PV2 Christopher Munoz: War? I could go to war?

| July 4, 2013

KXXV-TV reports that a young soldier who just enlisted this year is filing for Conscientious Objector status days before his unit is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan;

Munoz applied for a C.O. discharge on June 25, 2013, but the process can take anywhere from 6 to 8 months to complete.

Munoz is scheduled to deploy within the next week even though he has made it clear to his commanders that he is not willing to go to war.

Munoz’s wife, Breanna, says that he joined the Army to provide for his family including his 3-year-old daughter, Julissa, and that after his basic training ended in April, his beliefs and attitude toward the idea of being in combat completely changed.

“After he got out of basic, once I was able to start talking to him again, he just seemed really different and had a different attitude about the army and everything versus when he went in, and, once he got here, we found out that he was going to be deployed and everything just kind of got more real, and he just felt like he couldn’t do it,” Breanna said.

First of all, reporter people, there is no Private Second Class rank in the Army. You’d think a journalist in an Army town would know that. Yeah, and who would have thought that joining the Army in 2013 would result in a deployment to war?

Munoz is being supported by multiple war-resistant groups, and an online petition has been set up to show him support with that petition currently having 164 signatures.

Oh, yeah, Under the Hood found a cause…finally.

It is important for his command to understand that people support his freedom of conscience.

Call me cynical, but if a couple of months in BCT and AIT didn’t turn him against the war, but a few months with his wife did, it’s probably not his conscience that’s bothering him. Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Army doesn’t want the marshmallow any more, either. But let’s call it like it is.

The good news is that he may end up in jail – guess who is representing him;

“If deployed, PV2 Munoz will be at significant risk for harassment by his fellow soldiers since he will effectively be a ‘dead weight’ on the unit. Despite these very real risks, PV2 Munoz’s command has said that a delay of his deployment will not be considered,” said James M. Branum, an attorney who represents PV2 Munoz.

Yeah, Branum manages to get every single one of his clients locked up, so there is hope for justice.

What will they do without him…

hueydoc

since we have an all volunteer military, and he could have chosen any MOS, why the hell did he choose an MOS that could have put him in a combat zone? he knew before he went to basic what he enlisted for. he has no one to blame for his situation but HIMSELF. in the past COs were drafted and had no choice but to go. but he VOLUNTEERED to go.

chockblock

Once again these guys come out of the woodwork when it’s politically convenient. Most of the time they just get UCMJ and the media ignores them.

hueydoc

i say if they decide to discharge him he should have to pay back all pay and allowances he received during his “service”. he had a CONTRACT with the Army. an honorable person, (i won’t call him a man), would honor a contract and the oath he took when he enlisted.

David

You are asked at MEPS if you are a “conscientious objector” before you enlist.

Yet another Soldier who failed to read his enlistment contract, blames his recruiter, etc.

Hack.Stone

Did they buy a leather couch with his enlistment bonus?

Hack.Stone

A cold frosty beer to the first person to understand that reference I posted above.

NR Pax

@7: Kimberly “Canuck Welfare Queen” Rivera.

Electrocanman

#4. I disagree, I think he should be held to his contract, and that if he does not want to do as ordered, he can serve the term out in Leavenworth. There, problem solved. He doesn’t have to go into combat AND the political side of the issue is neutralized.

Lando

Give him a Dishonorable, make him pay back his enlistment bonus and make sure they can’t claim any government handouts (food stamps, section 8, ect…) and send him on his way. After he serves time making big rocks little.

Ex-344MP

No sympathy here for that prick, we had one of those in my unit. Eventual Dishonorable Discharge while we were deployed. I believe he now works at a local McD’s

Smitty

holy dumb fuck! the NCO in me really wants to grab this boy by the collar and drag him to the sand pits. if NCOs were still allowed to yell at privates, or heaven forbid, smoke them, this would not have happened.

NR Pax

Just like being unable to beat your kids causes juvenile delinquents, being unable to apply wall-to-wall counseling for an errant Private leads to this.

Green Thumb

This man is coward.

Turd.

George

Administrative separation, failure to adapt.

Ex-PH2

What on earth is a PV2? Some kind of pipefitter job? The Navy doesn’t have anything like that. And this twafftwaddle gets my tax money?

Quincy P

let him out with dishonor. send him a bill for the cost of training etc. garnish his wages til he pays it all back.

Smitty

EX, PV2 is an E-2 in the army

Donny Everson

It’s called coward……not conscientious objector

Fucking piece of shit

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Send his coward ass here. I will grill him on the BBQ and leave him out for the bear, raccoon, possum, and dear to indulge on!

Pussy … his 3 year old will be in horror when this is read in 10 years!

2/17 Air Cav

Well, it was a steady paycheck for some months. And there were benefits. In fact, he is still receiving both. @18. has a point. Pay up.

O-4E

Had two guys try and pull this sh*t when I was a Commander. DOD regulation do allow for you to be determined to be a Co after enlistment…but the requirements are steep. And the regualtions do not mandate a discharge.

The two knuckleheads I had?…after spending about 10 minutes behind closed doors with the Brigade Chaplain (who was a prior enlisted Special Forces NCO)….they walked out sheepishly and never mentioned the issue again.

FatCircles0311

Another pussy that joined for benefits.

I bet he gets his honorable discharge and benefits in the end though.

Eric66

Wait…you can go to WAR if you join the military? When did this start happening?

setnaffa

Everyone he knows should send him a white feather.

NHSparky

He’s got Branum representing him. Isn’t that punishment enough?

