Cleaning house; the Army/Navy version (Updated)

| December 13, 2011

Greg and Tman sent us links to a couple of disciplinary problems. First up is Sergeant Major Teresa L. King who is the commandant of the Drill Sergeant School in Fort jackson, SC. You may remember a few years ago it was national news when she assumed the position. Even Oprah WInfrey recognized her accompishment of being the first female commandant of that school. Well, according to the Army Times, she’s no longer functioning in that position for disciplinary reasons;

“She is still the commandant of the school. She is not carrying out the duties as commandant,” said Stephanie Slater, a spokesperson for the command.

Slater would not elaborate on the circumstances behind King’s suspension, citing the ongoing investigation and King’s privacy.

“This is an internal personnel action, and we want to respect Command Sgt. Maj. King’s privacy,” Slater said.

So I guess we can just speculate in the comments about what has caused the downfall of the mighty. If I’d known this particular nugget before, I would have guessed she wouldn’t last long;

King has the nickname of “Sergeant Major No Slack” after the “noslack” vanity plates on her black Corvette.

Sergeant Majors who drive Corvettes with vanity plates are always trouble.

The next story is about a true dick in the Navy who used his subordinates to entertain his family at a reunion;

A Navy skipper who lost his command this summer was fired in part for making his Sailors work on a Sunday to help him host a family reunion at which he allowed his relatives to drive military vehicles and go for rides on a landing craft, according to a Navy investigation report.

I guess he thought it was his own personal Navy. I know the bubbleheads are glad he’s not a nuc. But there have been a number of O-5s bite the big weenie in the last year. If I was an O-5, I’d just run for it with my retirement intact because it looks like the new regime is cleaning house. Especially in wetter services.

UPDATE: On SGM King, someone sent us some inside information that I don’t mind sharing. Apparently SGM King was boinking a subordinate and had a serious drinking problem – both serious infractions for the military. I saw a lot of senior NCOs losing their jobs for excessive drinking. It’s been going on for thirty years, you’d have thought King would have noticed.

What about Specialists who drive Corvettes (recently returned from deployment) with vanity plates??…

And so…CSM Majors is pulling a rabbit out of her magic hat. And because she felt smug and above everyone else got her fluffy little tail in a nine line bind, right In the meanwhile, Mr. “I am the US Navy” shows off his power..lessness. Hmmm

streetsweeper

@ #1- Report ’em to the Provost Marshal if they exhibit speed above their pay grade?

K.J. Hinton

Got to wonder… Is Oprah going to brag about this now?

NHSparky

22 CO’s fired in the Navy so far this year. Still 3 weeks to go. And frankly, the IG was slow to nail this bastard to the wall. Time was if someone even THOUGHT of this crap they were shown the door.

The Navy is an 18th Century organization, being dragged kicking and screaming into the 19th.

NHSparky

Brown told investigators that at the time he saw the event as no different than the skipper of a ship bringing his family to see his vessel.

If it was just the duty section and nothing special was done, then yeah, you might have had a point, Commander. But you called people in and dragged half the shit in your command onto a beach where even your XO said it was a shitty idea.

Have fun running that Starbucks in Virginia Beach.

CI Roller Dude

Army Sergeant Majors are totally useless. After 20 years, I couldn’t figure out what purpose they served. In Bosnia for SFOR 14, we only had 1,200 soldiers, but 9 (NINE!!!) Sergeant Majors…none of them actually had a job…but they all went around like they were the HMFIC and just annoyed working folks daily.
and then there’s the dumbass we had in Iraq who had Negligent Discharges on the Fifty Cal— a total useless retard.

CI

CSMs have been an invaluable asset in the war on terror! Who else could have shouldered the monumental burden of enforcing reflective belt wear and HMMWV speed limits in theater?

@ #6 Jonn – You mean the E-4 Mafia?

John Curmudgeon

If it wasn’t for sergeant majors people wouldn’t know where to poo in the field or on a deployment. Everyone would just run around with shit in their pants because they didn’t have a sergeant major their to save the day.

