Douglas B. Sherrow; phony Corps Commander

Someone sent us their work on this Character, Douglas B. Sherrow who claimed to be the XVIIIth Airborne Corps Commander, a three-star-general. He gave out this business card;

This is his LinkedIn Profile;

Well, according to his records, he retired as an armor branched officer in the New York National Guard. He began his military career in 1970 as an enlisted soldier in the Guard and then he was commissioned in 1972 and he spent his entire career in the National Guard, until he retired in 1994. He wasn’t even parachutist qualified, one would think that a commander of an Airborne Cops could jump from an airplane. He had no deployments in his 24 years of service.

Looks like he’s into butt piracy and getting DORKED in his SQUEAKHOLE!
Cocksucker
These comments that are posted on all of these kind of just makes it look like its your fantasy that all these guys are in to guys. Its like you’re hopeful…
You miss all of the shots you don’t take!
By any chance, does your name have anything to do with the Right of the Line?
And “Tin Lizzie” outs his own interests….
He looks like Freddy Krueger.
Reminded me of the late Robin Williams.
zactly!
Robin Williams did good for the troops.
Only ten thousand times dumber and dishonest…
A friggin Corps commander?????
Why couldn’t he just be satisfied with Navy Seal ??
But does he also walk like Frankenstein?
I don’t know if it’s just the pics, but he looks more like a crazy panhandler than officer to me.
He’s got to be some kind of dumb thinking he can get away with claiming to be a former corps commander.
Go big or go home!
Incipient mental illness? He probably should be committed somewhere…
A DRUNK commanding 170,000 Airborne Troops …
What has the Army come to?
Is this our first field grade officer-level Stolen Valor?
Just …. wow.
I don’t know if he’s the first FG level poser but I’m pretty sure he is the highest (actual) ranking poser who’s ever been busted here.
Spent most of my service in Viii Airborne corps 1/3 ADA Fort Stewart. And 1/7 ADA. 108th BDE Fort Bliss. Deployed with 1/7 fort OEF/ OIF 2003. I think I’d remember a Commander with a mug like his. Sheesh looks like something straight out of the princess bride.
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!

Lol I love that scene!!! Great flick
Inconceivable!
TOTALLY not LTG Gary Luck. Totally not.
I remember a GEN Gary Luck taking command of Eighth Army back in my AD days.
Luck was the Commander during DS/DS. I was attached to one of the XVIII Airborne Corps MP units. Short little bastard with an evil face.
JUST WHEN you thought you have seen the limits of stupidity…
Yeah, like there are Retired LTG’s out there doing blue collar jobs for a living.
Turbo-dumbass!!
Those two photos of him display the dedication he has exhibited and continues to exhibit at the gloryhole of his local seedy adult bookstore. The bruising of his left eyelid probably occurred staring into the hole for his next conquest as he was reminiscing of his days as director of student operations at a NYC high school. (He didn’t see Bubba approach the hole in a stealthy manner)
If you’re gonna go go BIG.
Lieutenant Colonel, Lieutenant General…that’s kind of the same thing.
Just one letter different. I gotta step up my game. I was happy (and surprised) to be a LTC.
six one/half a dozen in the other. Close enough for government work!
Even closer, only 4. O9-O5=O4
Isn’t this him claiming to be a BG as well as 1st BDE Commander of the 1st Armored Division? (click on link and scroll down):

One of the awards listed on this “fine individual’s” FOIA reply appear to be clearly in error.
The man does not have 30 years total service, much less 30 “good” years in the Reserve Components. He thus cannot legitimately have been awarded the Gold Hourglass device for the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (AFRM).
Per his FOIA reply, he served from 30 Jan 1970 to 14 Feb 1994 – 24 years 16 days. The Gold Hourglass represents the third award of an hourglass device for the AFRM; each award requires 10 years “good” RC service within a 12 year period (see AR 600-8-22, para 5-8). Thus, a minimum of 30 years “good” Reserve Component service is required for award of the Gold Hourglass for the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
24 years 16 days < 30 years.
Gee. For some reason, this tool’s name doesn’t seem to appear in this list:
http://theworldsmilitaryhistory.wikia.com/wiki/Commanding_General,_XVIII_Airborne_Corps
Maybe he should contact them and have them correct their list.
