, so I’m going by what other NCOs told me at the time (about a couple of eons ago).

@166 AR 670-1 grants no special distinction to graduates of the NCO Academy at Bad Tolz.

I like the United Nations (Korea) Service Medal with one bronze service star. It was a single issue one time decoration, with subsequent UN operations awarded with the standard UN Medal, considered a separate decoration. Thus, its impossible to have more than one UN Service Medal!

Does any of us have contact with the New Jersey Asshole Tillson? It is time to see if he will come on here and try to unfuck himself. Whether we try to contact him “in the clear”, here at the blog, or if one of us can do it privately and come back with an AAR; he needs his tail twisted so he can “Holler Uncle” loud n clear. West Coast Tillson has every right to bitch about this, but at this point, it is doubtful that many who’ve stopped by and formed an image of that name will be back here again.

This guy is obviously a fraud but don’t think everybody who had ribbons from multiple services is a fake. I have ribbons from prior service marine corps on my army national Guard uniform. Also if you are awarded a combat action ribbon in the marine corps you are not authorized to wear it on your army uniform. It is supposed to be replaced with a CIB/CAB but I have seen another former marine who was denied a CIB in lieu of his CAR so he wears the CAR. Not correct on his part but the officer that turned him down did not follow the reg. BTW this guy probably is a retired guardsman because the bottom row is a NJ good conduct, NJ desert storm, NJ merit award ribbon (all National guard ribbons)
So here’s a really funny one. The ribbon on the very bottom left. The grey one with blue and yellow stripes. That is the “NSCC/NLCC Prior Service Ribbon”. As in the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Apparently he may have served as a Sea Cadet when he was between the ages of 13-17.

The midddle ribbon in the fourth row is ( or was) the Army Service ribbon. It was etablished in 1990 and retroactive to 1981.
We caled it the “froot Loop” ribbon.
The explaination for all the colora was that the Army wanted it to represent all MOSs… From the Wiki article: “The Army Service ribbon is a multi-colored (red, orange, yellow, green and blue) ribbon to represent the entire spectrum of military specialties in which officers and enlisted soldiers may enter upon completion of their initial training”

I don’t know if the other comments noted, but his BOLO badges (that’s what I remember them being called)are in reverse order Expert is supposed to be closest to the heart. The 82D ABN pin is legitimate. Its purpose is basically the equivalent of wearing a combat patch on dress greens.
I stand corrected; its location centered on the ASU is an authorized location for authorized warriors who fought for our country.

An Antarctic Service Medal would be at least reasonably explicable. No, I think the medal you are confusing with an ASM is actually a KOREAN Service Medal which was given for participation in the Korean WAR. The last one given was around 1954, about the time when this guy was being born (or before). It’s Wh-Blu-Wh-Blu-Wh, third row up, center. Yeah, he just needs moar dragons and sh*t, man…
