South Dakota Resident Awakes to Noises, Shoots Alleged Intruder

A Rapid City, South Dakota, resident awoke to noises shortly before 3:30 a.m. and shot an alleged intruder who was attempting to make entry through a window.Newscenter1 noted officers arrived and found the alleged intruder suffering from a single gunshot wound. His wound was serious but not life-threatening.
Police spoke with the resident of the home and “later determined the injured man was intoxicated and had mistaken the residence for the home of an acquaintance who lives next door.”
KOTATV reported that criminal charges against the alleged intruder “are pending,” but the homeowner faces no charges for acting in self-defense.

The drunk should be thanking whatever Gods he worships that he’s still alive, and not laying cold on a morgue slab. Next he needs to sober up and stay that way. That accidental B&E could have gone so wrong for both the drunk and the homeowner.
(can you imagine the guilt of the homeowner if he had killed his neighbor over a drunk incident? I shudder)
I don’t know of anyone who thinks entering a “friend’s” house via a window in the middle of the night is a good idea. Darn lucky to still be sucking wind.
I’ve done my share of stupid shit while soaking drunk, but climbing into the wrong house was not one of those.