Or maybe he should ESAD instead. (smile)
Thank you, Hondo, for sharing this. Read your comment after I posted a comment about General McNeill and saw you already shared. You are right…Dude is definitely a tool (that is missing from a toolbox).
Given the shape of his nose, how about nicknaming him “Wedge” – it’s a simple tool, too.
More like…..I got paid alot of money to blow truckers, I liked my job.
You mean he gave three star blowjobs to winos behind bus stops?
He did it, I can’t believe it, he done went full retard.
Yep…there is a village out missing an idiot…
More like past full retard and potato all the way to full rutabaga.
Hot Shit! A high school teacher AND the XVIII Airborne Commander simultaneously!!!!!
Who knew there was a military man who was this level of a multi-tasker. It’s like he was two different people.
Is it no longer a crime to impersonate a commissioned officer, or since he was an officer, just not a general, does that not qualify?
Good question…perhaps if he is gaining any monetary value/gain based on his bogus calling card ($$ for his home improvement company) or getting free items or services because of his claim of being a GO, then this may be a case of Stolen Valor.
AP, My question is – since he is drawing a military pension as an officer, could he be brought back on active duty and be court-martialed for posing as a retired 3 star general?
Now, that would be fun to follow as it happens!
stewburner and anonymous: Please see my comment posted below. Thank you!
He managed to get an AGR position (Active Guard and Reserve) in 1989, so he had a few years of active duty. Those were (are) highly coveted positions at the state level because they provide all of the benefits of active duty without the pain and hassle of PCSing. It looks like he also punched out just as ROPMA was kicking in, which brought with it higher standards for officers. Those who didn’t meet the standards (like a college degree) were shown the door. Of course, that might just be coincidence.
I’m retired AGR. Served 13 in the Regular Army followed by 13 AGR
The PCS thing is sorta accurate
Until the PCS you across the state and you have a 4 hour a day commute or you sleep in your office 4 nights a week
It all depends on the state. Texas and California aren’t so good. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire are doable.
Doug Sherrow – Hugh Shelton
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Shelton
They do SOUND kind of similar?
Just like LT Colonel and LT General sound kind of similar.
In this day and age it’s amazing that people would lie about something that it would literally take 10 seconds with a smart phone to disprove.
Mental issues maybe?
I think this guy is nuttier than a fruitbat. Nobody would try to pose as a former XVIII Airborne Corps CG unless they are mentally ill…
He’s adhering to the ol’ “go big or go home” philosophy
Nothing like picking one of the most recognized Army Corps Commands to craft a fake service record. But then, we have never seen an intelligent Poser….
Me thinks he was trying to be General Dan McNeill, who was the XVIIIth Airborne Corps Commander from 2001-2003 during OEF. Additionally, McNeill is also from North Carolina.
Gonna be nice and only call him a Moron that definitely has a Personality Disorder.
Assuming he has any personality…
Douglas B. Sherrow you were an guard LTC NOT a LTG.
Douglas B. Sherrow you are a liar
Douglas B. Sherrow you are a scumbag
Weekend at Bernies?
I’m shocked I tell you, shocked!
He does have some active duty as AGR. Hard jobs to get by they way. I’m currently long term ados and have interviewed for a ton of AGR jobs in my state.
WTAF?????
He kind of looks like a garden gnome.
I was thinking “Lord Of The Elves”
Dude’s claim to fame under the Cambridge Who’s Who (check out his educational degrees):
http://www.cambridgewhoswho.com/Members/NC/Douglas-Sherrow-1037487.html
He has a Facebook account where is looks as if he deleted his claim of being a retired US Army LTG:
https://www.facebook.com/douglas.sherrow
How others rated him as being a Social Studies teacher at Commack High School, NY, same school he graduated from in 1966:
https://www.ratemyteachers.com/doug-sherrow/538630-t
He also graduated from the University of New York at Stony Brook in 1970:
https://ir.stonybrook.edu/…/Stony%20Brook%20People,%20v.%204,%20n.%2005.pd…
I’m impressed (sarc).
Commack High School or as he posted on the facebook page:
Commack Scools
Sep 1970 to 1988
Taught all kinds of Social Sciences
And this:
About Douglas.
Retired Lieutenant General in 2003
His doctoral degress are fake schools.
So when you get down to the nitty-gritty of it, it’s probably true that Dallas Wittgenfeld is more qualified to claim airborne fame than this person.
