Anonymous Marine comments on Joshua Boston’s letter
CNN’s iReports, the same people who made Joshua Boston’s open letter to Diane Feinsten famous, print a response to Boston’s letter from some anonymous person who claims that he/she is also a Marine. Not a four-tour combat Marine like Boston, but a journalist, a Marine nonetheless;
When I read about the open letter…I couldn’t help but feel temporarily ashamed of also sharing the title of former Marine. Boston defiantly refuses to register his guns even if laws are passed requiring him to do so. In this refusal, he comes off as tone-deaf and unsympathetic to the victims of mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, and so many other places. His ranting letter is paranoid exhibition of one concerned not with preventing the deaths of more innocents, but of maintaining his rights to own devices of war. I want to set the record straight, not all Marines are so insensitive to the recent tragedies, or ignorant about the need for arms restrictions.
While I did not experience combat, I served in Afghanistan as a Marine, exiting the service as a Sergeant in 2008 to enter college. My experiences in the Marine Corps of course led me to train with semi and fully automatic weapons, and yet, I have no desire to own these weapons now that I am out of the service. I can’t see why any civilian needs semi-automatic, high-capacity weapons designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, and I support a ban of future sales in addition to a retroactive ban that would force Joshua Boston to relinquish his weapons.
Boston’s attitude towards authority is frankly disgusting and his open letter is wrong in both its assumptions about why the gun-control debate has become heated, and the reasons why we should care about his opinions at all. It implies that because he served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine, that he can choose which laws to obey while at home. This is of course, incorrect, and gives other veterans a bad name. Regardless of his personal beliefs about gun-control, Boston should obey the law, or stop using the title of Marine veteran so proudly.
The article headline calls Boston “gun worshipping Marine veteran”. I haven’t seen anyone “worship” guns, per se. But, ya know at least Boston attached his name to his letter, he didn’t cower behind some indecipherable screen name. When someone asked me if Boston had really been a Marine, I was able to verify it. Not so with this dude/chick.
What gets me is the people who say “I don’t own guns and I don’t think anyone else should either” or “no one needs high capacity magazines”. They’re the same sort of people who cheer for the tax hike on richer Americans. Personally, I don’t see the use for video games, or Airsoft gear, or NASCAR, or any of a thousand things that I think are stupid. But, I’m not trying to take those things away from people.
Some other anonymous dingus took exception to my comment about people not needing Porsches or Ferraris saying those cars aren’t used to kill large numbers of people. Neither are my guns, which I bought legally and are locked up in my gun safe until I want to use them. You probably also don’t understand why I enjoy cigars – that’s your problem.
Category: Gun Grabbing Fascists
Anonymous “Marine” here must have forgotten the oath of enlistment that he probably never took anyway.
I know if I were going to worship guns, I would probably offer human sacrifices to them, preferably people that think that legislation that doesn’t exist yet should be preemptively obeyed. Too bad such sacrifice wouldn’t be covered under the free exercise clause.
Didn’t some fly-by, troll-tool, bring up Nuremberg on another thread? Here it is: a fellow like Boston would be the kind of Marine that would follow up his obligation to disobey an unlawful order. This particular Marine-cum-PoisePantyLiner is entirely too eager to obey laws that don’t exist yet. Between the two, which would break down more positively under Milgram’s obedience tests?
I was, until recently, convinced that we have to “do something”, but “something” seems to be purposeless. “Doing nothing” seems preferable to afflicting reasonable people with concepts that yield no result.
Dingus said: “I support a ban of future sales in addition to a retroactive ban that would force Joshua Boston to relinquish his weapons.”
Clearly this idiot does not know his 4th and 5th Amendments to the Constitution.
I also find it ironic how libtards support civil disobedience for their causes, but it’s not allowed for our causes.
They were able to hit pretty much every single liberal talking point in three paragraphs.
