Beware: there’s a dingus with a gun out there
This link was on my Facebook thingie written by Heidi Yewman, one of those anti-gun nuts who think they can make a point by acting like their perception of people they don’t understand. Heidi, like I said, doesn’t like people owning guns, so she goes out and buys a gun and all of the attendant paperwork that goes along with that and then carries the gun in public. She’s such a ditz that she pulls over a cop to learn how to operate her gun, because she says she is going to “only do what is minimally required for permits, licensing, purchasing and carrying, and finally be prepared to use it for protecting myself at home or in public”. Now, I’m not sure where she lives, but she bought the gun with no training and strapped it on with no training. Like I said, she didn’t bother to ask the dealer how to use the gun she’s carrying, so she stopped a cop and asked him because she freaked out after she got home and took it out of the box – a Glock 9mm.
So the article opens with her sitting in Starbucks with her gun, shaking nervously near children, I guess because the gun might just jump out of the holster and start putting kids down on it’s own.
Her feeling is that everyone is just like her – no training on how to handle firearms and monstrously stupid. Responsible gun owners know or learn how to handle their firearm before they buy it, certainly before they carry it in public. No one tell Heidi this, because she won’t listen, but the NRA offers firearms safety classes.
Actually, I’ve read the article a couple of times and the only thing that I can figure Heidi wants to do is accidentally shoot someone because she’s doing her best in that regard. The thing is, there are millions of gun owners who carry a weapon in public who don’t shoot people everyday because they didn’t do “what is minimally required” to own the gun.
Heidi is an irresponsible twit who I hope doesn’t shoot herself, but that’s what she deserves.

What an idiot – proving once again that some folks just do not deserve to share our airspace, but we let them in spite of themselves.
There is just no limit and no fix for stupid.
My response to her act of idiocy is awaiting “moderation” on her blog. I doubt it will be posted… So here it is.
What you are doing is foolish and asinine. You while operating within the law, and by your own admission the bare minimums required are willfully endangering yourself and others by refusing to get the minimum safety training to safely own and never mind carry a firearm.
All you have proven is that yes you had to get a background check, and when you bought your “toy” you had to fill out a bunch of paperwork too (that is cross checked with NICS for an additional check).
You could have asked Tony for training or recommendations for training. Most people who go to buy a new car do not ask for driving lessons either…. too bad really.
I am confused about what the point is you are trying to make? That you are an irresponsible individual? Point taken, now for the sake and safety of all those around you, please grow up and either get some training or return the gun to the store from which you purchased it.
In my state we go through background checks, safety training provided by NRA certified instructors, and no responsible gun owner I know would dare to pull a stunt like you are. You are the problem right now, an activist without a clue about what you are doing.
What a dipshit. She wants people to freak out seeing her carrying a gun. If she wants that to happen Starbucks is probably a good place to go. It would also depend of where she is at if people would freak out. On the left coast they probably would. In Fairbanks, AK, where you can’t even fill your gas tank without seeing someone with a gun, probably not so much.
Even if she does shoot herself, you can count on her to blame the gun, the manufacturer, the store that sold it to her, or even the poor cop.
Story at 11
Gun jumps out of holster fires at a dingbat, jumps back into holster!!
Oh.My.God. Does she have any family or friends with any sense, or did she hatch out in a puddle in the last rainstorm?
@4 She’s also asking for someone to strong arm her and take the gun away from her. I’m not sure what I’d do if I saw a woman with rolling eyes and shaking hands with a gun, but it would probably involve the local hospital, the police, and the local evening news.
Hey Jonn, I read over this article yesterday. I have two thoughts about it. The first is it looks like the background check system worked right. If the person buying the firearm is not a prohibited person the process should be easy. The second is I think the author is a bonehead. My accountant asked me to teach her to shoot and safely handle a firearm. Like most intelligent people, my accountant asks someone who knows more about a subject for help.
Not a real fan of trigger locks, but in this case, it would be a great addition.
It’s important to note that per the article, she sits on the board of the Brady Campaign. Dishonesty, ignorance and hypocrisy are par for that course.
RB,
Mine too, and the comments of many other 2nd Amendment supporters. It seems that they’ve decided to only allow comments from the anti-gun “Amen Corner”. The Brady bunch doesn’t care for looking like they fools they are.
OWB–in her case, a people lock would be better. Prevent more serious stupidity as well.
This woman is a front-runner for a Darwin Award.
Two problems with that, NHSparky.
(1) She’s probably already procreated, thus passing along her stupidity to another generation.