They’re both cranks and crackports, which does level that playing field, doesn’t it? The only difference is that Dullas-a-stick Whipitnflogit really does have quite a few jumps, even if they weren’t all on Army time or over in the Viet of the Name.
I didn’t think they’d be able to get the bolts out of the sides of his neck.
Based on his alternate reality world, probably received the wrong brain as well:
https://youtu.be/yH97lImrr0Q
“Abby Something…”
Not good:
According to this 1 November 2017 article, Sherrow claims not only to be a severly disabled Army Veteran, but also a LTG who served in Vietnam:
https://states.aarp.org/concern-grows-tax-impact/
“Douglas Sherrow, a severely disabled Army veteran in Mint Hill, struggles to make ends meet on his military pension and Social Security. He and his wife are raising two grandchildren, and he said they’ve racked up thousands in credit card debt over four years.
“I’ve never been in the hole this far,” said Sherrow, who has multiple sclerosis and uses a walker. “Taxes keep going up, and my ability to pay them is going down.”
Sherrow, 69, moved from Long Island in 2008. He’s worried about rising property taxes making it difficult for older residents on fixed incomes…”
“Sherrow, a retired lieutenant general who served in Vietnam, said the exemption would have been a big help. He hopes legislators will take it up again next year.”
Now I now he’s a lyin’ sack of crap just from this– retired GOs make BANK if, for no other reason, sob stories like this don’t happen.
True, an LTG’s pension is quite a comfortable sum of money.
On the other hand, a retired O-5 with only 4-5 years of active duty isn’t getting that high of a pension. If he has that and a teacher’s pension, if he’s telling the truth about raising two grandchildren he may not be doing too well financially.
I was pointing out that he would not be in financial difficulty if he really was a Retired LTG.
Right, I understood your point that being a retired LTG is inconsistent with his claim of being in financial straits; just adding the (probably obvious) point that the truth about his career might be consistent with being in financial distress.
Being in financial trouble is one thing, but his LYING about being a Vietnam Vet to garner sympathy puts him solidly in my “FUCK YOU!!!” category.
The only retired LTG in the financial outhouse is Mike Flynn. Though he should be OK in the long run as the retired general & flag officer network is immensely powerful. If you’re not a retired GO/FO…as George Carlin once quipped – “You ain’t in the club”.
But this joker doesn’t have four or five years of active duty. He only served less than six months active duty for training. But he is likely collecting 2/3rds LTC retired reserve pension.
Actually, rgr769, he appears to have that much time on active duty.
He appears to have served in Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) status from late 1989 until his retirement in early 1994 (see his record of assignments; the last several are indicated as being AGR). As its name implies, AGR service is full-time active duty service in support of the National Guard or USAR.
Combine that with his IET time (also should have been full-time active duty), and I’d guess he has somewhere around 4 1/2 years total extended active duty. If his OCS time was also full-time active duty, he’ll possibly have a bit more than that.
If he averaged about the 75 points a year that’s possible for drilling reservists not serving on extended active duty for the rest of his career (that was the practical max during his time frame; the 60 point annual limit on points from non-active-duty sources was in effect then as I recall, and AT was considered an active-duty source of points vice inactive), he’d have around 3150 retirement points. 3150 retirement points yields a RC pension of a bit less than 22% of the O5 base pay tables in effect when he turned 60 a decade ago, adjusted by inflation since that time. And that’s gross retired pay – e.g., before deductions for SBP, income taxes, etc . . . .
I’m not going to bother with looking up the pay scales and inflation adjustments since then and doing the math, but it’s not going to be a huge sum. And that’s assuming a former spouse isn’t getting part of it.
Thanks for the correction. But he is still a lying SOS.
API & anonymous:
His AARP sob story ticked me off. Am wondering if he mislead the reporter about “serving” in Vietnam, since it is obvious he told her he is a LTG. Also wonder about his “severe” disabilities if he in fact is still doing any physical work, i.e. home improvements.
No telling what else he is claiming, but as Combat Historian shared, he definitely has some form of mental illness.
And he has grandchildren who live with him (maybe or was that a lie?)..No telling what stories he is telling them.
What’s next…a Go Fund Me site for him? A home rebuild courtesy of Home Depot? A service dog? A story about him being captured by the NVA that resulted in his afflictions? A PH?
See where I am going?
