Someone did the hard work for us on this ass clown who calls himself Wayward Bill who is the chairman of the US Marijuana Party and supposedly spearheaded the pot initiative in Colorado last week. Of course, since he’s Vietnam-era aged, he had to claim that he needs pot to treat his PTS from the awful things that the military forced him to do in Vietnam;
Yes, as a personnel clerk, it was his job to cut off ears so the Army could keep count of the North Vietnamese Regulars that they killed. because, you know, counting is too hard for us dumbass infantrymen, we need a clerk to cut off ears for us.
Well, of course, since he’s being featured on TAH, you know his story is bullshit. Wayward Bill is really William Alvin Chengelis and he never went to Vietnam. He was a clerk in Germany. There’s nothing wrong with that, unless you tell lies about what you did to further a political agenda;
Of course, when he’s confronted with his lies, Mr. Wayward is sorry about it, but he still doesn’t come clean;

I have a confession to make. I am a Veteran, a Vietnam era Veteran. I have lied about my combat service. I served in Europe never Vietnam. My story is the story of a good friend of mine. There is some one who went and pulled up my service record and has been posting it on my wall trying to discredit me. I am not sure of their agenda but I need to clean the slate. I am sorry I lied. I told it so many times it became part of me.
So, he still wants people to believe that there were personnel clerks out collecting ears, because it happened to “a good friend of mine”. So, I guess he figures that the story is too good to die. But before our hero got Mr. Wayward’s military records, he wasn’t so apologetic;

I was married to a vet. my father is a vet. my older brother was killed in Vietnam. I grew up watching them load bomb trucks on Guam. I know a little about Vets too There are “phoneys” everywhere. What you did was MEAN> If you want to call someone out do it in private. These people have enough demons. I have a lot better things to do with MY life then filing FOIA requests to see if people are “phoneys” and how many people do you know that sent ears home? I know people that did and the people they sent them to. Ask Medea Benjamin about it some time. Expose what you want. My job is to help people that need help even if they lie.Do you ask someone with a sign on the corner hey can I file a FOIA request to see if you are avet before I help you? I know Bill is a vet he couldn’t get benefits otherwise. His hep c is service related not from drugs. Did they clean the gun they innoculated you with? Yeah, my neighbor’s cousin’s dog was once owned by a veterinarian so I know a real military veteran when I see one. And Medea Benjamin could tell me that it’s raining and I’d have to go out and get soaking wet before I believed her. I guess outing a phony isn’t being KIND enough to the folks who actually did serve in Vietnam and DIDN’T cut off ears? Those guys are the reason I decided to post about this POS phony on Veterans’ Day.

His Hep C is “service related”, eh? I wonder if Ms. Ryder knows that 60% of US Hep C infections are estimated to be traceable to IV drug use. Only 15% are traceable to medical care. The cause of the remaining Hep C infections are split between sexual transmission (15%) and unknown causes (10%).
I also wonder if Ms. Ryder knows IV drug use wasn’t exactly unknown in early-1970s Eurpoe – or in the US. And I’d love to know who Chengelis was “hanging with” while he was a deserter in 1971. I’m guessing he was trying to “turn on/tune in/drop out” at the time.
I love how he states on his page that he’s basically protecting you from his mob. You should probably just give up now. After all, Claire is out to sting you and is going to ruin your reputation among the veteran community. This guy must be high…oh, wait; he is.

He is 59 years old and went to Youngstown State University studying political science, constitutional law, and journalism although he never finished to receive a degree. He is also a Vietnam era war US Army Veteran. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Wayward Bill currently is considered disabled (crippled left hand, bi-polar, PTSD) and lives on a meger VA non-service connected disability pension. He is a licensed medical cannabis patient for severe pain in his left hand. He knows first hand the discrimination by both VA and HUD invoked on cannabis patients.

Old Trooper: that happens from time to time – a 31+ day AWOL (DFR at 30 days AKA deserter) gets apprehended and convinces the military that they really didn’t have intent to stay away permanently, so he isn’t courts-martialed. In Chengelis’ case, it looks like they sent him to a different school for his 2nd AIT.
And if this jackass is getting a non-service-connected disability pension – he’s not doing all that bad. It’s close to $20k a year, tax-free – and close to $24k if he’s married.
It’s basically free money, and it doesn’t require a service connection. But you do have to be in fairly bad shape to get it. Or be a good con artist.

I find it very KIND that people like John point out these jerks using fake service to advance their political careers and collect undeserved benefits.
Worst part is people on his page are defending him and telling him “awww, it’s alright Bill…” because they just don’t get it. I was going to respond, but not gonna bother. It would be a waste of time.
I’ve been deployed three times and I bet if I applied for PTS, it’d take 20 years to get a response, but he gets “deployed” to Germany during Viet Nam and gets PTS / carpal tunnel syndrome disability. I’ve been to Germany, I can see why you’d get PTS from being stationed there. Sometimes, you actually have to tip waitresses to get more beer, the poor bastard.
They should make everyone of these guys who fakes disability help with the paperwork to speed up the process for real veterans with real issues to get processed. As many fakes as there are, I bet it’d take about a month to be caught up, with or without Shinseki failing to lead.

BTW to answer a few questions. I also got busted for sales of marijuana and possession for sale of marijuana while in the service. I had a Chapter 10 and my CO went to bat for me because he liked me and saw the potential in me to finish out honorably which I did. He was the reason for my new AIT and for me to go on. I did him right because he did me right. I actually have 89 days bad time. I have an article 15 for writing FUCK YOU on the mess roster. I also got another article 15 for hashish in Germany. The reason for the 1973 reduction in rank. Hey I haven’t lived an exemplary life by many of the status quo’s standards but we sure did knock their sox off when we got weed regulated the other day. We spoke, the world shuddered, and now the status quo has to answer. The Drug War is over!

I am not one to judge anyone,But I have a son who is in the military and has been for 16 or so years. He has been in some precarious positions that made me wonder what really happens..I felt there were times he might not come home,and his friends either. I can’t say what is true or not here,but I can tell you I am so dissapointed,down to the core of my being.

Chengelis is only entitled to his VA pension and medical care because his leadership kept cutting him serious breaks despite repeated evidence he was a shitbird – desertion, repeated drug use, drug dealing, repeated Article 15s, etc . . . . Had they discharged him with an OTH (Chapter 10) or courts-martialed him, he’d probably not be entitled to his VA pension and medical care. Those same VA $$$ currently used to support Chengelis could be used to help a deserving vet instead.
Bottom line: don’t be reluctant to drop the hammer if it’s justified.

I can not speak for him though and did not read the above posts as they were so ignorant, juvenile and full of hate. I have Complex PTSD due to molestation, rape and domestic abuse of every kind. If it weren’t for people like him I wouldn’t have a fighting chance. Cannabis is far safer than ANY of the FDA drugs they cram down our throats offering us no other alternative. I have to take those to battle my seizures due to epilepsy. I have to get regular liver testing to make sure those FDA drugs don’t destroy my liver. Cannabis is safe. #43 You know scientists have shown that long term pot use causes damage to the memory centers of the brain among other areas as well as the lungs since you’re inhaling smoke and all. If you’re going to advocate pot, at least make sure science has your back on claims like that.