TMB

@2 Every MOS has the opportunity to go to war. He doesn’t have to be a shooter, but even a supply clerk gets to live within mortar range.

CC Senor

@24 We had a CO in my company at Hood back in 69. I thought it odd because I always associated COs with medics and this guy was a mechanic. He got out of qualifying and carrying a weapon and I guess his status only applied to killing because he had no objections to throwing punches. Never saw anyone so ready to duke it out. Different Army, different war.

Planet Ord

He joined the army to help pay for his family….maybe he should have looked at the job description and expectations a little closer.

So he comes home and tells his wife he has to go do his job and she throws a fit. He tells his CO, hey capt. Wife says I gotta stay. Idiot.

Just An Old Dog

Just another ass- hat who thought the armed services were some kind of social program that made you wear a uniform. I know the type. The guy is the same type who would try to get out of a deployment to Korea in a peacetime setting. Momma got him by the balls. Take the sorry fucker over and have him burn shitters, mess crank and fill sandbags the entire tour. He don’t want to go lock his ass up for missing movement.

Ooid

You mean…the military is NOT A JOBS PROGRAM?!!?

OWB

Have known several actual CO’s. They were the real deal, and made no attempt to dump on the obligations of their contracts. Because with maturity some folks actually do become CO’s, the military has very good systems in place to deal with them. And accommodate them when they are real.

Cacti35

We had Medics in Vietnam that were CO’s they had brass balls to go unarmed! This little turd needs a boot up the ass!

Andy

after the invasion we were sitting on a base in Baghdad and this armor unit from 1AD got dropped in next to us. they had some guy on perm shit burning duty. seems when they got the order to deploy he suddenly became a Conscientious Objector. I was in high school when the first gulf war went down and remember some of the news stories of people suddenly realizing they made a mistake. The one that sticks out to me was some Dr that was in the guard and suddenly realized she felt war was wrong. she even went on the run and showed up on Sally Jessie Raphael.

Club Manager

Heck, I’ll sign the petition to dump the pussy.

Enigma4you

Drop his ass in the middle of a fire fight and give him the choice between his M-4 or nothing and lets see how long he remains a CO

2/17 Air Cav

Some guys oppose war but find a way to do their duty. They are few. They are far bewteen. They have my utmost respect. Desmond Doss comes to mind. But the others? Yellow stripers and those who believe that their personal agreement with the conflict is first required.

2/17 Air Cav

It’s time Jonn. Waiting for the video.

Valkyrie

To me it seems that every time someone does this it makes the news, or does it? Just wondering how often this really happens.

Ex-PH2

I ran into a WAVE like this in the Navy in 1969. She got through boot camp, got “A” school as a JO striker, then got out into the working part of the Navy and didn’t like it. Sailors were ‘horrible people’, Marines were ‘worse’. (No, they weren’t.) She didn’t think she should be asked to empty trash cans or mop the floors or make coffee. She was referred to as ‘the new chief’. She cried a lot, too. I’ve never seen so much Kleenex disappear quite so fast.

She stayed six months and then departed the Navy for good.

Thanks for the info, Smitty. It used to be PVT and PFC, followed by CPL or SPC4. But that was a long time ago and things change.

UpNorth

@22. I wonder what his daughter will say in about 10-15 years, when she or one of her friends pulls this up after running daddy’s name through a search engine? Or, what the daughter’s friends will say to her? Kids can be extremely cruel to each other, and this will never go away.
Otherwise, scroo’m. Boot his ass to the curb, give him the Big Chicken Dinner and let him explain to mommy that there won’t be lifetime benefits.

bartdp

Did I miss what his MOS was? Life on most FOB’s is safer than living in Chicago.

Trapper Frank

Maybe he can get out and get a job working for John Giduck.

NR Pax

You know, back in WW2, you were allowed CO exemption if you were a Seventh Day Adventist. Many of them were sent to the Navy and became Corpsman. But there was one who decided to join the Marine Corps knowing full well what it meant.

His name was Harlon Block.

A Proud Infidel & Patriot

I’d push for him to get an ELS (Entry Level Separation, the same thing Boot Camp washouts get), make him turn his uniforms and gear in, and give him a Statement of Charges for everything missing, as well as his Article 15 for Fradulent Enlistment. My Boot Camp Cadre did that to every washout, some went home with only $50 and a Greyhound Bus ticket!

MrGameandShow formerly C2

This is exactly why the Army has their ridiculous new screening measures i saw when I was coming back into AF reserves as MEPS. Talking to recruiters there and talking about how these kids have to pass leadership test and evaluate their life skills. This guy safe to say is a pussy with zero skills to adapt in any service. Give em the boot and let him work at his local walmart or gas station.

Roger in Republic

The thinking behind Conscientious Objector I that the person has an objection to killing people. His conscience won’t allow him to take another’s life, even at the peril to his own. This ca be the result of a particular religious teaching or tenant but it can be a strong moral position of no particular religious training. This is not what we have here. At no time has it been reported that the Pvt. has a crisis of conscience over killing. He has a rational aversion to having other people kill him. Moreover it would seem that his wife has suddenly developed separation anxiety. Fuck him and feed him fish heads!
Escort him to he plane and cuff him to the seat till the plane is feet wet. If he does not want to do his job, lock him up.
And by the way, I could get 164 signatures on a petition to repeal our Drunk Driving laws in 10 minutes down at the local watering hole. So what?

Sustainer

Should have just gone on welfare from the start and cut out my beloved Army as the middle man.
Why did you think you were qualifying with an M-16? That’s not a prerequisite for an EBT card.
