I was a Sergeant then. The accomodations were Quonset huts (with a view of Fuji out the back window…a nice way to wake up in the morning) and shower/head blocks at the end of each row of huts. We used beer cans to decorate our Christmas tree in the hut. They make colorful ornaments, and we had tons of fun emptying them!”

Old Trooper

I would send one of mine, but I don’t show up on film. Plus, when I got divorced, I think my ex threw out the ones I did have, except for the one that’s in my BT book and that one is just bad.

Ex-Ph2, though, all I can say is…..hubba hubba!

SFC Holland

Dang! Hubba. And I second your observation that it is an impressive rack.

lucky

I’ll shoot you my photo in a bit.

Old Trooper

Jeebus, Lucky, you look like you’re barely out of high school!!

Man, I gotta get my walker, now, and head down to the bridge tourney at the senior center before all the lemon bars are gone!!! (well, that’s how you youngsters make me feel!) I have to start hanging around with Lilyea more so I can feel young again 😛

lucky

OT: I just hit ten years in the Army last month, turned 28 Tuesday, graduated from BNCOC Phase 2 Thursday, and got my conditional release to go to either the 85th or 95th Civil Affairs Brigades yesterday! Been an eventful week!!! Lol, OT, you ain’t THAT old! I bet if I yelled “JUMPERS, HIT IT!” you would still be able to!!!

SJ

I sent one but it better not end up in the Ballduster Mc Soulpatch Tournament section.

SJ

I bet that those with pix in Class A’s are scrutinizing their ribbon rack before hitting send. This is a tough crowd.

CI

Awesome photo SJ…I was at Camp Eagle II during Desert Shield…..it’s nice to see a picture of the original.

SFC Holland

SJ gets my vote for “hooest” hooah photo. That’s awesome right there!

SFC Holland

@7. I’ll second that! Too easy to hit send on a field pic. I have one of me in A’s, my wife, and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson that would have everyone screaming BS!

Yat Yas 1833

Fellas, great pics, Ooorah. PH2… HOTAAY!?;)

Ne Desit Virtus

Watch out SFC Holland, I just read an article about a PSG getting relieved for being out on patrol with their sleeves rolled up! They have CSMs dressed up as afghan civilians and they just jump out of nowhere to make piddly uniform corrections. Beware!

Redacted1775

You go to war and garrison breaks out…ain’t it great?

Stu

I’m in, I found one thats not corny.

SFC Holland

12@ LMFAO! That was great. thanks brother.

Jabatam

Are we voting again? EX-PH2 definitely

SFC Holland

not corny!?! lol! I’ll send you some air force goofballs’ halloween pics from the ‘stan 07-08. Our JTAC team as a witch and a viking. Still gives me chills just thinking about it!

Sgt K

Speaking of tough crowds, yes, that’s a Spec4 tab on me but I got promoted shortly thereafter. Just wanted to get that out there.

Just Plain Jason

PH2, that is classic beauty right there.

I have to see if I can get one sent to you guys.

SJ

Love all of them but Stu’s is fantastic.

Stu

I sent 2, first one was real studly, outside an IP HQ in battle rattle, and the comic relief was the second one, which does he use, the one that shows the clown in me. But isn’t that part of our lifestyle? (or wasn’t it part of our lifestyle in times gone by)

Stu

CI, I lived right next door to you in the Storm, or rather after the ground war was over. There was an AF compound there called Eagle.

I was over in Camp Jack & Jill working for the ASB running the rickety Saudi bus detail we used to move re-deploying troops around Dharan.

Hondo

Actually, SFC Holland, Ne Desit Virtus wasn’t kidding about the guy getting releived. That made the Army Times website a couple of days ago; the article’s lead-in said it was because he had his “sleeves cuffed”. It apparently happened at FOB Tillman.

http://www.armytimes.com/prime/2012/07/PRIMEarmy-ncos-relieved-fob-tillman-073012/

Full article is behind their new paywall. I don’t subscribe, so I can’t verify details.

OWB

Some good stuff right here!

Would consider adding one, but it’s on a slide that even if I knew where it hides, would have no clue how to transmit a slide to someone via this confounded electronic computating thingie.

Anonymous

Hope there was more to relief than just issue with sleeves. Getting sacked these days in Army is almost certain death sentence to one’s career longevity.

Ne Desit Virtus

Stu, I was at Rustimiyah on Christmas during the mortar attack too. That was my 3 day on the FOB. I was an E nothing fresh out of basic. Heard the mortars going off, then rolled over and went back to sleep. Fucking cherry

Stu

Ne Desit Virtus, We had been there about 2 months at the time and were running missions into Sadr City daily. I was a PSD Squad SGT at the time. We were an Artillery unit tasked to be MP’s. We moved south a about a month or two later to Najaf and re-habed the PTT program there.

If you were one of the Armor guys then you remember what happend the next morning. Damn shame.

