An early weekend open thread

| February 28, 2014

My wife is forcing me to go that portal to Hell, Metro DC, today, so I’m giving you your weekend open thread now. My code monkey hippie chick says that the new TAH will launch tonight while most of you are sleeping, so don’t freak out when you dial us up tomorrow. She assures me that there will be problems, so don’t be hesitant telling us about things you might encounter and we’ll get them fixed as fast as we can. You night owls might experience problems if you’re on when she’s loading the new format.

Drop off links to your blog, news you’ve found that might be of interest to this crowd, or your favorite recipe in this thread of comments. Have at it.

And welcome back, Sparks, you have a lot of catching up to do what with all of the news that broke here this week.

Jesse palmer is a no talent, fair-weathered sack of shit.

Tired of snow. really tired of snow.

Looking forward to the NCAA and TAH tournaments.

Oh, and Phildo takes in the ass.

Sparks

Looking forward to the new blog site Jonn. Thanks for all the work.

I don’t have “admin” capabilities here so I cannot upload this latest graphic that I have done up, re Daniel A. Bernath, so you will just have to try to use this link to Fakebook to see it:

Also, I am a member of an association whose mission is to support the Ranger Instructors of the 6th Ranger Training Battalion, “Florida Phase” of Army Ranger School.
Last night, at our annual Spring get together, there were 40+ members, and active duty Ranger Instructors. I was able to tell them of what we do here at TAH, and got thunderous applause for our dedication, and our accomplishments. These people, both active and retired, and their spouses, “Get It”.

So HEY…I’m home! It went okay. As well as you could expect for what they did. Here’s my first little “hospital stay” story. Just for you GUYS! You WILL NOT believe what I did Tuesday morning at the hospital. I was sitting there once again waiting on the nurse. I knew they were going to take my catheter out, which I was happy about. So, what do I do. Thinking I am helping them and me, I start to pull it out. It gets harder and harder and the little nylon catheter tube is getting stretched like a rubber band. So I think, well, I’ve seen these come out before, no big deal, you just have to pull, it’s probably hung up where it goes under the pelvic bone. So I give it a good pull and OH YES, IT COMES OUT! Along with the 1 plus, inch bulb full of water on the end! Who knew it had one of those. I guess it is there to keep it from coming out by itself. (You see, before THEY pull it out they release this valve that drains the water out of the bulb. Then they tell me, right!) Go figure. I immediately start bleeding profusely like I was giving birth through my pee hole. I mean blood going everywhere! They came in and looked at what I had done and said , “WHAT DID YOU DO?” I though that was a superfluous question myself. I thought it was pretty obvious, having the suspect weapon in my hand and the bedside sheet, my legs and floor covered in blood. But they said people who use them all the time have them get yanked out…ugh the thought of it even now makes my stomach sick…again. They said I probably just stretched and cut the urethrae a little. So they start me another IV bag of antibiotics to be sure and it stopped bleeding in pretty short order. Did I mention, that as I saw this bulby thingie coming through my…thingie, that it scared me spit-less? I mean like, the first “Alien”… Read more »

@3 Frankly, saw it on my Facebook this morning. Looks good brother.

Hondo

Sparks: OUCH. I certainly hope you didn’t do “Ralph the One-Eyed Trouser Trout” any significant/permanent damage!

And yeah – I’ll damn sure remember your story here if I ever have to get catheterized.

Glad to see you made it through the surgery otherwise fine. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@4 Dude, ouch….I passed a quarter inch kidney stone a couple years ago and it was a pretty bloody outcome, I can’t imagine a 1 inch catheter plug being dragged through….we are a stretchy bag of skin at times but yikes…

I’ve been lucky enough that the only surgery I’ve required thus far has been to replace a cataract in my right eye…fair skinned northern european descendants are apparently prone to them with too much UV exposure…so now I have this lens implant that is absolutely fantastic…the rest of my parts all still pretty much work the way they are supposed to albeit a bit slower these days…

@ Frank Opinion … AWESOME JOB on that Facebooker thingy!

@ Spark … did you get any HOT NURSE photos for us?

Sparks

Thanks guys for enduring that. The effects of the pain medicine is sorta coming and going. I will be lurking most of the time to catch up all the reading I missed. So, if I don’t respond much you’ll know why and that I am not just being rude. Thanks for the thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

Sparks

@8 Master Chief. Sorry no. No hot nurses in sight there. AND NO SPONGE BATHS EITHER! I was robbed I tell ya.

Twist

Frank, thanks for adding me on the facebook.

Twist

You know how before you deploy you fill out a whole lot of paperwork and one of the questions they ask you is what song would you like played at your memorial. I’m the only one that I know of that they made change the song. I chose “I Touch Myself” by The Diviynls.

A Proud Infidel

SPARKS! GOOD to see you made it through! As for the sponge baths, BUMMER. but at least you didn’t end up having to get examined by a big-fingered, sadistic Proctologist with poor depth perception!!

Stacy0311

Going to the DC Big Flea out at Dulles? Track me down and we’ll slip out for a beer

Twist

Glad to see everything came out alright Sparks. No pun intended.

Ex-PH2

So, you see, not only did Sparks get a wood pegleg. He also ended up with a wood pecker.

I just had to do that. Sorry!!!!!!!

MGySgtRet

Sparks, glad you are home safe and sound. As for your catheter story, you had me at “you just have to pull”.

2/17 Air Cav

Thanks Sparks. My knees are weak, I can’t make a fist, and my stomach is turned. That catheter yank story was gross. I played doctor once or twice myself, but it was a lot more fun than what you described.

OAE CPO USN Ret

@Sparks,

Thanks for riveting story on catheter removal. I’ll just be over here in the corner…curled up in the fetal position.