(2) She’s IMO just as likely to take out someone else as off herself. I don’t have much of a problem with the latter, but I’d prefer she doesn’t take out someone else.
@3,11, Mine also, I’m not holding my breath waiting to see if my comment will see the light of day.
I’m curious to know which irresponsible state let her obtain a CCW permit without either an approved CCW class or a DD214. That’s an epic FAIL on the part of the state, to let a complete douchenozzle such as she to carry concealed. I bet she spent more time researching iPhones before she bought one than she did before buying a handgun, especially if she doesn’t know how to drop a magazine from a Glock or that the Glock is completely safe even with one in the pipe (ever hear of DAO, Heidi?)
This is a typical urban hipster douchebag article, full of strawman arguments and bullshit and completely typical of shit the average Low Information Voter laps up. One look at the Comments section was almost enough to make my lunch reappear.
The cop was right: She IS an idiot.
And also to note, my comment too is awaiting moderation. I have little to no hope it will see the light of day.
I added a comment; it’s in moderation. We’ll see if mine gets posted.
I look at it this way–more people are killed texting and driving than are killed by Glocks jumping out of their hands and going off.
What point was she trying to make, again?
That she’s afraid of guns? Or afraid of herself?
Could someone please take that thing away from her before she really does hurt someone?
Thanks.
There’s millions of people who do what is minimally required, with no training at all, who don’t freak out because a gun is fundamentally quite simple.
While I would strongly encourage anyone who buys or owns or carries a gun to get as much training as they can stand, the fact is, simple common sense* goes a long ways. Anyone who has seen a handful of Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies should have a sound fundamental basis for understanding how a semi-auto pistol works. We’re not talking about the Large Haldron Collider here.
*Of course, common sense isn’t very common these days.
There is a special name for people like this:
FU@KING IDIOT!
I don’t own a gun, but me and my husband are thinking about it. I have never shot a gun, therefor the common sense for me would be to find a class where I can be shown how to. I would myself prefer to go to a place where you can maybe rent one and take some classes before buying a gun. This other person just seemed like she wanted attention on her blog.
@22: Well, she’s getting attention but she doesn’t seem to like it judging by the number of comments stuck in moderation.
Looks like a background check is required, no training in WA:
http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/firearms/faconcealreq.html
I think this is a case where I would support some gun control, a looney libtard test of some sort.
“No matter what you try, YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID, stupid is forever!” – Ron White
Ditzes like Dingus prove the truth of that statement every day!
@24, Yes but the law also says:
•Within the past year, haven’t been an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, depressants, stimulants, narcotics, or any other controlled substance.
That rules out about two-thirds of the loonet liberals in King, Pierce and Thurston counties of Washington.
“There’s somethin’ happenin’ here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a Dingus with a gun over there
Tellin’ me, I got to beware”

Why am I not surprised this is happening in Washington. The first time this twit feels slight fear at being asked any question she doesn’t like, she’ll probably draw her gun to defend herself. Likely, she will shoot herself or some nearby person. Likelier, if the “target” is up to no good, they’ll take the gun and laugh.
Yes, it is a right. However, just because you have the right to do it does not mean you should do it.
I tweeted to Emily Miller that she needed to respond to the article. We’ll see if this hoplophobe gets scorched in the Washington Times by Miss Miller.
No training required in New Hampshire for a pistol permit, either. Of course, in New Hampshire anyone can walk into EMS and buy all the climbing gear they want without a class, also. If they decided that they are going to take that dynamic line to Mt. Washington, tie it off on a tree with a few overhand knots, hook up a carabineer, and go rappel without asking anyone who has done it a few times for help, they get what they deserve. Ditto for when jackass here ends up shooting herself or someone else. Of course, I don’t think that she has even figured out how to load the magazine yet. Maybe that will come on day 28 of the 30 day adventure.
@15. A Glock (Along with The MP-series from S&W and the XD from Springfield Armory) isn’t DAO. It’s a striker fired pistol.
As for Anti-Gun Annie…I can only hope that she sells the gun before she hurts herself or others.
My comments are in moderation too, and likely won’t be seen just as the rest of yours.
Of course, once Heidi accidentally shoots herself, naturally she’ll blame the gun, and she’ll fail to recognize the reason it accidentally discharged was because she had no idea how to use it.
BTW, I’ll bet she carries it and it’s not even loaded.
I hope the stupid twit shoots off her pinky toe.
