Dealing with an active duty phony
OK, here’s the photo. I blanked out his name tag, too;
For the folks at Wheeler-Sack, he is in one of the infantry battalions, but not an infantryman.
Early last month, someone sent me a picture that they had taken of a Fort Drum soldier who was wearing more bling than the Fort Drum CG on his uniform. And all of it was out of order.
All they had was a name and a place. I checked AKO and found the dude. I knew that because he was still on active duty, we wouldn’t be able to get his records, and of course, AKO doesn’t list awards, so we really couldn’t prove conclusively that he was faking. So I did the next best thing; AKO lists supervisors. So I emailed the picture to his squad leader.
His squad leader just wrote us back today to tell us that faker dude is getting an Article 15 (that’s Captain’s Mast to our more buoyant brethren) for engaging in douchery. His squad leader also thanked us for coming to him first.
I’d tell you his name and post the picture, but I’ll bet explaining the picture to his NCO chain of support was more painful than anything we could ever do to him.
The story was just too good to keep to myself.

Way to go, Jonn!!
Well done, amigo.
Wonder how much smaller the guy’s butt is today? I’m guessing he lost a few pounds chewed off. (smile)
Two words come to mind: OH SHIT!
Bet he won’t do that again!
Jonn, if you want I can attempt to edit the photo to remove/obscure the individual’s face, unit crests, and nametag. The resulting photo might be of interest, while preserving the (hopefully) salvageable soldier’s identity. Your call.
We had a guy pull some crap like that in my unit, claiming that he’d got a silver star and two purple hearts in Iraq. He was just out of AIT and was showing up for his first drill in the National Guard. The First Sergeant put out at the NCO meeting before drill that anyone with a patch on their right arm was that little douches God for the weekend.
Yes, I would like to see the uniform, not so much the face/unit
Concur with #4 and #6. I don’t need the face to post him to my wall of shame!
I wonder just how long this clown is going to be on Tops crap list?
Dear lord. I work at Wheeler Sack Army Airfield and my newest lunchtime hobby is this website. How can you tease me and all the other rotor wing peoples out here with such tempting news? That’s horrible to do to us man! Horrible!
NEVER piss off your squad leader
Was he a new kid or a real dumbass? I remember after basic training we had a lot of knuckelheads go to the PX and buy a bunch of ribbons and put them on their Class As. Didn’t take long for a few drill sergeants to take care of the problem.
Awesome!!! Nothing more better than catching them young ones in the act wearing either bling or Rank that they have not earned.
I always remember handling things at the lowest level. It is handled…I just hope that Pvt Schmuckatelli learned his lesson.
I still remember being at 82nd Replacement many years ago and seeing the UCMJ posted on the bulletin board there. The one that stuck with me was an E-7 busted for wearing stuff he didn’t earn. If I remember correctly, it included a CIB, Master Wings, Ranger Tab, etc. without authorization. He was busted down to E-4. In all my time on AD, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen it in person. I imagine this kid’s team leader is getting an ear-full right now. Being a team leader was probably the best time of my career, and also the hardest. Back then you made sure that the E-4s kept the Privates in line or they paid the price. That was the E-4 mafia I remember, not the losers who always have an appointment or are shamming out of doing work.Sorry, not sure where that came from, just got started with the wayback machine. Gotta be careful there.
Naw. We don’t need to see it, just know that it is handled. Un;ess he does it again – then all previous agreements are off.
Funny that Just Plain jason mentioned Pvt Schmuckatelli in post #13. While working as a slimy contractor in the Pentagon a few years back, I was in a video teleconference with a bunch of Joint Staff and various commands spread throughout the country. The topic of a particular circuit, which has always been a problem, was addressed. I said that when I would call the location, Pvt Schmuckatelli would tell me one thing, then twenty minutes later, he would say the complete opposite. As the conference concluded, I was accosted by an Army Major who was rather livid. “I was stationed there three years, and there is no Pvt Schmuckatelli assigned there!” She probably didn’t know that he was roommates with Joe Shittheragman and was dating Suzie Rottencrotch either. That’s no lie. What she said, I don’t really know who Pvt Schmuckatelli was living with or dating.
“that faker dude is getting an Article 15 (that’s Captain’s Mast to our more buoyant brethren)”
LOL!
#16- In the same squad as PVTs Tentpeg and Duffel.
Good job! Even though he’s a douche bag, you were right to use his chain of command. Maybe he will receive some counseling(I feel the “wall to wall” method is best) and become a decent soldier. Either way, he’s still a soldier and his face should be all over the place!
Should “not” be all over the place…
Class. Pure class.
@ 16 … now that is fuck*n aye oche aye funny as sh%t.
Is that a DSC? I am not retarded just half blind!
MCPO NYC USN (Ret.): I think the first one’s the PH (out of order).
ROG That HONDO.
I can remember once … that I did put something on my uniform that did not belong. The mustard stain did not go over well with my first Chief. The BTC had big feet like me and he put that steel toed boondocker square on my sacrum (ass bone, tail bone, whatever the fu*k you want to call it hurt like friggin hell bone). Never did that again. That is my uniform story for the night.
Well played, Jon, well played indeed!
Pvt Joe Schmuckatelli fucks up a lot of shit and is a good troop to learn what not to do from. I imagine he has a cousin or brother in all the services.
AWESOME JOOB! I bet he is going to be doing alot of extra duty.
What made this particular asshelmet think he can actually get away with this shit???
GOOD JOB OUTSTANDING!