David

damn, I used to work in a hospital and the only people who removed their own cathjeters were old out-of-reality folks who seemingly fely nopain…. OUCH!

SJ

Missed ya Sparks. The posers did not.

Toasty Coastie

Welcome back Sparks, glad you are recovering nicely and hopefully speedily…and um yeah..the catheter…can some one please scrub my brain? Not enough coffee to have read that yet…

Combat Historian

Damn, dude; you should have just stayed with taking photos of the big-boobied nurses…

MrBill

@4 – OMG Sparks, I’m sorry you had to endure that! Made me woozy just reading it!

I had something else happen that had the same root cause, i.e., not knowing how a foley catheter is anchored. I’d been discharged home from surgery, and had to wear the foley for a couple more weeks. A day or two after coming home I thought I saw some movement of the tube and started to freak out, thinking that it was coming out on its own. My wife took me to the ER and the doc explained to me how the Foley is anchored and assured me that it wasn’t going anywhere. In my opinion, any patient who gets one should also get an explanation of how it works – “crises” like these could be avoided.

MrBill

An interesting photo essay sent to me by an acquaintance –

MrBill: I think Jonn already did an article about that.

So Sparks, how much time has to pass before you can try out your new super sized unit?

On a serious note, glad things went well for you.

GDContractor

Damn Sparks….that’s one way to clean the pipes, I guess. I’m putting you in for Honey Badger (Hon.) rank.

MrBill

@26 D’oh! How did I miss that?

SJ

Sparks! Bore Brushing yourself? Ouch!

Laughing Wolf

Sparks, OUCH! Cringing here, but glad all seems to be okay now. Speaking from experience, they do come out a lot easier with the bulb deflated. You know, I don’t think my legs have crossed like that since watching a female wolf drag a male across the ice by his member (they were mating, he submitted to the alpha male, she sniffed at the alpha and stalked off).

Just launched http://missionvalor.org and would really appreciate your feedback. You might very much enjoy a little surprise under the About page, in our policies. We have one not only in the manual, but that gets its own page (and was influenced by what we see here at TAH).

Any and all constructive suggestions appreciated!

Also, we’ve already been approached about doing two events next month, so have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $1,200 to see if we can incorporate next week. Yep, we are already trying to help people and do things, even before we “officially” exist. Donations for that can go through the top of the right column at http://laughingwolf.net

If anyone knows a law firm in NYC (heck, anywhere right now) that might provide pro-bono review of our filings, please do let us know!

Farflung Wanderer

Weekend couldn’t come soon enough. I am just so tired after a week of school.

College is only a few months away…

@Sparks Glad to see you are home and doing well.

I just put the name of a sleazy “makebelieve lawer” into my facebook search and found this page, where I am able to comment without being friends, (so far). Needless to say, I have put the comparative photo graphic up there that I created this morning. Leave him some love:

Sparks!: Fer Chrissakes man, were the pain meds that damned “good”? Working as an orderly, years ago, I installed plenty of those, and yes, the water is there to keep them in place. You made my eyes water in sympathy pain, just reading that.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Bernath will be infamous today!

He is going MSM!

OAE CPO USN Ret

WOOOHOOOO!!!

The Lurker Formally Known as Curt

Damn, Sparks…I have a buddy who is a nurse- he told me a story much like yours. I have never been catheterized, but I do have a heads up on what to not do…

Glad you’re doing well!

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

I was very sick early last year. Essentially I had a stricture in what I called my Urethra Franklin. Well emergency surgery, cath (much like Sparks) for over 7 days … I survived, however it was the worst med procedure I ever had.

Twist

Thaks Frank, I’m going to start messaging everyone on his friends list with the link to TAH.

HS Sophomore

Will this new site include a stopwatch to measure the amount of time since the last legal threat? “We have gone twenty minutes without a lawsuit threat…Oh, but there goes Magsam/Wittgenfeld/Wickre again.” Yeah, I know it’s a bit late to ask, but it would be damn funny 😀

HS Sophomore

Glad you’re ok, Sparks. Good to have you back, and have a great weekend!

HS Sophomore

Say, by the way TAH…should we get bets in now on who the first poser busted here to announce in social media or otherwise that we’ve taken the blog down when we make the shift tonight will be?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@41 The message should be more like the OSHA signs that say “It’s been X Days Since our Last Industrial Accident”…

Probably here that means the sign would always read “It’s been 0 days since our last threat of legal action”

SJ

I hope the new format will make it easier to keep up with the multitude of posers and the comments. I’m keeping multiple screens open to do so now and still miss nuggets.

kirk

i had a catheter,NG tube, chest tube and stitches pulled out in about an hour and a half about 35 years ago! i’m still pissed!

GiducksStinkeye

OPEN THREAD! OPEN THREAD!

Nothing says, “Terror At Beslan” like taking a healthy john Giduck. Now we know why Giduck makes sh1t smell like sh1t.

Where’s an MRE when I need….duckwalking a fat Giduck is definitely in the cards this weekend.

Valkyrie

So boyfriend just dropped this personally to me on Facebook. (I might lie a little about the relationship between him and I, ok a LOT!)
The Hair strikes again and a phoney is busted right on camera! It’s so satisfying to see his face when he’s outed, but I liked to finally hear an explanation about why someone who’s served turns to lies after having an honorable career. Of course the real SEALs they interview are not nice about how they feel about imposters. It’s a good watch and there is a follow up on it. This guy lied to everyone even his wife believed he was a SEAL.

Sparks, welcome back!! As an EMT, if I would have seen someone the did that, I have no idea what I would do cept type a rubber band near the oozing end!!

Glad to hear you are back in the saddle.