As I think on it, she probably won’t be able to fire it at all. She bought a Glock in 9mm. 9mm is so hard to find these days I’ve actually had to start reloading for it.
My comment included: a) That I am a female gun owner, b) That was she was doing was dangerous and that she was responsible for that firearm, and c) that she needed to get instruction in how to safely handle her weapon. I was not rude in any way in my comment, and we’ll see if they’re really interested in discourse, or just engaging in liberal idiocy. I just hope someone doesn’t die during her “experiment.”
#22 Heidi
Good for you. Just proving that “common sense” isn’t totally extinct.
As for Teh Libtard Heidi – if anyone happens to live nearby and knows what she looks like – next time you happen to see her, point at her and laugh at her: long, loud and often. Especially if it’s in a crowded public place.
@ 26 JBS, in my moderated comment on her blog I alluded to her probably not meeting legal requirements for exactly that reason.
Wonder if she’ll sell the Glock at a discount when she’s done. I could use a 9mm, if the price was right.
@15 – ain’t NO gun completely safe if there are people involved
Did a little searching . . here is link to the FB page/article from MS mag.
https://www.facebook.com/msmagazine/posts/10151646907808540
By the way – I would absolutely NOT want to be in the vicinity of that woman while she is carrying. I don’t care that her supposed point was to show how easy it is to purchase a gun . . the very REAL point she is making is that she is a completely irresponsible idiot.
LOL@Sparky! That’s half of my also awaiting moderation comment: “All this author does is prove two things: you can’t legislate crazy and you can’t fix stupid”. Somehow I don’t think that one will be approved either.
@15 – I don’t know where she lives, but Pennsylvania requires neither a CCW class nor a DD214. Fill out some paperwork, get your local police to sign off on you being an upstanding citizen (from what I’ve seen this is always a rubber stamp) and get your county sheriff to run a background check.
@15 I don’t think she is concealed carrying. From what I gather from reading the article she is open carrying. She resides in Washington State, might want to look at the open carry and CCW laws there. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that Washington state requires some form of safety training for a CCW license.
I posted on the facebook page from Nina’s link. Lets see how long it stays up.
Kinda old ET1: if this is accurate, Washington state doesn’t seem to require any type of training to obtain a CCW permit:
http://www.usacarry.com/washington_concealed_carry_permit_information.html
While no “training” is required neither in California (Hunter’s class? a paper test? really?) this person is dangerous and perfectly shows how ridiculous their thinking is …
For starters I don’t know anyone that knows about guns that just randomly grabs a gun that doesn’t feel comfortable and uses it as his/her carry gun, the biggest problem is that now that she has a gun she feels nervous and I completely understand that! for me when I started thinking on carrying I swear it would make my hands sweat, but then I realized it was because I did not feel comfortable with the gun, it was MY fault, not the “gun’s fault” it was MY lack of preparation that made me dangerous to carry a gun, so while I don’t carry it I try to train and learn from my gun as much as possible (I still proudly can say I can field strip my 1911 without tools in around 15 seconds, Ed Brown’s field strip style is way better than the original in my point of view but YMMV)
Now I can’t carry (Aha, really? carry? on the bay area? good luck getting the permit) but I feel comfortable thinking about it, I’m prepared …
These people are just plain dangerous, @32 i bet you she carries condition 1, she is THAT stupid, because ignorance is bliss she will have the glock chambered and only that will make her nervous, there is a great video from Colion Noir that explains what she is feeling, obviously as she is an idiot didn’t inform herself of the responsibility but .. here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMbIC0RPBRs
Well…. Pat @24 provide a link to Washington State’s concealed carry requirements… I’d Be out some donuts if anyone had taken me up on my Bet.
“I’m curious to know which irresponsible state let her obtain a CCW permit without either an approved CCW class or a DD214. That’s an epic FAIL on the part of the state, to let a complete douchenozzle such as she to carry concealed.”
Many states allow concealed carry with no training and at least four with no permit. Sober minded folks know it’s a dangerous tool that requires care. She is treating it as a game, not a responsibility*.
* One of the members on THR coined that statement.
You know, wild eyed optimist that I am, I am thinking that this might be a “Damascus road” moment for her; maybe she will use her new firearm to protect herself or others from harm or maybe she will carry it for a month with no incident and come to see how foolish her previous attitude was.
It would be pretty awesome if a member of the board of the Brady campaign became a CCW advocate.
@20…being a student of science, I loved your LHC reference
@45 – it’s really hard to carry a striker-fired gun in condition one, and even harder for her to engage a manual safety.