Dear “anonymous” Dumbass:
We don’t “worship” guns so much as we worship and cherish our RIGHTS, which include the RIGHT to have weapons, even ones you might not like.
Remember that if certain rights are at risk, ALL rights are at risk, whether you like them or not. Sleep well, knowing your betters are carrying the weight you can’t/won’t.
Oh, and I’d love to see an FOIA on this character, but then again they probably knew that when they didn’t have the fucking stones to sign their names to their work.
Do the Marines have a “camp follower” MOS?
“I can’t see why any civilian needs semi-automatic, high-capacity weapons designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible”
This seems a little suspicious, almost sounds as if he is confusing auto with semi-auto.
I noticed some of the same liberal boilerplate strawmen arguments in this response that I have seen in almost every statement from those who support gun grabbing, i.e., “… I can’t see why any civilian needs semi-automatic, high-capacity weapons designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible, and I support a ban of future sales in addition to a retroactive ban that would force Joshua Boston to relinquish his weapons.”
Notice the “designed to kill as many people as quickly as possible” bit. You will see it in almost all the screeds against gun ownership. My other point is if he doesn’t want to own such weapons, fine, don’t buy them, but don’t force the rest of us to conform to your views.
I don’t own any of those type weapons, yet, but with this latest temper tantrum from the left I am tempted to buy one just to piss them off further. Yes I own guns, but I have my own preference.
I also remember something I heard from my Infantry days, since the beginning of time 99% of all weapons used or designed were designed with one purpose in mind, to kill or maim the average Infantryman. Whether it was rock like Cain used against Abel or it’s nuclear bombs, man can turn anything within reach into a weapon with which to kill his fellow man.
That’s the problem here Jonn, they think they can dictate what you “need”. They mean to do it in terms of health care, the size and sugar content of the beverages you choose to drink, and what you like to do in your leisure time.
They also have no intention of conforming to those rules they create for you. They will still be armed for their own protection. They will still get their own special health care, and they will drink whatever they damn well please….
Sounds a lot like the commies to me…
I would venture a guess that “Anonymous” was a desk jockey that only joined for the college money. And I would put my next paycheck on it that they had no clue to the meaning of the oath they took, nor why it is to the Constitution of the United States. I will go futher in saying that none of their college courses were Constitutional law or in depth American history.
Only un-educated individuals still believe the Second Amendment was written to protect our Hunting clubs!
Along with #3/Rock8 mentioned from the article: “…and I support a ban of future sales in addition to a retroactive ban that would force Joshua Boston to relinquish his weapons.”
Clearly, this “anonymous” Marine needs to read his/her Constitution, which also prohibits the passing of ex post facto laws. In other words, you can’t make what was previously legal, suddenly illegal.
In light of that, I suspect if the person really was a former service member, either he/she didn’t understand the importance of taking the oath upon enlistment, didn’t care, or had his/her fingers crossed when it was taken.
Call me crazy, but I believe the letter is BS.
The construction is circumspect, it jumps around and really does not focus on one point.
Furthermore, I have yet to meet a real Marine that will not put his name on something.
And again, I question the veracity of this “Marine’s” claims, because even though I’m just a dumbass squid, my experience with M-16’s versus my own “hunting weapons” or older rifles lends credence to what one poster (I forget who, sorry) who suggested I get another higher-powered weapon instead of an AR-15 “poodle killer”.
Try hitting a target 600-plus yards off with an AR-15 and dropping it with one shot. Now do the same with a .30-06, .300 WinMag, .338 Lapua, etc. YMMV.
Fortunately Mr. Anonymous Marine’s paranoid ranting does not represent the views of Marines nor the Marine Corps in it’s entirety. If anything it represents the views of a certain group of people that just don’t seem to get it, and probably never will. That being said, anonymous “Marine”, get bent you fucking douche rocket.
@3 and 11: I will then force everyone who votes to have a legitimate, state issued ID, that proves you are a citizen of this country and are legal to vote. What? That’s a Constitutional right? So what? If it’s good for us, it’s good for you.