Ne Desit Virtus

Stu, yeah I remember. I’m not armor but our mortar platoon was part of a combined arms battalion. We had just got there to RIP with 3rd ID I was with 4th ID. Those guys were on one of their last patrols. It was quit sobering for newbie like me at the time. Rusty got wayyy worse after you left. I was such a reckless idiot that deployment I can’t believe I lived through it. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Right up until you get your head shot off

Stacy0311

DAMN there’s some old dudes around here. Looks like some of y’all had mess duty at the Last Supper or mail buoy watch on the Ark

Stu

Ne Desit Virtus, we went south to Najaf, finished up the PTT mission there and got re-tasked again this time to Diwaniya, just in time for both of the 2006 battles there. By the Grace of God my unit always had somone outside the FOB when shit went south, and we always had light WIA, and no KIA’s.

I was 44 at the time, had a 12 year break in service, joined back up to serve, had a squad of soldiers younger than my son (who was a Cav Scout up north in Tal-Afar)and they never failed to accomplish whatever task the mssion required, no whining, bitching, or complaining, it really re-newed my faith in the younger folks who are stepping up to serve. Not like back in the cold-war days where some enlisted just to have somethng to do and where slugs.

COB6

ex-PH2, were you ever stationed at Crows Landing Naval Air Station? and wore glasses at the time?

Ex-PH2

I have seldom seen such a rogues’ gallery of good-looking men! Proud to be in your company!! That photo of me was taken in 1969, in my light blues.

Thank you for the compliments, fellas. I am humbled.

Ex-PH2

@COB6, no, never at Crows Landing. I was Bainbridge for boot camp, then Pensacola for Photo “A” School, then at the Naval Photographic Center (NAPHOTOCEN) at Anacostia, next to Bolling AFB, then at Great Lakes, RTC Orlando and then Philadelphia.

lucky

Stu: As a younger Soldier, You are very welcome! I have had junior Soldier’s old enough to be my Dad in my unit, and it can make life interesting lol. Ex-PH2, thank you, I take pride in being both a Rogue, and a Ginger!

Nichevo

@33, as a young E2 I did MOUT training at was then the abandoned Bainbridge NS.

Kilo

PH2 looks like she should’ve been in Hollywood instead of the Navy! Classic beauty right there. I’ll forward one in in a few.

Ex-PH2

Now I’m blushing, Kilo.

Nichevo, somewhere I have a photo of me on the grinder with that old fighter jet in the background at Bainbridge.

COB6

Ex-PH2. They always say that everyone has a double somewhere. I swear I knew yours at Crows Landing NAS. Almost knocked me out of my chair. She was even a photographer in the Public Affairs office!

Beautiful young lady but the whole Navy/Ranger divide couldn’t be overcome, especially in those days.

Made for one hell of a couple of weeks though 🙂

Ex-PH2

COB6, Now you have me wondering what my dad was actually up to when he went off on one of his junkets. My sister and brother and I all have strong resemblance to our old man. Heehee! And I thought he was such a straight arrow. You made my day!

YatYas

Ex-PH2 and DefendUSA:
Your photos prove that the military not only turns boys into men, but girls into women.

Will admit to being the retread Gunny and staff weenie or as they say nowadays, fobbit.

Pathfinder

Who’s that handsome devil up there

Hack Stone

John Mallernee, is that a TH-81 muxer you are working on? I hated those things. BTW, where is the shop safet NCO? You shouldn’t be wearing that watch while working on the bench.

CI

@defend – Ah…the female black berets…I don’t know how you all felt about them, but damn….

Of course, if not in the other beret…we men had our screwdriver caps.

NHSparky

Sent one in. Normally I’d just post but I HATE html coding, and with my luck and BAC level I’d end up fucking something up badly.

ARoberts

Ill dig up a pic sometime tonight. Most of mine arent all that great a photos or arent in a digital format. I might have one from my reenlistment at the NV NG armory when I was there for Red Flag.

Just Plain Jason

I found two of mine one from so many years ago I don’t remember, basic training graduation, and the other smoking a cigar and driving my old truck.

Red Ghost

Great pictures of a fine bunch of Americans. TAH has given me a lot of laughs and the occasional blood pressure spike in the 3 months I’ve been here. SFC L, Afghanistan.

SFC Holland

Hondo, thanks for the heads up. I am searching for my reflector vest now. Maybe I can cut some holes in a VS-17 panel and make a poncho out of it. I don’t have my gloves on either. Afghanis won’t shake hands or do business with you if you do. Same with smoke lens eye pro.

defendUSA

CI–
I would rather have had real balls instead of proverbial ones because I adopted many of the SF and Ranger ways in the way that I operated…I think if I were Airborne, Red would have been my beret color…beats the shit out black any day. Was glad to get the “c” cap headgear!

af_res_dep

It depends on my mood if it is the prefered uniform or not… If the med board goes my way, it will be my uniform of the day soon enough.