We’re dealing with one now and here’s his information:
Randy German
gunnyrandy@yahoo.com
This piece of work is trying to tell everybody that he’s a Ranger, Marine and everything else. I’ve issued him a challenge, and he has yet to answer me I wonder why, Oh is that because he can’t!
His Facebook page is Randy German if you want to look him up, he changes it like a damn chamellion!
That’s AMAZING! Ill bet someone is pushing while NOT getting paid right now. lol. I’m new to this site, and I already love it. Keep it up guys!
When I got out of Air Force basic training I had a basic ribbon and a marksman ribbon. Four years later I had a good conduct, achievement, commendation medals, PME, outstanding unit ribbons, Jump, HALO, and scuba devices. Even tho Air Force uniforms are very low key it was a pain to make sure they were clean, polished and placed and spaced properly! Why would you want more to mess with than what you earned?
Hey Sgt, I tried to look randy german up on facebook but there are a few of them and they all have private pages. Is he the kid with the buzz cut and shades?
Like.
FYI: This guy is in my unit–used to be my company. This picture was all over the batallion right after it came out on facebook. He is a medic… and a total douchebag. He has a deployment under his belt, on which he did absolutely nothing but sit in an aid station because they couldn’t trust him outside the wire. Just so everyone knows: he has been completely shunned and nobody will talk to him anymore unless they have to.
Post it! It may not be worth it to you but it’s worth the justice that will be redeemed!
If this guy had any plans for a long career in Army, he might as well start thinking about civilian employment pronto. In todays downsized force, any black mark on your record will have Army human resource managers sharpening the hatchets. An Article 15 seems like almost certain denial for continued service when its time to re-up.
His name is SPC James XXXXXXX. His picture went viral within an hour and everyone in the BN knew about it. Surprisingly, he is not getting punished because when he first came to the unit, he did the same thing and he is claiming that this picture is from that time..aka double jeopardy
Ok, where is all the bling? He has a CMB, Air Assault/Airborne badges, Foreign Jump Wings, German Schützenschnur. Yes, the Purple Heart is out of order with the Bronze Star with V Device. He has the Afghanistan Campaign and the NATO Ribbon and the overseas which should have a two due to his deployment. I am an officer and have more than that due to my OIF deployment and Marine Corps ribbons.
I have seen much worse but you should not even wear one award that you have not earned. I dont care if it is an extra AAM.
Also, you got lucky this time but it could of backfired. I have seen people receive EO complaints and get written up for using AKO and violating people’s privacy. If it was legit, that person probably could have talked to a lawyer about people spying on them trying to invalidate their claims. You should of confronted the individual first.
41, The photo did not come from AKO, it came from Facebook. If you post something publicly on Facebook, it’s out there.
The vast majority of awards/ badges on that uniform are not his.
Inexcusable, especially due to the fact that he’s on active duty.
If I was his squad leader, I’d also have him at attention at the CQ desk, and have him keep coming back in different uniforms, (Class A, MOP Level 4, etc etc) and each time read the regs regarding each award/badge in the Army before getting the shit smoked out of him and having to double time back to his room to change to the next level of uniform, double time back, and do it all over again. For Every.Fucking.Badge/Award.
Then I’d also have him locked up at parade rest at the CQ desk for a few hours every day after hours holding a sign around his neck that said “I am a valor thief”
You cannot do that nowanddays since that is considered hazing. Counsel, punish appropriately and drive on. Hopefully, he learned his lesson.
The only time I have worn the “wrong” awards is when the Clothing and Sales was out of oak leaf clusters, so I went to the ball sporting 6 AAMs instead of 7.
Geez, will they never learn? When I was a PFC in the 502nd, Ie had a squad leader that was a Vietnam Vet (yup, I have been in that long) with the 101st. He wore a CIB but was jacked up. He didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground. Finally, the 1SG commented that he couldn’t believe this guy was a combat vet as jacked up as he was. After he pulled the guy’s file, it was discovered that he had been a supply Sergeant in Vietnam and recassed to Infantry after the Vietnam War. He got busted but still retired as a SSG. I saw him 2 years ago in the PX at Ft Hood working in the electronics section. I was in uniform and he didn’t recognize me. He began talking to me about when he was a grunt in “the ‘Nam.” After a little bit I asked him if he remembered me and when he said “no,” I reminded him that he had been my Squad Leader and that I remembered him getting busted for claiming he had been a grunt in Vietnam. He got all flustered and said he had no memory of that. He was a shit head then and is still a shit head.
My husband is an AIT instructor at Fort Gordon. When there is an ASU/Class A inspection, everyone’s ERB is printed out and verified during the inspection. This is made very clear prior to, to students, cadre, and instructors. It’s unfortunate that these Soldiers don’t have the fear of God instilled in them before doing such idiotic actions. Just a thought that if more Units did this, the POSers would be dwindled down to those never in or faking service after they’re out. Just my two cents. Thank you all for preserving what is sacred.
@41 since when is a Soldier’s first line supervisor privileged private information?
“Ok, where is all the bling?”… “hazing”… Are you taking on the role of this guys apologist?
41/45. I don’t know but 43 does not meet my definition of hazing. This guy set himself up by lying dishonoring is unit and fellow soldier. I think that 43 is letting him off light. If I were his bc and the co cdr wasn’t quick enough to preempt a court martial (BCD special) with UCMJ, I’d make an example of this trooper nobody in the battalion would forget, particularly if he wanted to play shithouse lawyer. Then he can have his dishonorable discharge which will haunt him long after he is forgotten even here.