Only makes sense that this “marine” is anonymous right, not like they would make up a person to refute the original letter to push their agenda….would they?
OT–racist. Don’t you know you can’t challenge the liberal agenda?
This is a good example of the Liberal/Progressive vs Conservative mindset. If a Conservative doesn’t like something or some particular action, he doesn’t engage in it. He doesn’t try to get it banned for everyone.
The Liberal/Progressive is much more Fascist in his actions. He basically wants to inflict his value system upon everyone by any means necessary.
For myself, I’ll not submit, I’ll resist, I’ll not retreat. I aim to misbehave.
MAJike: think you might need to double-check your screen-name here, amigo. Looks like something “hiccuped” there.
if that guy made sgt in the corps, they might want to re-examine their promotion criteria. there’s a lot of guys on this site who i would stand with, army and marine, who have been under fire. by his own admission, he hasn’t been. even though i was only a convoy escort MP, and not a grunt, where the water really hits the wheel, i wouldn’t want to have to rely on this guy. and like sparky, i like a heavier round. the M14 was the best rifle i ever used.
That doesn’t sound like any Marine I’ve ever known. Maybe there are some somewhere, but that writer’s skin didn’t sound thick enough to me. Anybody ever heard a Marine use any of the following words: “insensitive,” “ashamed,” “unsympathetic,” “ignorant,” or “exhibition.”
Reaperman: I believe I’ve heard a Marine or two use the word “ignorant”. But if I recall correctly, it was generally followed by a hyphenated word or two that I won’t repeat here. (smile)
Anyone else have trouble concealed carrying their M240Bs?
No way is the writer a Marine. Every Marine I know actualy has a pair.
Every time I hear the exotic-car comparison I think of douchebag Wendell Turley (think that name is spelled right) who was one of the original sue-the-gun-manufacturer liability lawyers. Believe it was 60 Minutes that did a segment on him, in which he roundly condemned “these things that were built with the sole purpose of breaking the law” – as he was climbing into his Ferrari.
Confiscation: I would think “OK, they can have ’em… as long as I get to make up a list of what I consider harmful and you confiscate them, too”. Let me see… what could I ban….
@23, I know my M2 leaves a buldge in my jacket.
Marine takes torch as Spokesman for Sanity…
Cpl Joshua Boston, former Marine, stepped into the spotlight following his open letter challenging Senator Feinstein’s gun grab legislation, and calling Britain’s Piers Morgan to return to the island of Banned Guns. Boston is representing sanity fair…
This is the kind of Marine that, when given the Executive Order, with go down American streets kicking in American doors.
The letter writer, if in the Marine Corps… was definitely a Blue Falcon…
If I didn’t know better, I’d swear that this “Marine’s” letter was written by the Brady Campaign. The phraseology and construction matches what and how they’ve been saying the shit they say for years.
James: hey – what you got against this classic super-hero? (smile)
Semi-seriously: anyone think TAH needs an “Order of the Blue Falcon” award for those who “blue falcon” their brothers/sisters-in-arms? Or a formal “Ballduster McSoulpatch Memorial Stolen Valor Award”? I certainly don’t have the graphic arts skills to come up with a design for either, but someone out there might. And I’m sure we could come up with a few good ideas for whoever might design either or both.
Another attempt at moral equivalence that fails under the first light. The title is Marine, not former Marine or ex-Marine. Marines would say, I did a combat deployment in Afghanistan, but did not see actual combat. Marines will say the unit to which attached, it is bona fides. Lastly, Marine veteran? That is also not a title, Marine is the only title earned. ‘Marine veteran is a bumper sticker’. And amazingly, the king of all missed terms, not one Semper Fidelis. Especially when trying to convince Cpl Boston (no reference to rank, either) that he would be a criminal. No remember the words Semper Fidelis is “Always Faithful”. Just a form letter with insert branch of service here. I really like the term tone-deaf, hmmm who else is tone deaf? Everybody who believes in the second amendment and the NRA earned that particular moniker. Nice FAIL anonymous.