Why couldn’t I have a LinkedIn page that cool?! Oh, I’m not a lyin’ blowhard…
It appears that Douglas B. Sherrow doesn’t just have a few loose nuts and bolts, his gearbox is completely stripped out! It’s kind of easy to find out if one has or hasn’t been a US Army General Officer but he just HAD to spin his yarn and THE INTERNET IS FOREVER.
I sent Jonn a copy of my DD 214 where I was NYARNG from 1975-1977 B Company, 1st Batt, 242 Inf. I mentioned to Jonn that I didn’t remember his name but now as I sit here using up my key board ribbon ink, I now vaguely remember his name. My 214 was signed by Neil Lindstrom whom I remember lived in Long Beach LI, NY. I think this was the CC who made us wear our load bearing gear over our ponchos when it was raining and wanted us to drill with the crawling under the barbed wire and explosives going off while we did the low crawl. from what I remember, he only spent a short time with us.
Wow, Jeff, wow…It just goes to show you that the military is indeed a small world.
Jonn; I hope you got my email copy of my 214 and compared it and the time line with Sherrow’s time at the Huntington Station Armory where I was.
I made a typo on my old guard CC. His name is Neal Lennstrom and not Neil Lindstrom. My error. Where is my bottle of ink eradicator.
Here’s where his promotion to LTC was confirmed –
https://www.congress.gov/nomination/101st-congress/1097
stewburner: Was speculating about his possible violation of the Stolen Valor Act, but now realize my mistake in posting that comment. He does not fall under the Act because he is not claiming awards such as the MOH or PH for monetary gain.
I’m sorry for my error.
The Whiz Wheel says if anybody deserves a FOAD Purple 4, it’s this wingnut so:
LTC/G? (Ret) Douglas B. Sherrow (FRPR) 44×8 = 352
Claw: Does that include his middle name Barnes?
Say, can you (or anyone tell me what he is wearing on his lapel? I enlarged the image and it looks as if it could be a steel pot on top of an M16?
Another nice name for him from me. Dirtbag. For claiming service in Viet of the Nam. Pure Dirtbag.
And wondering if he REALLY was an Honor Graduate of CGSC as he claims..
Middle name of Barnes was not included as I couldn’t track it down before the scoring occurred. arnes is only five more points, but the Whiz Wheel had awarded six points each for the () in his signature block, so the five points was easily made up.
That little lapel pin is indeed a Fallen Soldier Battlefield Marker (helmet on weapon) used to alert Graves Registration to a body that needs taken care of.
Thanks, Claw, for the input on the Whiz Wheel for him and the lapel pin identification. Interesting that he is wearing it.
Is it just me or does he look like he’s starting to decay?
All y’all are being too hard on LTG Douglas “Old Pants on Fire” Sherrow. I remember being in the Central Highlands in ’71, and being grateful Sherrow was home saving Brooklyn from the godless commie hordes…
(Those wishing to respond to this comment in the negative should be advised that rock throwers need to line up on the left, and water balloonists form a file on the right. Or “port” and “starboard” for those of a nautical persuasion. Go Army, Beat Navy!)
I’d rather use champagne bottles if possible…celebrating of course Lt Gen Douglas’s coming out party now that’s he been exposed as a fake.
(just aim the cork at his nutsack and shake the bottle hard)
How ’bout those of us who want to hurl rotten cabbage, rotten tomatoes and fresh horse apples in his face?
This effing NG officer (although I use the term “officer” loosely) POSer needs to be recalled to active duty and court martialed for conduct unbecoming an officer. He may have the excuse that he is senile or deranged as a defense, cuz I can’t think of any other reason why a career weekend warrior (only) O-5 could spew such absurd bullshit. If this douche canoe can promote himself to LTG, then I could be the only living General of the Army (five stars).
(ret) is retarded. (Ret) is retired
Well, one things for sure…….he’s one ugly motherfucker. I’ll give him that!!! That, that, that’s all I gotta say on that….
Well, all I have to say is that Douglas B. Sherrow – who was not the Corps Commander, is not a three-star General, did not deploy, and apparently is bordering insane, is going to add some Scumbag Points to the scoreboard with his claims and his Full Retard multiplier.
But even with his help, Navy still has a lead on Army in the 2018 TAH Stolen Valor Race.
His NG career explains a lot.
I imagine he was not paid to kill people, but he was paid to be fucked in the ass by paying customers behind the dumpster (er…board room) at All-Points Logistics in Merritt Island, Florida.
Phildo-Style!!!!