The most useless thing I’ve ever seen involves 2, that’s right 2, sergeant majors that were tankers walking through a motorpool with m-4s that had suppressors attached to them. First, wtf were the doing in the motor pool with their m-4s. Second, why the hell would they need suppressors for, in garrison or deployed. There is nothing I hate more than sergeant majors. They should just make their presence known, spout some bs about smoking, reflector belts or shitters and then go F themselves.

AW1 Tim

Thing about the Navy these past few years, is they’ve been an Equal Opportunity butt-kicker as far as relieving-for-cause various skippers.

Both Male & Female martinets have been sent packing, and, with only one or two exceptions, each has totally been guilty of the charges proffered.

AW1 Tim

@#12: If they could go fuck themselves, they’d never leave their quarters.

@#9: Holy fucking shit I almost fell out of my seat laughing. So True!

Back in 2006, I remember a CSM deciding that a company of Joes immediately back from an all night mission were the ones to walk around the FOB area cleaning up trash. The Pogs in other companies were exempt. A few of us offered to handle the “duty” and give the joes a break, and ultimately, the company first sergeant did the job himself rather than subject his men to that stupid CSM order. He was so smug and uncompromising, and to this day have absolutely no idea what that CSM did.

Just Plain Jason

I always hated unemployed SGMs, they made life so much better. Who would regulate who could come into the dfac? God forbid that a grunt would want to eat while being “too dirty” or your sleeves be rolled up too far when it was 120 degrees out. Power Point Ranger has a few good comics about SGMs and chow hall nazis…

NHSparky

To be fair, most of the SCPO/MCPO’s on the boats had a function as COB, EDEA (bull nuke), what have you.

On shore duty? About as useful as a football bat. Given the chance, I would have taken about 75 percent of the CPO’s when I was on recruiting duty (and about 95 percent of the CRFers of any rank) and dropped their sorry asses off the Santa Monica Pier.

DirtyMick

The rank of CSM is a rank that needs to go the fuck away. They serve no purpose but to make lives miserable on deployment. 4th ID brigade CSM flipped out when I got out of an MRAP with my mframes sitting on my beanie at COP Blessing. Really?! motherfucker this is the pech river valley that should be the least of your worries.
Then 327 infantry’s CSM coming into my AO asking me why my guys were in PTs and not ACUs during the duty day because apparently to dickhead you have to be in ACUs at all times inside the wire.
Most guys that become CSMs are shitbirds because all the good leaders get tired of the bullshit and get out

2-17 AirCav

I read her bio. She zoomed from mail clerk to shit-don’t-stink quicker than you can say, “Here’s the deal, We’ll kill this if you retire now, today.”

Mike D

Whoa…that Navy skipper reminds me of Mad Marcus Arnheiter!!

Cskmakli

I serious think they get that “I’m God” attitude at Bliss. I’ve seen some really good MSG’s go there and come back thinking the Army would shut down if it wasn’t for them. Their holier than thou sense of entitlement is usually over the top

TrapperFrank

The CSM we had for the first half of my deployment to Afghanistan in 2004, is still in, still a CSM, and still making life miserable for the troops with his nitnoid shit. The CSM that was commandant of the Drill Sergeant school is a real piece of work, read her bio. Or better yet, read between the lines of her bio. An affirmitive action, non-deploying POS.

Susan

Just out of curiosity, do any of you guys know retired CSM Eric Haney? He was one of the initial Delta guys, wrote “Inside Delta Force” and then went to Hollywood and became somebody’s something with “The Unit” (note that the SM is a great leader, no officers are ever on missions, and all officers are complete assholes). Anyway, I saw him on “Craig Ferguson” where he said that Iraq was an illegal war and that all soldiers should refuse the “illegal order” to deploy or something to that nature. I have met him a few times and it is clear he believes he walks on water.

AW1 Tim

There were a couple of Command Master Chiefs that I truly respected, and who were very much a lead-by-example type of senior NCO, but many were also of the attitude that “I’ve finally got these stripes so I don’t have to do anything else meaningful” and they always seemed to be in the way rather than useful.