I don’t know if it still is but when I was there the Ft. Campbell High School was the Falcons. Their primary color was blue. I don’t know if it was accidental or someone back in the day had a sense of humor.
As I pointed out in my article yesterday, twice as many people are killed with “personal objects” such as hands and feet(728 in 2011), as ALL types of rifles(323 in 2011). Will they attempt to force us to turn those in as well?
Dear Anonymous Marine,
I’m betting you were an ASVAB waiver also. Go away and leave the grownups alone.
I’m not buying it. No way that was penned by a Marine. Maybe figured “Hey, I went swimming once, and that’s just like being a Marine isn’t it?” and decided to claim the title.
So if there is a rift between law and the constitution and people start making their on interpretations of rules, granted it’s not ideal, but isn’t that one of the legitimate paths to fighting unjust laws. Somebody gets caught not registering their weapons, then it starts slogging up through the courts, right? Granted it’s a gamble I’m not one to take.
If the ‘letter writer’ is a Marine, I was door gunner for the last shuttle mission! FIRST and foremost, I still hold the title “United States Marine”. During my time in I was taught “obedience to orders”…NOT “BLIND obedience to orders”! We have a process here that says our elected representatives are supposed to sit down and finger out what’s best (okay, so it don’t happen that way but it’s SUPPOSED to) for us as a country. If Joe Bite-me, comrades omammy and feinstooge think they’re just gonna TELL me what I must do, they took better drugs than I ever did and they better be ready for a fight if they think they’re gonna just take them from me.
[…] Had to add this choice comment from TAH […]
Hell, I was a squid and knew a bunch of Marines when I was in. If this guy served in the Corps, then I’ll eat my damn dog dish cover.
More lefty false flag bullshit.
If you can’t claim your own name and sign as Anonymous, then don’t try to hide behind the title Title “Marine”. I’m betting its either completely falsified or if it was a Marine its from some disillusioned terd who spent minimum contact with combat arms MOSs or weapons in General. Perhaps its one of Breanna Manning’s Gay Pen Pals.
#41 that did sound like one of the biggest POGs ever writing it, if it was actually a Marine at all.
If that was a Marine I’m a striped-ass wombat.
Semper Fi
I served active duty, Marine Air Wing, ’78 – ’84. No such thing as “former Marine”. Once A Marine, Always A Marine!
It looks like CNN thought this was a good enough story to do a follow-up. The anon Marine is now named as Nicolas DiOrio. I am, of course a firm follower of the “trust but verify” rule.
Sadly all groups have a 10% and no doubt this Marine is part of that group which John Murtha also belonged too. No doubt this is from a POG as bitch though. This one time at MCT I got to press the trigger on a machine gun therefor there is no need for the 2nd amendment!
The picture on CNN’s followup says a lot.
Found a Nick Diorio in a 2008 “Story Corps” bit ( by the way this Corps has nothing to do with the Marines) Seems he was a Marine Journalist Corporal from Colorado. Not impressive.
I am getting quite depressed about the divide in this country. On the one hand, we have people who know, understand, and believe in the Constitution, and on the other, we have people who want to live in a benevolent dictatorship or monarchy where their every need is taken care of – for “free”.
I don’t see any resolution to such a divide, except either a conservative coup, or just splitting the country in half.
Well, DiOrio is worried about Marines appearing “insensitive and Uncaring”. Oh Noes, that’s really something to worry about.
And, he’s all OK with ex post facto laws? Sounds like he oughta get together with TAH’s own rock-climbing ignorant hero, Joey boy.
UpNorth: Nyet, nyet! Use proper form of address! Proper title is
“Comrade Joseph, Glorious Hero of Rock Climbing for Greater Glory Socialist Republic of Durango”!