Master Chief Purdy, of VP-10, the CMC when I was there, was a damned fine fellow, and I would have followed him anywhere. It’s a shame so many can’t fill the shoes they are given with their stripes.

jonace

9 years at war and no deployments. Kick her useless a$$ out.

NHSparky

Nice–got a two-fer on the good SGM, did we?

I’m guessing Oprah ain’t exactly burning up the phone lines trying to get King back on to explain why hitting the bottle and hitting that cute little Specialist aren’t exactly helping “good order and discipline.”

Protected Class Card being pulled in 3…2…1…

OWB

WOW! You Army guys must have some seriously overly promoted, underperforming (perhaps in this case a poor choice of words?) senior NCO’s! Not that there were never any of those in the USAF, but I can honestly say that the dozens of CMS’s/E-9’s I worked with/for/around during my military career were all outstanding both as individuals and in doing there jobs. And never saw any of them doing the kind of weird stuff described here.

Anonymous

I won’t say all Sergeant Majors were dirt bags that only thought of themselves while I was in. A majority of them really cared about the soldiers welfare. My last sergeant major never saw combat. We got our marching orders in Korea to deploy to Iraq. He gets out of going so he can go back to the “Old Guard.” He was a complete waste of an E-9 pay if I ever saw one.

TrapperFrank

I just wonder how many promotion and QMP boards CSM King sat on? Is her command going to be “No Slack” on CSM “No Slack”. It is my guess that she’ll submit her retirement paperwork and go quietly into the sunset. Maybe Obama will give her a job as the White House nanny or mail clerk.

Anonymous

Just read King’s bio. It says a whole lot of nothin’

Anonymous

She is obviously an affirmative action appointee just like SMA McKinney was and look how that turned out.

Elizabeth

wow. this article is some bullshit. Just because she has a corvette? Jealous much?

Spigot

@ #34 (Liz): No, not jealous at all…in fact, a vintage 75 Stingray sits in my garage as I type this.

If the what I’ve read here (and on some other sites) is confirmed, the SGM needs to be disciplined severely. I’d settle for a Formal 15-6 followed by a permanent GO LOR, and forced retirement at this point.

Additionally, the fact that she, as a senior NCO, has never…as in EVER…deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan is disgraceful. She has no…ZERO…business as the Commandant of a school where many highly decorated NCO’s pass through each year. She is so far out of her lane, it’s pathetic, as would a male with the same lack of deployment credentials.

Bobo

On the positive side, the commander has taken to quoting Teddy R. in response to his firing in the comments section of the Navy Times article. I’m sure that Teddy would approve (not). Feel free to stop by for a laugh, a good look at arrogance, and a big reason why I punched out of the Navy after my first enlistment.

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2011/08/navy-beachmaster-co-fired-080511w/

NHSparky

Bobo–I would certainly hope that’s not him making that comment, particularly when the IG is looking as to whether or not to burn him on more shit he’s pulled.

Then again, he was stupid enough to pull this stunt over the well-reasoned objections of his entire command all the way up to the XO, so I guess anything is possible.

DirtyMick

You guy should read the comments on the CSM article. You have grunts and combat arms guys asking why the hell she hasn’t deployed and every POG coming out of the wood work making veiled threats about UCMJ for disrespecting a senior nco.

NHSparky

So asking why a senior NCO hasn’t made a single overseas deployment during TWO wars is somehow “disrespectful”? Jesus, they’d probably want me drawn and quartered with some of the questions I asked of the CPO’s and officers back when I was in.

John Curmudgeon

@#36 Skynet is watching eh?

Cakmakli

HOLY HELL!!!

I was just reading about CSM King on Wikipedia and found out that she was a Drill Sergeant for 5th Battalion, 3rd BCT Brigade, at Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1984. My basic training company was E-5-3 during the same time. I then remembered a DS King in my company but because she had a different PLT I didn’t know her that well. I then looked her up in my Basic Training book and there she was.

Here is a picture of her as a E5 Drill Sergeant in 1984.

The Army’s mission is seek out and destroy our nation’s enemies. She was seeking duty positions that did not require getting her hands dirty. But at the same time get promoted cause of her gender and race. Where’s the selfless service in her career?

I can squash the rumors once and for all. I was serving in the Company HQ’s of when she was our 1SG, it started here at Fort Bragg. Her ego got inflated and she was “in her world” TOP BITCH. The Senior enlisted within the Brigade were subjected to no mentorship or NCODPs to learn off from. After the Opera Show the Command wanted a positive spin off from the baby deaths that we were having and still having today. I have seen lower enlisted soldiers with her (CSM King) and Seniors too engaging in severely unprofessional acts. Some have texts and videos of her performing sexual acts while laughing…such craziness right. So now, CSM King who a “non combat” CSM is that unique? She has dodged the deployments for sure..cowardly I say and FINALLY someone will do the right thing and retire her and she will have zero influence on our men and women in Basic Training. EGO and power equals a poor excuse of an NCO…
If you want statements of her leadership bullshit just contact her last unit, Soldiers are just waiting to unleash the evidence…CSM King is a joke…

boinking … lol

In the summer of 1956 Brigadier General Perry Hosington, Base Commander at Lincoln AFB Nebraska decided he wanted a lake to run his new speedboat on. So enlisted men from each squadron were assigned the duty on weekends of breaking up and place rocks along the edge of the Lake while it was being built. The local newspaper did an article with a picture of the airman “Volunteering” to work on (their) lake on (their) Saturday & Sunday off. Needless to say there were a number of telephone calls make to the newspaper disputing the “Volunteering” to work on our weekends off. To make a long story short, the story got back to a Four Star General in Omaha name Curtis Lemay the Commander of the Strategic Air Command which resulted in an ass chewing for our base commander and the end of our volunteering. On a final note the Lake was constructed with an island sitting in the middle which allowed the Base Commander and some higher ranking officers to race around the lake at breakneck speeds while the enlisted men and women were trying to fish from the shore.

Thomas Carney

CSM King’s two graduate degrees came from diploma mills (Alameda College and American Institute of Holistic Theology), which are both unaccredited and give “degrees” for cash. So not only is she boinking a subordinate, she has a drinking problem, her education is fraudulent. This is disgusting. She got the job because of PC BS. I’m sick of this affirmative action BS. There are plenty of MEN, including WHITE MEN who could do better than she ever could.

Anyone who has more than 5 years TIS has seen this type rise to the top before, based on “all thrust and no vector”. No Slack, but plenty Slick….. on the Right Sleeve…….

GLAD SHE GOT BUSTED

1st of all. The fact that She has not deployed and was selected for the 2nd Highest CSM POSITION? OBVIOUSLY the Military selected her for her race and becuase she is Female..

If she was drinking and did no self enroll her self into ASAP and if she was messing with a SUB she is LUCKY she is not being article 15’d.
NCO’s LIke her give the NCO Corps a Bad name.. I was and always will be a Senior Non Com.. (I am retired) and I have NEVER violated my Oath of service or the Creed of the Non Commissioned Officer..

Bottom line is She was a Bad Selection for this position.

HEY GUYS LET’S READ BETWEEN THE LINES. I CAN BET YOU THAT MANY IG COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE ON HER. MANY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN CAREERS HAVE BEEN DESTROYED ON DAMAGED BECAUSE OF HER USE OF ABUSIVE POWER WITH THE USE OF HER GROUP OF PETS ASSISTING HER. DONT YOU THINK IT IS STRANGE THAT THERE ARENT ANY COMMENTS FROM ANY OF THE FORMER OR PRESENT ASSIGNEES TO THE DRILL SGT SCHOOL UNDER HER COMMAND. I BELIEVE THIS LADY MADE HER OWN ARMY AND DISREGARDED EVERY ARMY REGULATION EVER WRITTEN. INSTEAD OF TRAINING, AND BUILDING THE MORALE OF OUR MILITARY, MOST OF HER TIME WAS DRAGGING GOOD MEN AND WOMEN THROUGH MUD. FURTHER, MORE THEN CSM KING WAS SUSPENSED IN THIS CASE.
